Obsessed with Missouri Star Quilt Company

I have heard of this company but I guess I didn't pay it much attention. I am obsessed with watching their videos on youtube and have learned some great techniques. I also love their daily deals on their website. Can anyone explain the quilters cash? I'm not exactly sure how it works.

Does anyone else feel the same about the Missouri Star Quilt Company?

ManiacQuilter2 05-19-2014 04:16 AM

Sorry, I am not on the bandwagon. I have an older computer and I have to be careful where I go. I saw her for the first time on an older episode of F&P and she is certainly FULL of enthusiasm. Guess it must be a generational thing. I learned to quilt from classes held in a LQS with one on one experience with a quilt teacher.

winia 05-19-2014 04:32 AM

I love her videos also and the daily deals. I wouldn't get to the level of obsession, but I do love her quilts and the way she simplifies many things. As far as the quilters' cash, it is credits that is actually money that you can apply to your next purchase. If you have fifty credits, the next time you buy a daily deal, for instance, that costs $2.50, you can apply the fifty credits to the $2.50, and it will only cost you $2. I also subscribe to her new magazine BLOCK, and it is great having many of her online patterns in booklet form. I love her videos, but I'm from the old school (age probably) that prefers something in booklet form when I'm making it.

I'm obsessed with them too!!! From their MB's, to their tutorials and patterns, to their shop... I'm hooked!! I've watched Jenny's videos over and over, and even signed up to take her Craftsy Classes. I've learned so much from watching her... I feel like I can tackle anything :)

That being said.... I've placed two (large) orders with them and found they have excellent customer service. I've got another (extra large) order sitting in my cart for some projects for Christmas. Just love it there!

Oh, the Quilter's Cash is a rewards program they have. You earn 3% of your purchase price (not including shipping/tax) in points. You keep accumulating points and when you're ready to spend, each point is worth $0.01 (so 501 points = $5.01 discount). Hope that makes sense :)

making an exploding block quilt now...love the videos...next the disappearing pin wheel LOL

I love watching Jenny's videos, and I enjoy the "daily deal". Sometimes I even buy it. I subscribe to the new magazine also. Her enthusiasm is contagious.

I order from MSQ all the time. The prices are good and shipping is low. Jenny's videos are fun to watch. I can stream online video to my tv so I can sew and watch in my sewing room.

Tartan 05-19-2014 05:47 AM

I have the app on my iPad so I can see what new videos are available. Today I believe it's a Tumbler Purse. Jenny rocks!!

Their forum is also interesting to follow. Lots of questions asked and answered, general support given and tons of pictures in the show and tell section. I check the forum at least twice a day....huh....wonder if this contributes to not getting enough done :-)

mommysewist 05-19-2014 06:31 AM

I just received my first order from there, and I love them already! Great customer service, seems like good people! Love that and the daily deal and five dollar shipping.

ligia 05-19-2014 07:27 AM

Nothing obsesses me ! ;)

BETTY62 05-19-2014 08:12 AM

Who could not love Jennie and her crew. I was hooked from the first tutorial I saw.

wolph33 05-19-2014 08:13 AM

I love watching her also-she is a great teacher

SusanSusan33 05-19-2014 08:38 AM

MSQC is wonderful and Jenny is a hoot- I love her YT and Craftsy videos!! The store also has GREAT customer service. I wanted to order a daily deal a while back, but was getting ready to go out of town. I called them, ordered with them over the phone and they held the order for a week so it didn't get delivered while I was away. I had a neighbor boy getting my mail, but I didn't want him to have to fuss with a big package...

Their forum is very informative and fun.

I never get obsessed with how other people create their quilts, not even famous people, and especially not famous commercial people. I'm too consumed with how I create my own quilts and developing my own individual quilting voice. :)

Tartan - I am looking for that app on my iPad and can't find it. What is it called? Thanks.

I have the same problem.

I love Jenny and we are buddies. Well, not personally, but I watch her so much that I feel she is an old friend. Love her new "magazine" Block. It is more like a book and at 5.99, cheaper than a book.

this is my exploding block. still need to get borders on it and quilted but I love msqc.

Treegal 05-20-2014 03:09 AM

A local guild just had her visit and demo. It was wonderful ! Funny stories, funny and obviously supportive husband came with her to hold up the quilts. I would happily go again and highly recommend having her do a session . Two hours that just flew by

mamab113 05-20-2014 03:20 AM

I love the videos! I've just finished the disappearing pinwheel and just pieced the lattice quilt. The exploding block is next. She makes everything so easy!!

misschris 05-20-2014 03:44 AM

I will be quilting two years in September. When I learned to sew many years ago I took classes which was all that was available at that time. These videos are absolutely a gift. They are free and can be bookmarked and referred to. I use them as a visual. I can pause at each step and replay as many times as I need to in order to master the technique. If not for Jenny I would not be as far as I am today. Don't mind the daily deals either.

cdr1182 05-20-2014 04:20 AM

I had the pleasure of going to a 3 day class given by Jenny Doan in Baker ,FL. She is ever nicer and funnier in person. She told a bunch of stories and showed her techniques with samples of her quilts. Her husband was present and also very nice. She is really a very humble , down to earth person. She autographed posters for us and was very approachable. If you ever have the chance to see her I would highly recommend it.

mirish2 05-20-2014 04:25 AM

I love her simplified approach to sewing. I grew up in Southern Iowa, not far from Hamilton, Missouri. When I go "home" this summer, I plan to make a "pilgrimage" to the store.

lclang 05-20-2014 04:26 AM

I made the heart quilt and the flower quilt and they were very easy and turned out fantastic. Her videos are wonderful. Also love the magazine.

Grannyh67 05-20-2014 04:26 AM

I order from MSQC and love it, I also watch Her videos, I think She is so sweet. I would love to go there one day and meet Her in person. I might just put that on my bucket list, lol.....She had so many good ideas. I get their newsletter and always enjoy it.

duckydo 05-20-2014 04:45 AM

Girl MSQC is kickin it! I am also obsessed with MSQC as is my girlfriend... Besides all of the neat suff she does most of the folks she employees are family. She has put the little town of Hamilton MO on the map.. The way the quilters cash works is if you are logged in when you order something you get points for however much you spend, you can let it build up or cash it in towards a order any time. It is not actually cash back.

I did the exploding block up to a 45" size. I just kept repeating the process until my last square was as large as I could go. Then put two borders around it, quilted and bound. Made three quilt tops in less than three hours! Great for fast and easy!

lindaschipper 05-20-2014 05:12 AM

Each generation has a new quilting "queen" and I believe that Jenny is the new "queen". She's fun to watch, informative, inventive and is a great saleswoman! I've ordered many of the daily deals and love her charm packs that are offered. Hope I can visit Hamilton, MO his summer to visit the Missouri Star Quilt Company in person, Go Jenny!!

luvrazz 05-20-2014 06:44 AM

I think she is great... I don't think she will ever make an award winning quilt however, she is so down to earth and she caters to us that will also never be award winning.

Purl 05-20-2014 06:48 AM

Ahhhh -but you should visit their store! We go to the Texas Hill Country from Wisconsin every winter and pass about 12 miles from Hamilton, MO. Of course my wonderful husband packs his Kindle and turns right off the highway, prepared to sit a spell. We have done this for years and it is amazing how quilting can revitalize a small town! Go check it out if you get a chance - they would love to meet you!

Eleanor Burns has an inspiring story, too. Had she had today's internet when she started, I suspect her trajectory would have been very similar. She had to reach audiences one at a time instead, which must have been a lot harder.

Anyone who can make quilting more popular and accessible is worth cheering for, I think.

hugs,
charlotte

I just went to a trunk show and workshop with her down here in Florida. She was wonderful, exactly like she is in her videos. Very generous with her time. I check out her new videos every Friday.

meyert 05-20-2014 09:14 AM

I love the videos and the MSQC definitely has an inspiring story. I have learned a lot from watching Jenny's videos... and the many other videos on You Tube. I like to support MSQC when I can, but I still have to watch my money so shop around for the better deals. I can see myself making a run to Hamilton, MO just for a visit and a road trip though :D

tlpa 05-20-2014 09:42 AM

Not quite obsessed, but love the videos, and the story behind them. I haven't yet ordered from them, and didn't know they had a forum, so will have to check it out.

maryellen2u 05-20-2014 12:04 PM

I love her too! I think it is because she is so "real". I like the idea that it is a family venture and they've pulled themselves up and are now employing everyone in their little town. It's such a great All American story. She is not packaged and slick like some quilting gurus. I saw her and her husband in person when they were in Portland at some quilt event. (Free to!) They were so cute and down home. I love the videos but don't often buy the "daily deal" because there's not much I need. Sometimes her enthusiasm is priceless and gets me enthused and moving again! Thanks to Jenny and her family. Count me as a member of the fan club!

fivepaws 05-20-2014 02:17 PM

I can not imagine anyone not being in love with Jenny. They are missing so much. Miss Personality plus. Her videos are fantastic and I must say her daily deals are to die for. Of course shipping charges are rather high. I have saved almost all of her videos and they are my first go-to.

sewingsuz 05-20-2014 02:57 PM

I am in the same fan club. I like the deals and every time I really like it for a ruler they are sold out. I guess I have to get on her earlier.

wanda lou 05-20-2014 03:18 PM

I like the MSQC an make purchases often, I do like the quilters cash it's just a little bonus you can use at the check out. I
