IMHO Have your electric sockets at an easy reach. Mine are all at floor level and I could no longer get down to switch things off at the wall. (and I have to admit there was often too much stuff in the way!) I have resorted to using a remote conrolled extension lead fixed on the side of a cuboard. Take your time - don't rush the planning of your room - you want to enjoy using it right from the start.

A great book with lots of ideas is "Creating Your Perfect Quilting Space" by Lois L. Hallock.

hard surface floor, lots and lots of lighting, outlets at counter/table height, a sitting, planning table area, small dorm frig, single-cup coffee pot, several waste baskets, cable tv hook-up, enclosed (like a closet) storage for your fabric and shelves, shelves, shelves, and finally, a nearby bathroom.

The only thing I would be certain to do is leave out Carpet. Its much easier to clean tile or laminate. Those threads are awful in carpet, and keep the color of the walls light

Make sure you have a sink with plumbing and lots of shelves.

I found 2 kitchen cabinets that were a lower height than the higher cabinets at a thriftshop for $10 each, also found a door for $5, covered the door with vinyl ($15). I have lots of storage & room for machines & computer. The cutting table I got from another thrift shop years ago for $25. I recycle wherever I can, used dressers & shelving for $10, whatever I could find. Anyway, here's some pics of the cabinets & door...the cabinet on the left right is moved in some, makes it very sturdy, I wouldn't want my machines crashing!

A comfy place to sit and hand sew and a nice music source.

Make sure your cabinets are built-in, and as far as lighting goes, just make sure there is no glare. Hmmmm I like carpet too, but my chair has wheels so better for me if no carpet. My cutting table is made with six cabinets under them for storage, the top is a solid door bought in clearance section from hardware store, I refinished it and trimmed it, fits two cuttingmats that are size 36x30 each. I love it. Anyway have fun and make it your own personnal space.

Put in as many large windows as you can for the design you're going for if it works for your space. I personally love windows and that natural light is wonderful.

Good daylight and plenty of electricity points or whatever they're called
