OK...I enrolled the free class and so far love it

I kept hearing folks here talking about the free quilting class on craftsy so I figured why not...I will at least look at it...so glad I did...so far I love it! Very easy and quick so far. I did two blocks this evening after work.

carolaug 01-18-2012 03:18 AM

Using all scraps for my blocks. I had a bag ready to go to my friends house. I dug in there and found a few 1 1/2 inch strips. For the backing of my block...you need a 12 inch block to slice and dice...I used a pair of one of my 100 percent cotton pants that did not fit me and for my other block I had some scrap Muslim that was in my bag of scraps that I was going to get rid of. Yah...two me..this was two free blocks. I did learn some great tips and...the blocks look so had to make, but they were very simple. Slice and dice blocks.

toadmomma 01-18-2012 05:00 AM

I sign up for that class, but havent had time to do it look great though, will have to catch up.

Prism99 01-18-2012 09:15 AM

I had not heard of this, so Googled to check it out. For anyone interested in the free class, here is a link to it:

I've got the 2 blocks for Jan. done and really wish there were more than 2 for each month. I know I could make more than on each and may do that yet. Looking forward to next ones. glenda

I joined a while ago and finally made my blocks yesterday. Can't believe how fast and easy they are! Since they are "modern" looking blocks to me I am using orange and teal with a floral fabric to pull the colors from. Can't find my squaring up ruler so they are still a bit wonky. Isn't it amazing that you don't know you have misplaced something until you go to use it and can't find it!?

Chicca 01-18-2012 11:56 AM

I signed up for the free classes. Just finished watching the first video. How fun and enjoyable. I am looking forward to making the first block. Thank you for sharing this information.

Crafty is a great site. The classes that cost a fee are worth it too. One workshop at my guild is usually over $40 plus buy a book or kit.

TexasSunshine 01-18-2012 12:42 PM

I liked the free class also, haven't had time to make the blocks but look pretty easy.

nhweaver 01-18-2012 01:12 PM

I signed up too!!
Completed the first block and hope to have the second one done this weekend! Love the presentation, easy to understand.

DawnFurlong 01-18-2012 01:15 PM

Thanks for the link! Didn't realize this was here. I have a lot of scraps, seems a good way to start using some of them.

Prism99 01-18-2012 03:54 PM

Is anyone else having problems getting the video to play? I signed up for the free class, can get the course menu, can select introduction. When I click on the big arrow it goes to a bare-bones type screen and does nothing. I don't get a "loading" message or anything.

stichinluvr 01-18-2012 04:37 PM

I have my 2 blocks finished but haven't taken photos yet.

Thanks for the link. I sent it on to my beginner friend. I think the January lesson was presented in a no - pressure way and the blocks are fun and easy to do. She gives enough instruction to make the quilt accurately and she is a pleasant presenter. It is a nice introduction.

BSKTLOFR-QUILTER 01-18-2012 07:37 PM

I am enrolled and made my two blocks. I didn't square them up yet as I'm just waiting until I get them all done. I'm using navy blue, white solids, and blue and white floral print. I might throw in some red. I like the 2 blocks a month method. I have a feeling there is a method to their madness and the blocks will get more difficult each month. It will be fun to see pictures of finished product.

helou 01-19-2012 04:27 AM

Thanks for this link. I just signed up and watched the video. Amazing!

nhweaver 01-19-2012 05:01 AM

I squared up my first block a bit wonky, but I like it. Will do the second one this weekend and post a pic. Maybe we need to start a "group" for this project, where we can post pics and share info. what do y'all think?

hoppa 01-19-2012 06:33 AM

thanks for the link as I just signed up

I absolutely LOVE Craftsy. One of the best online class schools, for sure. I just got an e-mail from them with a new class that's coming up - don't remember the exact title but it's about quilting large quilts on a domestic machine. I'll be signing up for that one! (Waiting for a sale price, though...)

hodgepodge 01-19-2012 07:07 AM

I just signed up for this class. I have not started yet but can't wait to do first block.

mizsandy7 01-19-2012 07:50 AM

I also joined this class and finished the 2 blocks. I did have trouble with the second one, not because of the instructions, but just me . I had a macular hole surgery and it left my eye sight just a bit off. But if anyone has time, it's a fun class, and I also learned something new.

TacoMama 01-19-2012 08:30 AM

I signed up for the class!

I was interested in this class. Didn't know the classes went on sale. Do they just do that periodically? Guess I should keep checking! Or google it. I had seen mentioned a couple of times that for larger quilts (like a king) - an option is to cut the batting in thirds so that you don't have so much bulk to manipulate while quilting the center. I have an almost king size quilt ready for me to quilt, so am very interested in this.

Love your blocks!!!

bstock 01-19-2012 09:51 AM

Thanks for posting this! I think I will give it a try!!!

scrapykate 01-19-2012 10:43 AM

I've done one of the blocks and then did it again in opposite colors and decided to make a "snowflake" table runner. The material is snow flakes. I think this is going to be such fun to make.

Linda King 01-19-2012 11:40 AM

I am also doing the BOM with Craftsy, I love it, had a little hard time with the 2nd blk., so on the third time, I cut out a 13" sq. to get the 12.5 square. I still had a lot of fun and looking forward to February's block. Good Luck to everyone here that has joined Craftsy.

Ruby the Quilter 01-19-2012 11:45 AM

I signed up but have't done it - HMMMM if I spent less time on the board maybe my January blocks would be done!

littlebitoheaven 01-19-2012 12:22 PM

Prism99: I had a problem but after I signed up for the "Google" account, I was able to get the video to work. Also need the "Google" account to get the pdf files to print. Yolanda Wood River

I'm doing the free Craftsy class too. Finished both of my first blocks and they came out fine. I was going to share the pictures there, but can't figure out how.

wendiq 01-19-2012 01:19 PM

I had the same trouble on another site......Go to "Go Advanced" below.....then scroll down and print your message.....below that is another area with "manage attachments".....click on that and it will take you to an add a photo page. Hope this helps you.....:)

Here are my two.....this is fun!

White Eagle 01-19-2012 03:45 PM

Just started my two blocks. I usually save the last day of the month to make all my block of the month treasures. SinceI have several going (5) at one time it makes the day so varied it is like a vacation with all the different patterns and colors for each separate project. I keep them in large separately labeled manila folders until all the blocks are complete. I haven't lost a block yet with this method. The folders need to have at least 1/2" bottom for expansion as they get full. If it is a large project (full quilt and larger I use a hanging file folder with a 2" bottom) they hold several manila folders and work great.

jmabby 01-19-2012 03:49 PM

Thanks Prism99 for letting us know what was being talked about

I joined the free class and watched the video instruction but haven't made the blocks yet. (love the instruction though). That's because I also signed up for Peggy Martin's Strip Paper Piecing class that was 50% off - SO worth it!!!! I am loving it and am making a Valentine themed wall hanging. I am thrilled with the tremendous amount of instruction for $30!!!! It's as if I am attending several classes (works out to about $5 a class) and I can play them over and over. So glad I read the thread recommending this site!!!

sewbeadit 01-19-2012 04:24 PM

I think the class is nice also, easy to listen to, etc. I watched one but didn't make the blocks yet. Looking forward to making them though.

SherryW 01-19-2012 06:01 PM

Yes, I'm doing that class also. I've done the first two blocks and looking forward to the blocks for February. I did them both in one evening. I've never done a block of the month before, but I really like it so far. I've been wanting to make a quilt like this for a while. :) Happy quilting everybody!

Marysewfun 01-19-2012 06:52 PM

I just saw the video and dug out some material to try with tomorrow. I can't seem to get the pattern portion to print - and I never have any trouble with my printer on anything. Must be something I am doing wrong by hanged if I can figure it out. Looks like this will be fun, looking forward to the learning curve! :-)
