AlwaysQuilting 06-13-2011 05:23 AM

Oh I hope it'll be true at my Walmart too.
(BTW I used to live in Sheff. Lake on Belle Dr. but it was 100 yrs ago, DDs went to Tennyson school..... Small world)

quiltinghere 06-13-2011 05:24 AM

I looked at the package fabric at Walmart and it wasn't half bad.

Like all things purchased at all stores - you have to watch what you're buying.

mosquitosewgirl 06-13-2011 05:26 AM

Very Cool

Wine Woman 06-13-2011 05:29 AM

Thanks for the information! I'll have to check and see if our Walmart has fabric. I'm not sure-hmmmmm another reason to go shopping!

ragqueen03 06-13-2011 05:50 AM

yippee! there is a super walmart 10 minutes away - dh works there so we get a discount!!!! of course it will probably be awhile before it gets to all the super walmarts! but they heard us. personally i did not care for the precuts they had. very limited in colors and patterns.

emsgranny 06-13-2011 06:03 AM

I can only hope they do the same here - we have two super stores and they dont even have the pre-packaged stuff - or if they do its not much. I can only hope lol

irishrose 06-13-2011 06:53 AM

We never lost our fabric, but it has been expanded. Lots of pretty prints. The quality is hit ot miss, but it's another option available. We have never had the precuts.

Yarn or Fabric 06-13-2011 06:57 AM

You are soooo lucky!! I really hope that happens to my store. The prepackaged fabric section is such a kick in the teeth here...
I'm so happy for you though! It does give us hope!!

quiltingaz 06-13-2011 06:59 AM

will wait to see. Our Super WM does not even have prepackaged fab.

gerswin 06-13-2011 08:29 AM

i hope they keep the dept. at my walmart :P

BellaBoo 06-13-2011 09:07 AM

I was in the local Walmart today and there it was, a big space with a cutting table, fabric bolt stands and a notion wall! The fabric hadn't came in yet but it is a big fabric dept where the stationary/office supply dept use to be. I saw a big thread cabinet, McCalls and Simplicity pattern cabinet and a super long notion wall with a big fabric wall on the opposite side. I'm so glad I have a place to go buy the basics. Did you know Walmart will honor JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby coupons? The store clerk said they would. I never thought to ask!

crafty_linda_b 06-13-2011 09:14 AM

The Walmart near me never took their fabrics out but they moved it 3 different times and now it's only about 1/2 the size it used to be and they raised the prices on all the fabrics. They did away with alot of their craft supply items. They did clearance alot of fabrics out for $1 and $2 a yard. crafty_linda_b

Doreen 06-13-2011 09:17 AM

I'll be looking out for the fabric to come to our side of town!

blueangel 06-13-2011 09:43 AM

I've heard they are bringing it back. We didn't loose ours.

CarrieAnne 06-13-2011 02:50 PM

Congrats! Hope ours comes back too!

Kathi Kraftyzales 06-13-2011 03:15 PM

Are you serious? Walmart accepts Joann and Hobby lobby coupons? How about Michael's?? I'll go ask!!!!

cinnya 06-13-2011 03:42 PM

I am a happy camper today.Went to one of our Walmarts and happen to see the store manager.I stopped him and asked if this store would get the fabric back....He said yes, remodel will be in august and soon after they should have it set up. :-D :-D
For any Quilters in SW Oklahoma ,this is the Walmart on Quannah Parker Trailways and 67th.
I don't know about the other on on Sheridan.

What I think is so crazy ,they just remodeled 2 years ago,to take the fabric out.

OneMoreQuilt 06-13-2011 03:44 PM

Woohoo!!

cpfrog 06-13-2011 04:35 PM

Is that the WALMART in Avon or Lorain? I usually do NOT shop at "The Walmarts" but loved the ol' Elyria fabric dept. Either one will be some good competition (I hope) for JoAnn's. YIPPEE!

Its the new one in LOrain on 58

DebLuvsQuiltng 06-13-2011 04:57 PM

I had heard bringing back fabric is dependent upon the viability of the electronics department. Unfortunately our small town electronics department is thriving ... so for one NE Oklahoma Wal-Mart... no fabric return

Leota 06-13-2011 05:03 PM

I so hope they bring it back to the Guthrie Oklahoma store... it's about 18 miles to Hancocks...

featherweight 06-13-2011 05:04 PM

Yes, I just posted earlier that our Walmart in my area has started getting them in. I can't wait until they all arrive.

Stitchit123 06-13-2011 05:09 PM

COOL Have fun shopping I even know where your WM is I just love new stops while traveling

BRenea 06-13-2011 05:57 PM

We never lost our fabric department, but the local store is remodelling and that seems to be when fabric and craft supplies disappear. So far, it looks like they might be expanding! Yeah!

applegramma 06-13-2011 06:17 PM

Last week I was told by an WM assoc in a TX store, that there was a meeting in Bentonville, AR and WM acknowledged it was a mistake to take the fabric depts out of the stores...Well that is a first!!! Yes most stores were remodeled to take out the fabrics and to make room for party and scrapbooking. Don't think those products have taken over as well as Bentonville predicted they would.
Just hope they bring back the great line of Cranston fabrics. Looking forward to it!!!!!
Thanks for the heads up!

twinkie 06-14-2011 02:37 AM

We were told at the Home Office Shareholders meeting two weeks that if your store has fabric they will NOT lose it. They also told us that full bolt fabric would return to 700 stores who lost their fabric by September this year. Yippee!

Wonderful news for you, Happy Dance!!!

Linn 06-14-2011 03:15 AM

I keep hearing that all stores will open their fabric depts. for bolts but our stores in the area still just have th precuts. Hope its nationwide.

Lavada 06-14-2011 03:17 AM

our walmart just opened a super center and we never lost our fabric department

dbright 06-14-2011 03:54 AM

The downside is that I live in a small town and about 2 hours away from a quilt store. When Walmart closed out fabric a quilt store opened up. We are having a wonderful time for miles around going to our local quilt shop. Walmart will kill this shop. It killed the ones when they had fabric. They will not carry all the needs of a quilter. They will not have classes. Sorry I am not excited for my small town.

stitchengramie 06-14-2011 04:21 AM

Does this include the ones in Michigan?

KGoodhand 06-14-2011 04:29 AM

I hope that announcement comes to some of the stores in Canada too!!!!

reginalovesfabric 06-14-2011 04:42 AM

our pre-cut fabric has not been restocked so I think that is a good sign

Drew 06-14-2011 04:53 AM

Does this only apply to Super Walmarts?

I don't want to get my hopes up if it does.

Deborah12687 06-14-2011 04:57 AM

This past weekend my husband had to go get his glasses fixed and we went to a super Walmart were he got the glasses that years ago had taken out the fabric. It is nice to see it back but it is all precuts now. I really didn't care for the fabric they had so I didn't buy any. I will stick to my local Walmart were I can get things cut with lots of choice of fabric.
