Would I be able to use this fabric for an OBW? My sister gave it to me today.

shequilts 01-18-2011 02:45 PM

It will be beautiful.

quiltstodo 01-18-2011 02:48 PM

I hope so I just bought the same fabric to use for the OBW.

Lindsey 01-18-2011 02:50 PM

if you have enough repeats its a great choice.

erstan947 01-18-2011 02:50 PM

Keep us posted how it works:)

dunster 01-18-2011 02:53 PM

I will be gorgeous, but you need at least 6 repeats. Is it folded over?

nena 01-18-2011 02:56 PM

Quiltstodo, I have been wanting to try one for awhile so here goes. lol.
I took my sister (that has been sick) to Joannes today and she loved this and insisted on getting it for me to try. I got 3 yards, will that be enough?
Thanks everyone for your encouragement.

donnacollierbess 01-18-2011 02:57 PM

What is OBW?????

jemma 01-18-2011 03:00 PM

cant wait to see it done

sidmona 01-18-2011 03:01 PM

OBW = one block wonder

craft phanatic 01-18-2011 03:02 PM

I have a feeling that it will be stunning. Wonderful bold colors! Don't forget to show us pics!

WANNABEE 01-18-2011 03:02 PM

Some one started a OBW with that fabric and posted today - maybe you can find the post and check the repeat

deema 01-18-2011 03:02 PM

That will turn out beautifully, I'm sure! It doesn't look like a huge repeat, 3 yards should be plenty!

Raggiemom 01-18-2011 03:02 PM

It's beautiful fabric.

dunster 01-18-2011 03:02 PM

Yardage isn't the important thing, it's how many repeats. A repeat might be anything from a few inches to 24 inches or more. It looks like your repeat might be about 15-18"??? If it's 18" then you need 6*18", which is 3 yards. If you're just a little shy (because it wasn't cut exactly straight) that can be okay.

Do you know how to measure the repeat? Find a point on the pattern (it's easiest to do this near the selvage) and then measure down to where that same point reappears. That is the length of the repeat.

Ann L 01-18-2011 03:06 PM

I bet it will come out just stunning. Lucky you.

I also got mine at Joann's I think I only got 2 or 2 1/2 yards hope I got enough. I want to try one of the OBW cubed. I just got the book and I thought with that fabric theres so many bright colors to work with for the cubes. Never done one so we'll see how it goes. I bet all of ours will be different since it depends on what you pick as the repeat. Can't wait to see yours.

twixbar 01-18-2011 03:26 PM

Beautiful fabric, will be awesome.

Iluv2quilt 01-18-2011 03:29 PM

Perfect for OBW, and it will be really pretty!

quiltstodo 01-18-2011 03:30 PM

I'll look tonite and let you know what I chose as the repeat. But I think I figured I could get 3 repeats from one yard and I think I picked the brite blue flower but I'll let you know later tonite.

sewingladydi 01-18-2011 03:34 PM

I haven't done one, but that fabric looks like it would be great

I saw that this morning and thought the same thing I was waiting for her to post a pic of the original fabric. I love the way they are coming out and now with 3 of us using it I can't wait to see how different they will all look

hperttula123 01-18-2011 03:50 PM

nena 01-18-2011 07:06 PM

Oh my goodness! I think it is the same fabric. How funny.
We will have to keep up with this to see how everyones turns out.

elsieirene 01-18-2011 07:09 PM

I don't know what OBW means but it is beautiful material.
I love the colors. You can tell I*'m new at quilting.

quiltstodo 01-18-2011 07:24 PM

Just checked and I only got 2 1/2 yards which seems to be more than enough. I chose the large green ( blue) flower. I think the flower is green not sure maybe it's the lighting in our house but even DH can't decide if it's green either. I got the book and I want to try the one " not your grandmothers flower garden". Going to get it started this weekend have to finish my fathers lap quilt first.

OBW is one block wonder. Sort of look like kaleidoscope quilts when they're done. There are some beautiful ones on here.

k3n 01-19-2011 02:20 AM

I have this fabric as well! Gaigai sent it to me. MAybe we should make a list of all those using it and post together, it would be fun to see how different it looks depending on how we stack it and line up the repeats.

plainpat 01-19-2011 03:08 AM

Go for it.....read cutebuns tute, then just have fun.Love your fabric!

It's a 12" repeat so 2 yards is actually enough for the main body. :-D

duckydo 01-19-2011 05:07 AM

One Block Wonder

duckydo 01-19-2011 05:09 AM

I think you need about 6-61/2 yards if memory serves me right. and I think that fabric will make a stunning OBW

quilt3311 01-19-2011 05:18 AM

Send a picture when its done, it should work great.

Jamiestitcher62 01-19-2011 05:25 AM

Does anybody know the name or make of the fabric? I'd like to find some for my son's girlfriend who loves butterflies.
