Yesterday, I sorted 2 boxes of inspiration. Found some recipes I'd like to try.
Those Rolo caramels sound fantastic. |

A couple photos of my progress this weekend. Finished a few of clue 8 for Bonnie's mystery.
And got my ruler bag (version 2) to the binding stage. I'm not done yet! More Bonnie Hunter to blocks to make, and I'll settle in with the binding on the bag in time for the ball drop tonight. |
I forgot about this weekend. On Friday I hit my quilt shop for their year end sale. I cut a lot of my Christmas fabric into squares. I pressed some more fabric but didn't cut it. Going out in a while to a friend's house for New Year's Eve but no place to go tomorrow so I think I will start some sewing.
Nice finished projects from everyone. |
Feline Fanatic, getting kudos from you is like "wow" as you are my LA hero!
I'm learning more about Not selecting a loud backing if I plan on doing more interesting quilting. And I am looking forward to doing some interesting quilting on the Flower Basket quilt. The Applique quilt is Affairs of the Heart. I did two machine applique sets of 36, and have twelve hand applique blocks I've not figured out what to do with yet. I know for sure I don't want to do any more hand applique, but want to do something extra special to go with them. I may opt for solid blocks and just do quilting in them, I'm starting to get more confidence I can do a decent job on something like that. Maybe after I get the next group of 15 tops quilted. |
Theresa, your drapes are beautiful!
sewbizgirl, hope the ice storm wasn't too terrible and that you didn't lose power. I'm so happy--I finished all of the Kids Komforts quilts. They're all bound and quilted and ready for the February meeting. The last church quilt is sandwiched and ready to be finished tomorrow morning. Then I will prep blocks for the 2017 BOMs that I'm a little behind on. I'm headed upstairs now to do my bible study lesson for Tuesday's class. That way I don't have to remember it tomorrow! Happy New Year! |
Wow, some of you ladies are really making good of this cold weather and I am loving the pictures that you are sharing. I know that I would produce a shot or two but, I really didn't get that much completed. Not feeling that productive. I'll work on my queen size quilt again in the morning before I go and pick my adult grandson. I made a date with him to go to the movies. Actually I'm his custodial care giver. That's not a quilting story so I won't get into it now.
Feline Fanatic, I am loving that HST pattern, do you mind or can you share the link for the pattern, please. I am in need a pattern to complete a quilt for my Grand son-in-law's graduations present for the spring. Everyone keep up the beautiful work and I'll read you tomorrow. Cherry |
Two more bound. I had one done right after lunch, but wanted to wait to show them together, since they have the same center panel.
Here is one with the panel as bought. I "fractured" the orange flower fabric on the border. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psefii9cgx.jpg And this one the panel is "fractured" it's actually four panels cut and sewn back together. Probably was not the best choice for this method, but I got a deal on the panels so figured - why not? http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psorjkvu7f.jpg This is the back of the second one. Notice the different fabric at the bottom? I miss -figured when I pieced the back and ended up short on the LA. At least I remembered a video I watched that showed how to add on without taking it off the frame, and that worked very well. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pspkyfostl.jpg I've got four more to bind (two are quite small). I'll leave them for tomorrow. |
Today I worked on pining several steps on the BHMQ. Trying to get together enough pieces to complete 4 blocks. I have at least 4-6 hours of sewing before i’m Caught up with steps 1-6. I’m trying to combine some of the steps. I have not had time to complete any of my other projects. I’m hoping she reveals tomorrow so I can enjoy the process.
My other project tomorrow is too print out merry mayhem’s NYD mystery clue and find fabric to make the project. I’m enjoying everyone’s progress so far. I’ll post pics of 4 blocks tomorrow. That’s #1 on my list tomorrow. I’ll get up early and work on them. I’m envious of California’s weather. We are in the single digits for high temp, current temp -3f and -10f for low temp tonight. Great weather for watching tv, and sewing/quilting. Happy New Years everyone! |

This morning I pieced one of the BH blocks and was quite happy to have it come out to size. My blocks tend to come out small so this was great.
I went back to working on finishing the curtains, baked a chocolate cake, went to a family New Years Eve gathering. We ring in New Years at 5:00pm which is midnight in Italy. It gets everyone either home early or have time for other celebrating. I came home and met one of my 2017 - my curtains are finished and hanging in my guest room. in this next picture you can see the corner of my 2nd quilt - a Storm at Sea on point wall hanging:-) Happy New year to all! |
Theresa, all of your work is impressive. Still can't believe how advanced you are for being such a relative newbie quilter.

If you can stand one more pic of the Bonnie Hunter Mystery, here is what I spent the day putting together:

I did not realize this was the week-end for sewing on the board, but I have been sewing. Getting ready to start the 1718 quilt today. Decided it was a good year to give it a go, 2018. Using Couture cottons by Michael Miller. Will start today.
|
I'm ready to get one more day in sewing before it's time to get back to work. At least it's one more short week!
It got so cold last night, DH and I were tossing hot water in the air and watching it crystallize. I'm hoping today will be the coldest day of the year! The nearest town measured -23F and we normally get a bit colder. Outdoor digital thermometer errors out at -19.9 and it's still showing offline. I did some serious work on the BH Mystery last night, got a good start on the last clue. I'm looking forward to getting that one ready for quilting - so I can get on to my next project! |
Theresa, very interesting celebrating New Years at the time of the old country. Your curtains are wonderful, very drapeable.

Marcia I would like to thank everyone for their kind comments on my curtains. I know they are not quilted, but I was happy to share with other sewists. Now back to the Bonnie Hunter mystery which is no longer mysterious :) |
Wonderful projects everyone! Love looking at all the pictures Theresa can I have your guest bedroom! So restful and welcoming. Hope everyone had a safe New Year.
I didn't do the MQ but did follow and save the instructions. Her quilts are nice but just not my cup of tea. Didn't know a bought any other MQ's, many have to look for them when I have the computer. I have been hand sewing but it's getting time to start cleaning up to head home. Should be able to stitch in the car so might get the block I'm working on finished today. Will check back when I get to civilization. |

Started the new year sewing together two more donation tops. Now all 5 need to be prepped for quilting. I'd love to deliver them later this week. First, however, I cleaned the machine and put on the ruler foot in preparation for the start of the ruler work course posted in the links forum by Pagzz... this is a link to the first class https://blog.patsythompsondesigns.co.../archives/8334

two more bound - only two left. I'm making good progress on the BH Mystery too.
This was my "practice" Affairs of the Heart blocks - to see if I could do the machine embroider. They turned out nice enough I went ahead and did the whole set of 36. Then I used it to practice the outline quilting before doing the larger one. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psodmiscor.jpg This is the ombre quilt I made that resulted in a large pile of scraps - that got put into the OMG quilt. Lots and lots and lots of 1" squares (cut). I felt like I was sewing confetti with that one. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psvwm14a72.jpg |

Finished the top for the Merry Mayhem Mystery Quilt baby today. Still needs borders. It was fun! Then I promptly dropped it near the front door and got stains on some of the white blocks. Hope they come out.

macybaby, your rose quilting is beautiful.
I finished all the quilts I wanted to get done this weekend; I'm so happy! I'm all set for my quilting group tomorrow afternoon. I'm taking a couple of the 2017 BOMs to piece the tops together. Now I need to do a little cleanup in the sewing room! :) Thanks for quilting with me this weekend. I have truly enjoyed reading about your experiences and seeing pictures of what you've been working on. See you back here in a few weeks. |
I didn't get any sewing done but I did spend some time cutting squares. I am planning 2 Christmas quilts. One using 9 patches and one using 4 patches. Both will use 2.5 inch squares. I think I have cut out about 1500 squares so it is a start. I have some more cutting to do but I think I am ready to start sewing.
Good work for all those who have finished something this weekend. I may not be able to join you for the next weekend because I will be coming home from vacation that Saturday. |

Watson, I did the baby size too. I added side borders but think the proportion is okay now without top and bottom ones. Also did a floating square in square flimsy for a charitable quilting group I lead that meets tomorrow. All the finishes are great...love the LA work but never see myself doing it.

Love those Merry Mayhem quilts. So glad I downloaded the clues for later!
I have really enjoyed seeing all the photos of all the beautiful pieces. Thanks to everyone who shared this weekend. Happy 2018 to you all! |
here are the last two quilts bound - Yea! I have no unbound quilts at this point (though I've got plenty of unquilted ones).
This one is based on a paper pieced block by Pat Bono, but I converted it regular piecing. At one point I had a whole bunch of these. Made one full size quilt for a friend, and now this little one for another friend. I still have enough for a quilt to keep. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psl7o3tfnu.jpg And the last one - I think this is my favorite of the bunch. It started out as the medallion for the 365 block quilt. But after I got it done, realized it was too "matchy" for my scrappy quilt. So I set it aside and made another for that quilt. However I really liked the colors, so picked out several of the 3" and 6" blocks that were star like and made a bunch to go with it. The center is one of the alternate corner blocks for that quilt - one I did not use but I wanted to make it so here it is. I took the original center medallion apart and reused the components. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psd9crrocz.jpg |

I do like Merry Mayhem's design this year. I was not going to do it, but I was at loose ends this afternoon while the longarm quilted a couple of charity quilts. So, I pulled some fabric, and here's my top (baby quilt size - need to figure out how to grow it to 50x70 for donation). Other than that, I'm still working on assembling bits of my Bonnie Hunter mystery.

Wow, Cathy, you are always so busy! Do you machine bond your quilts?
|
My stepson had a baby a couple of weeks ago. I looked at fabric. I drew a quick idea. I cut fabric & Made 10 nine patch A blocks. 3" squares, 9" blocks. It will be alternating 9P, in baby toy & stacking block fabric. 36"x45"
|
Cathy, those last two are gorgeous! The cat one I love... Do you know if that pattern is still available? I know alot of Pam Bono's stuff was lost after her death. Such a shame.
Krista, love the zig zag. What a great design for a baby quilt. Yup, I'm going to have to make a couple of those. |

Happy New Years, everyone. I didn't get to sew most of today since we celebrated Christmas with DH family. Got home about 3pm and made this cute accent pillow for DH aunt who is coming over tomorrow. Didn't have time to do anything more elaborate...she'll like it....her living room is blue...
Rose parade was awesome....I'm an hour away from parade and have gone many times. It's true...today was 78 degrees and absolutely gorgeous in Southern California. One of the floats near the end was of the Mission Inn in Riverside, which is my town. That was exciting to see.... Anywhooo...hope those in chilly states stay warm and safe... |
I enjoy seeing everyone's projects - so much sewing happening! I managed to get 10 of my Ringo Lake blocks sewn together, just taking my time, squaring units before and after - I find it very relaxing. Now back to my every day routine - babysitting grandkids... unfortunately the 2 I will have today have bad colds so not as much fun as usual.
