There is a world of difference between a low end machine and a Bernina or Pfaff. If you have the money to spend I would say you won't regret getting the more expensive machine. My true dream machine is a LA APQS Millenium or a Gammill but both are way out of my price range at the moment. I would love to upgrade myBernina to one with a BSR system.

I have a 14-year old Pfaff 7550 and a new Bernina 440QE. Both are excellant machines and ones I will never give up. I do use the Viking Mega-Quilter and it performs well (also the Viking 936 serger) but I have had lower end machines in the past and they are more work than they are worth. Quality really pays....

I also really like my Pfaff 1222E(about 35 yrs old), it has a built in walking foot, so my piecing comes out right.(as long as I cut everything right) I am the 2nd owner and bought it as I wanted a machine that has the built in walking foot and for machine quilting, the throat is 8". Its a lovely machine, too bad its so heavy; mere 35#. I collect machines, 15 years ago I had only a Bernina 1031. Now I've got about 12 working machines that I cycle through.

Butterflyquilter -- I'm probably way out of line, but my heart goes out to you for allowing yourself to be treated in this manner by the man that calls himself your husband. You deserve a lot more respect and you should stand up and tell him so. If you have the time, check out a couple of thrift shops or garage sales. You might be surprised at what you might find in the way of a sewing machine.

Shortly after I married DH, he told me that there is a tool for every job. He has a bazillion tools and he never denies me MY tools! I never have to remind him of what he said! Your husband needs an attitude adjustment!
