My goals this year are to decrease UFO's and not buy fabric that just adds to my stash. So here goes. I'll LA a quilt that's been in that stage for several years. Even the back is ready. When that's finished I'll re-assess.

zozee 12-29-2017 08:41 PM

I'm in. Been making Churn Dash blocks for the swap, so will continue with that.

I tidied my sewing/guest room (for my sister, who sadly had to cancel her trip here) . But it needs a good vacuuming and dusting, including dealing with dust under the bed.

Too dang cold to want to go anywhere, but if I do, it'll be the quilt shop, to spend my gift card from hubby!

sewbizgirl 12-29-2017 09:45 PM

I'll be hanging with you all, too. I'm another BHMQ-er, but I'm caught up. I have a couple of charity tops I need to quilt, and I'm also prepping fabric for the Boom swap. Who knows what else I might get into. I will not be venturing out into the cold... and we are supposed to get snow on Sunday. Planning to stay home and inside for days, so I will be quilting!

cannyquilter 12-30-2017 02:07 AM

I'm in. Before I begin to think of sewing anything I need to sort my sewing room, can barely get to the sewing machine. So tidy up, clean room and machine. I have some blocks made for a small (pram) size baby quilt which I'm planning to complete this weekend.

jmoore 12-30-2017 04:31 AM

I will be putting a binding on the quilt I just longarmed on Thursday and then on to Clue 6 of BH’s mystery.

kyquiltlover1942 12-30-2017 04:38 AM

I am hoping to finish the blocks for my queen size quilt today. Tomorrow, I hope to start sewing them together.

ka9sdn 12-30-2017 04:50 AM

Well I started yesterday and so far have cleared off all the stuff stacked on my big ironing board. Now today after shoveling out to my studio, if I get that done, I will finish off a couple of started blocks. After that I want to clean the keyboard for my computer (it is all part of my sewing studio). Then I think I will start getting a quilt assembled and pinned to my LA and get it going. I will be lucky to get that much done!!!!

Yesterday I went an hour and a half away to pick up my DGD big-girl-bed quilt from the LA. In the afternoon I did the binding. Then on to the hand finish and wash. Here it is laid out sideways on a king bed. My DDIL picked out the pattern and provided the batiks to make it a rainbow quilt (red-violet). She envisions DGD using it for all of her childhood and taking it with her to college. Today I hope to do the cutting for the merrymayhem NYD quilt along.

A while back I cut up all of my fat quarters (over 400) into charm packs. Now I'm turning those into half square triangles because there are over 25 different blocks that can be made using them. I've already made a beautiful table runner out of some of the blues and creams for my mothers French Provencal desk I'm going to redo in the spring. Today I'll work on a runner for the top of the cedar chest. From there a quilt for one of the beds. Always something to keep me busy.

tscweaves 12-30-2017 06:05 AM

Bonnie revealed clue #7 this morning. From what I read, we might be getting one a day now. Sew the geese together, brown on the bottom. Now I am torn, do I do the geese or work on curtains? Of course sitting in the recliner with coffee, online, I am not getting anything done. LOL

luvstoquilt 12-30-2017 06:12 AM

I will work on a flannel Tree of Life. I got it cut out before Christmas so I am good to go. Also working on an appliqué in the evenings.

stichinluvr 12-30-2017 06:21 AM

I will do the Merry Mayhem's mystery quilt Monday. Also the starry night BOM starts Monday. I need to finish 3 blocks and set a quilt together also. And my space is in desperate need of cleaning and tidying. Happy New Year everyone. Can't wait to see what next year brings.

this is a super quilt!

Macybaby 12-30-2017 07:38 AM

Chasezzz - love that quilt!

Yesterday I got my Mom's UFO quilt ready for backing and to go out to the LA shed (with about 11 others). My mom had several strips of muslin ripped and it was the right length for another border. I have enough of the tan print for binding. I think it looks a lot nicer with the muslin border.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pseg4ufmw6.jpg

I have the extra blocks put together, but have not decided on extra borders yet. I think I know why my Mom left them off, some were odd sizes and mostly duplicates of what was already in the quilt. They are all together now, so they won't be orphans any longer.

Here is the stack of quilts that need binding. Nothing really large in this pile.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psewcqoguz.jpg

This morning I grabbed the one I figured would be the most work and got the binding on. This one isn't the largest, but the fabric is heavy glitter and the batting is high loft.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psqpj2qr09.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pskefoj3y1.jpg

My favorite is the butterflies I added to make it different. About 2/3rds of the blocks have them.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psjr4fl8jo.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psrelstojc.jpg

Then I trimmed up some of my BH Mystery blocks. I'm still catching up with clue 5 and have cut the coral for clue 6. I want to spend signifiant time putting on bindings, but will take a break between them to work on the mystery.

kristakz 12-30-2017 07:48 AM

Last night was my weekly sewing get-together with my Bonnie Hunter group. Got step 6 all finished, so I am all up to date.

My weekend plans changed when Bonnie released clue #7 this morning. So, that comes first. After that, I want to finish my ruler bag. I made one last week, and decided I need a slimmed down version for day retreats (the big one holds every single ruler I own plus the cutting mat I travel with). Then maybe I'll dig out that UFO list I made and try to start making a dent in it.

Rebecca_S 12-30-2017 07:51 AM

I'm trying to get some scrappy blocks put together, to get them off the design wall so the sewing room can turn into a dining room for NYE. Not much sewing otherwise, will be cleaning and cooking this weekend.

sewbizgirl 12-30-2017 07:52 AM

Looks like I'll be working on BH stuff after all, now that she's come out with a clue a day til the reveal. I think she's really helping us out, so there isn't so much to do at the reveal.

Chasezzz, your rainbow quilt is spectacular!

Cathy, you are so prolific. Love the quilting you did on that gold one... super gorgeous.

Boston1954 12-30-2017 08:06 AM

Macybaby, you sure are getting a lot done. I just love the one with the butterflies. That is a lot of work. Hope you are keeping that one for yourself.

Wow, what wonderful projects!

I gave my self a little Christmas gift, it is a double holed heddle and shuttle for doing pick-up work on bands. I made a little quilted bag to hold it and to keep it protected. You can hardly see the quilting, I was playing with rulers on my Featherweight with a walking foot. It was made from pieces of fabric and batting from other items. I am seeing the usefulness of having a stash:-)

I also finished up BH clue #7 - 100 double geese are flying into the quilt box.

'The best laid plans'... no quilting will not get done. Unexpected company for the long weekend.

eastslopequilter 12-30-2017 09:10 AM

A lady from church was going to throw away 48 cross stitched blocks. She gave them to me. I used half of the blocks and made her a quilt. There were 24 Sunbonnet Sue blocks, so I made a twin-sized quilt to be raffled at church and I am quilting the last of the Sunbonnet Sue blocks so it is out of my sewing room.

sewbizgirl 12-30-2017 09:22 AM

tscweaves, the header and shuttle sure are beautiful. They must be hand made. Isn't it nice to work with beautiful tools?

eastslopequilter, I belong to a charity quilting group and we are always getting donations from other groups in the state that include lots of orphan blocks and UFOs. It's so tempting, especially when they are pretty, to take these home and make something of them for charity. But you can get so bogged down, can't you? I hope to resist more in 2018 than I did in 2017. :D

Chasezzz 12-30-2017 09:23 AM

Thanks for the kind words about the rainbow quilt. Took it to DGD this morning and she loved it.

Finished steps 1 and 2 for merrymayhem this morning. Now thinking to start a pp project for an upcoming swap.

On December 20th this was a bunch of separate blocks. Now the top is done. This will be a present for Jim next December. 46 x 69. It will be hand quilted.

Teen 12-30-2017 09:57 AM

Chasezzz....that quilt is awesome. Beautiful work.

Boston...way to go....looks wonderful..

OK..so I cleaned my sewing room and cleaned my sewing machine. I'm ready after getting a bit delayed this morning.
time to work I on sandwiching my patriotic quilt...

tscweaves 12-30-2017 10:08 AM

Sewbiz - Yes, the heddle and shuttle were custom made. The heddle is ash and the shuttle is plum. I love working with fine wood tools, I really believe that is partly why I enjoy weaving so. I am able to create lovely cloth using spectacular wood tools. Years ago I collected different things and those collections were nothing but dust catchers. Now I collect fiber tools made from fine woods and I get to use them everyday. It is not cheap to go that route, but oh so worth it:-)

Boston - that is a great top! It makes me happy just looking at it:D

Wow, spectacular work everybody! I managed to finish off the baby quilt binding last night. I've been doing that day course from String and Story so far this morning.

Macybaby 12-30-2017 11:13 AM

Here is #2 bound. I've got one more about this size and then they start getting smaller. Time to go work in the mystery for a while. Interesting how the uneven surface of the bed makes the maze look.

Wonderful completions everyone. Beautiful........well, this bad boy is ready for the quilter. Backing and batting done. Good thing cuz I didn't realize I was end of batting roll so I need to order another roll. I was going to quilt myself but it is a panel quilt and I didn't want to mess up. I'm gonna cut my next quilt out now....

sewbizgirl 12-30-2017 12:05 PM

Love all the pics, everyone. Love every quilt, finished or unfinished. Nice work being shown.

QuiltnNan.....love the colors....I'm going to have to try that pattern with some scraps. You are rocking it this week with your generous gifts to cancer center. Very cool..

Next quilt top cut-out...looks likes I'll have some remaining yardage to do a kick-butt border...or so I hope..as much as I want to start sewing on this, I'm going to work on my swap blocks... Just 2 more sets for the swap to go...

Macybaby 12-30-2017 01:57 PM

one more bound and ready for the wash! I swear this one had 6 sides!

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psxedtg7bu.jpg

The center pattern is called "Oh My Gosh!" I came up with the borders as I really didn't want to make any more of those small blocks but wanted a bigger quilt.

I ended up with a lot of ombre scraps after doing another quilt (it's in the pile to bind also) and thought this would be a good pattern to use them up. One way to get a lot of different colors without a lot of different fabrics.

Teen 12-30-2017 02:11 PM

Gorgeous, Macbaby!!! You sound like me....I typically make a second quilt with the scraps for charity immediately following the 1st quilt. I'm pretty sick of the fabric by that point...lol!

this quilt is stunning....love the variegated binding you did...great scrap buster idea..

Raggiemom 12-30-2017 02:18 PM

Wow, I can't believe how much is getting done this weekend! I finished quilting the lone star today and made several bindings and pieced a couple backings. Plus made chocolate chip cookies :) Tomorrow afternoon after church I hope to finish a couple more of the children's charity quilts. I'm headed upstairs to put away a few things in the studio then it's movie time. We're going to watch Arrival tonight.

Dedemac 12-30-2017 02:59 PM

Great work everyone love the pics. Have the right half of the table runner finished starting on the left. Almost time to start jambalaya for dinner. Will try to post a picture when finished. Everyone stay warm and safe this weekend.

Teen 12-30-2017 03:17 PM

Finished a swap block for Summertime Swap..... Now just need to make 3 more....gotta cook din din...Just found out that our Christmas with DH family has been rescheduled (since we were sick we had to postpone) for New Years Day....which means I'll be baking for my treat tray tomorrow and with family Monday. Probably not much more sewing will get done so I'll content myself with organizing for Baltimore Album quilt. I just read the pattern and it looks like I'll be heading down to Rosie's Quilt Cubbard in San Diego in January to buy 20 yards of fabric (without backing)... Yikes!

Cheesehead 12-30-2017 04:02 PM

Macybaby, love the maze quilt, was it hard to do? My DIL requested one and I would like to make her one. I noticed the quilting design you chose for that quilt too, perfect choice!

Thank you for mentioning that Part 2 was available.... hmmm.... instructions were wrong on Part 1 ....ugh, hope everything else is right. I had a frustrating day with the String & Story FMQ free class, it was so frustrating having to scroll through kazillion posts to find anything on the FB site.
Will look through my mystery stuff now to see what needs to be done.
