I am a new quilter and I feel totally obsessed. I take my sewing machine camping, I read this board for hours on end. I think about quilting all of the time. I search patterns and fabric and quilts on the internet. I want to go shopping just so I will have a "stash". Will this go away? Will it only get worse? Do I need help?

mtnative 05-30-2011 07:10 AM

Obsession or addiction? LOL! I haven't heard of a 12-step program yet. Good luck! Enjoy the ride so to speak.

PaperPrincess 05-30-2011 07:14 AM

No, sorry it won't go away. It's a chronic disease that you will need to learn to manage.

Monika 05-30-2011 07:15 AM

Welcome to the world of quilting and to the board! If you are lucky.....the obsession will not go away...

alikat110 05-30-2011 07:22 AM

There is no cure!

dellareya 05-30-2011 07:45 AM

I think you found your support group here for your obsession.

slstitcher 05-30-2011 07:46 AM

Just wait till you start thinking about all this when you wake up in the middle of the night.

blueangel 05-30-2011 07:50 AM

Welcome to the board. No there isn't a cure.

quiltyfeelings 05-30-2011 07:52 AM

Nope. No cure and no research being done....except online and local fabric shops to find the best bargains!! The first step is admitting there is a "problem"....Go ahead...introduce yourself and admit it. For example, "My name is Laura, and I'm a quiltaholic..."

redturtle 05-30-2011 07:56 AM

http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-basic/bye.gif and http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/s...ic/welcome.gif from virginia

you have definitely caught the bug for which there is no known cure...lol

MinnieKat 05-30-2011 08:20 AM

It won't go away .... it'll just get worse! :) But that's not a bad thing.

I don't think of this place as a support group...it's more like a "Thelma & Louise" group! LOL

julia58 05-30-2011 08:29 AM

I don't think it will ever go away. It is my therapy. And I'm so glad I have it. And so glad this board is here. There are so many good people here.

hello, my name is Thelma [ really] i don't quilt much, but i read everything on here every day, and love to look at fabric and buy;, i have a small stash,

DebQuilter50 05-30-2011 09:11 AM

I feel much better now thanks to all of your replies. It sounds like I am normal - in this group anyway!

nonymac 05-30-2011 09:24 AM

I don't think it will go away - I'm a new quilter and I do the same as you. I do have a small stash (compared to others) from crafting over the years. Now - I'm trying to get bills paid of so when I retire in a few years I won't have a lot of bills and can spend a little more on my stash.

darlin1942 05-30-2011 09:28 AM

It is well known cure for everything in the world. Nerves,
aggitation, kids, husbands. Just go with the flow. Good Luck, happy quilting.

Rainbow 05-30-2011 01:27 PM

Addicted, definitely YES...and look at how many people will be happy to receive the "fruits of your labor" in this addiction... Think of the new and lovely object that will keep appearing in your home for this addiction. Eat a chocolate and enjoy - both yor addiction and, of course, the chocolate.

susie-susie-susie 05-30-2011 04:32 PM

I'm glad to read that I'm not alone. I think it's just getting worse. I don't think there is a cure. Glad to have you in the "group".
Sue

Grandma Peg 05-30-2011 05:25 PM

Welcome from WI. If you find a cure, you'll have to let all of us know. Otherwise just enjoy and know you are not alone.

patski 05-30-2011 05:43 PM

no help, you are just hooked

Stitchit123 05-30-2011 06:29 PM

I don't think theres a cure and if they ever come up with one I've already decided I won't take the shot I'm having to much fun stashing and stitching :D :D

Tweety2911 05-30-2011 06:46 PM

You are so addicted and in the best company of same. Isn't it grand:-)

BrendaK 05-30-2011 06:54 PM

Hi and welcome from CA. I also have an addiction. Be it this board, thinking about the colors for my next project, petting my fabric or just talking about this addiction to another quiltalocholic. But we could have worse adictions. At least this doesn't really hurt anyone else and think of the benefits that other people get from your addiction. Have fun and welcome. BrendaK

Which is what I'm doing now at 2:44am....lol

arizonagirl 05-31-2011 01:48 AM

What's that famous movie quote? Resistance is futile. So asiumalate. (I think we need spell check...lol)

leighway 05-31-2011 03:12 AM

And on a hopeful note, aside from the addiction you have entered a world where you will stare in wonder at what you have created when two pieces of fabric come together and meet with another. You will understand that creativity is actually a facet of God and quilting brings you into a sisterhood that has been working with fabric or skins or felt or whatever it could get it's hands on for hundreds of years. You'll find yourself thinking of others and how they might like what you do and you'll be first in line to offer what you have to a fellow quilter in need. It's a lovely addiction to have. Welcome.

incoming2me 05-31-2011 03:30 AM

If this is an addiction/obsession..
there sure are a lot worse things to focus all that energy on!

Even if you find yourself whipping out your cell phone to take pictures of stones in walkways or extreme close up pictures of Spaceship Earth at Epcot because you think it would make a pretty cool quilt.

P.S. I have never done this. *snicker*

dixiechunk 05-31-2011 03:47 AM

Batten down the hatches and full speed ahead. Sorry, for most of us it only gets worse. Hee hee hee.

star619 05-31-2011 04:01 AM

At least this addiction produces works of art & usefulness. Many addictions are only destructive. (At least that's what I told my deer hunting husband (when he made a grouchy comment). :)

lillybeck 05-31-2011 04:20 AM

Just like a chronic disease huh. Of course if I would spend as much time quilting as I do on this board I could get a lot more done. lol

BeckyL 05-31-2011 04:23 AM

Addiction, wonderful addiction. I even dream about quilts and quilting. lol

sandpat 05-31-2011 04:33 AM

Welcome to the club!! We are all in the same boat as you!

supergma 05-31-2011 04:33 AM

No cure. Just enjoy. Welcome to the board.
