I had one for a long time ...when my youngest daughter moved to lower 48 she chose it..still has it ..I just last week won one at auction..15 hours of cleaning old grease, oil feathers and dirt/ it sews beautifully on straight stitch and I am waiting for a zz stitch plate to test that feature..she sounds wonderful!
Now I am waiting for a featherweight my husband said to bid on to arrive! These machines are the easiest machines to maintain. I have worn out several machines / and so sad singers newer machines are not made like they used to be. Wore out a futura II that I loved but it didn't last. Hope you get a good one!!

Have to say I agree with the Bernina owners - I have my mom's old Bernina (she died 15 years ago) and it's still a workhorse. My new BabyLock has all the bells and whistles which I love, but too new to rate for reliability.

I got an Ellisimo by Baby Lock for Christmas, I am still a novice on it, but I have the Ellegante by Baby Lock so am familiar with most of the features. They are both embroidery and sewing machines - but the Ellisimo has the larger throat, which now that I am quilting is a treasurer. I love the Baby Locks. Matter a fact I am going to sell my Ellegante for $2,500 includes travel cases and extension table if anyone is interested, lol.

If you've been following my thread about my machine woes, thought I'd update the tale. After a $200.00 repair bill, I am back in business. Have been sewing up a storm since my machine(or baby:) came home a week ago yesterday. I have really caught up on my pile of work, and started new projects, too. Still haven't broken one needle. Keep holding my breath, but so far so good. Working great.... I wrote to Singer support as was suggested, but they have not chosen to reply! Not very good support, I am thinking. I offered them the chance to cover my repairs or somehow make me happy. Told them we talk on this board! Back to work I go, spring is coming--someday. Rain snow mix predicted for tonight!

So glad you are back in business! Let's hope it stays that way. Wonder if you'll ever get a reply from Singer Support.... I was thinking if this machine gives you trouble again, I think I'd ask for a replacement machine, just in case it is a "lemon", as previously suggested. Singer isn't really a stand alone company anymore.

Today, the Singer Corporation is now part of SVP Worldwide, which also owns the Pfaff and Husqvarna Viking brands, which is in turn owned by Kohlberg & Company, which bought Singer in 2004.

I agree with susie-susie-susie, contact Singer and ask them what they are going to do about it. A two year old machine should not give that much trouble.
