Came back from a day of shopping, needed to go to wal mart. This one is in albuquerque, NM Checked their fabric dept they have 2.5 isles of fabric bolts. But.................there was no employee in the dept to cut if you wanted. Can't have one without the other.

fratcat 06-14-2011 05:16 PM

I haven't seen any fabric at all at the Walmart here in lafayette, Louisiana., and I certainly do not believe that they would have a fabric cutting department in the future. In order to have that, there would actually have to be store reps who would be around to help with the cutting. That doesn't seem like it will happen anytime soon, they can't even keep cashiers around when they are needed.

I read and heard that Walmart is losing customers because of some of the depts. they had eliminated, one being fabrics and they are bringing them back.

Our Walmart was one of the first to get rid of their fabric department and never did get in the precuts. I was just there last weekend and I don't see any moving of stock to make room for a fabric department. I will be sssoooo disappointed if we don't get it here.

DonnaB 06-14-2011 09:15 PM

Yeah! This will help the ol budget!

Tinabug 06-15-2011 06:31 PM

I'll have to keep an eye on our store

Lorae Radunz 06-15-2011 08:52 PM

I'm so glad! I hope our store is one to get fabric. You should ask the niece if there is a list with what stores will be getting fabric or another source to find this out.

Did you know Walmart will honor JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby coupons? The store clerk said they would. I never thought to ask!

WOW, if a coupon works for their notion wall, that would be the best deal! Hope they start carrying more thread.

They will not have classes. Sorry I am not excited for my small town.

Same thing happened where I live. All 5 LQS closed in 2009, so no classes. I hope the one LQS that just got started back up 8 months ago will not be leaving us; it is a new owner who went out on a limb.

No, they didn't care what we wanted to buy, I agree; as I was one who spoke with both of my store managers, wrote letters, made the phone calls. They didn't listen, until it hit the bottom line; when people stopped coming to get anything. I just didn't feel like going there, since they took out most of the notions, couldn't even get more than a couple of basics like scissors, & velcro. Not all stores are equal either, my mothers store in MI always was terrible, never carried any of the clothing I could buy at my store (better quality), or half the variety. Though I think now they are pretty equal after the big renovation.

I checked out your website, I LOVE your natural fabrics like the bark...will be checking back later to see what else you have.
Best wishes with your shop.

we should all EMAIL corporate & ask for a list of stores w/a full fabric dept. & a list of "coming soon"--that should help them understand how much we follow good news!

redmadder 06-16-2011 03:48 AM

Someone post the email addy and I'll get right on it.

redmadder 06-16-2011 03:50 AM

Maybe if we made the manager here a quilt, would that send the right message? We could call the pattern Bring Back The Fabric. I'll ask my group today. No nuttier than some of the other ideas. Like staking him out over an anthill.

JuneD 06-16-2011 03:56 AM

PLEASE, PLEASE send some of that good news to us!!!! My Walmart hasn't even begun to stock precut fabrics and it's been 3 years since they closed the fabric department!! They increased the scrapbooking department but I can't see scrapbooking as a craft.

In some cases, the store manager had tried his/her best to keep the fabric department in the store.

Lorae Radunz 06-16-2011 04:46 AM

Good idea! Let's all start emailing.

dbright 06-16-2011 05:53 AM

I am am the side of the LQS. When I want a class or a quick "I need help" I will not get that at Walmart. There are many supplies they will not have. Will they fix my machine or let me just come in a visit? Walmart killed the LQS and they have just now got back and thriving. Please do not forget them.

We had a remodel in February of 2009 and are having another one for fabric addition (and a few other changes) in July/August of this year.

I line in the UK. Some years ago Walmart bought our supermarket chain ASDA. We do have a Walmart superstore about 25 miles away, but woe is me.

They, never ever have sold quilting supplies. You are all so lucky. I guess is that quilting is not so big in the UK, although we started doing it way, way back.

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London had a major exhibition: Quilts 1700 - 2010 Hidden Histories. I was very lucky and received a copy of the hard back book that went with the exhibition for my birthday last year.

Our store is remodeling as we speak. They have taken out or fabric dept and replaced it with precuts. Of course this is probably because I got my first sewing machine for christmas and am really getting into sewing. I am really disappointed. The fabric doesn't seem to be any better and it is more expensive. Although we do have a larger precut section than other stores in our area. And I can't go to Joanns anymore cause it was leveled in a tornado last month. Very sadB
