Honestly, I don't think I have yet met my dream machine.

QuiltswithConvicts 10-26-2010 03:26 AM

Janome 6600P - for everything!

quiltnut4ever 10-26-2010 03:34 AM

I have a new Babylock Ellure Plus and I own a Pfaff 7550. I'm going to sell the Pfaff in order to purchase another machine but my dream machine is the Babylock Ellisimo! Need to hit the lottery

Matilda 10-26-2010 03:50 AM

I have a New Home machine, but I would also like to get a Janome 6600.

learner 10-26-2010 04:09 AM

My Jnome 6500 quit too. Seized right up. Right now I am sewing on a Husqvarna Viking Sew Easy 250 my husband got at a yard sale for $10.

Did you check the lint under the bobbin case? Check your manual if you don't know how to remove the case. I good cleaning might be all it needs. My Janome is so sensitive to lint. It likes it's bobbin case and feed dogs cleaned out often.

Love my Pfaff quiltstyle for sewing.

Love my A-1 Elite 923 23" longarm for quilting.

Life is tough. Quilt therapy helps.

Aurora 10-26-2010 04:24 AM

At the moment I have a FW, but prefer my 301A for piecing. Next summer I will get my Red Eye Treadle cleaned and operational and and I have plans to turn a Red Eye purchased on ebay into a handcrank machine. Hopefully, I won't be too uncoordinated to use the treadle and handcrank.

mar32428 10-26-2010 04:24 AM

I use my Bernina 1260, my workhorse plus my Janome 6600 on my Grace quilting frame. Also Bernina Deco 500 for embroidery

Did you inform him that eating is a luxury and he won't be getting that for a while?

I was thinking more along the lines of clean underwear being a luxury too.

Not to mention sex.

RIGHT, Don't mention it. Become a sex object; when he wants sex OBJECT!!!!

 :XD:

I use my Husqvarna Viking Diamond for embroidery mostly, my Designer SE for misc., the Topaz for the walking foot, and the Designer I for 1/4" piecing. I use the Diamond for machine quilting with the embroidery unit.

Kathy-Pgh 10-26-2010 05:11 AM

Viking Designer 1 for piecing, Brother Quattro for quilting. Love them both

My husband knows better. Sewing is what keeps me sane and he knows I could be an unpleasant person if I don't sew. I saw some machines here at Goodwill for $39.00. I bought my Janome because my husband was going to buy another truck that we didn't need. He spent $700.00 and so did I. Now our budget is pretty tight so we both have to watch what we spend but he still buys beer so I buy fabric and notions.

mjorgenson 10-26-2010 05:35 AM

Love my Janome 7700. The single whole adjustment on the plate is great and use the accufeed feed all the time for piecing and the 1/4 in foot is great. Wonderful for bindings as I can set the needle position to give me a bit wider seam and then it goes through all the thicknesses it is really a nice seam allowance. Best machine on the market.

katlady 10-26-2010 05:53 AM

Pffaf 7570 as it has the ability to change needle positions & has a built in walking foot. Love my machine for quilting, stitch in the ditch, etc.

Marvlin 10-26-2010 06:11 AM

I like to quilt larger quilts on my Bernina 1230, its a work horse and never gives me any trouble. I like to piece on either my Viking Designer I, or Viking Designer SE/LE. I quilt smaller quilts on the Designer II.

Dream Machine Husqvarna Viking SE/LE. Love, love, love this machine. Of course I do a lot of embroidery on both the Des. I and the Des SE so I get a lot of use out of all the machines, just depends on what I'm working on at the time. I have a really bad habit of working on two or three projects all at the same time because I don't want to get bored.

mhansen6 10-26-2010 06:13 AM

I have a new Pfaff Creative 4.0. I just got it this past summer. I LOVE IT. I am going to ask for the embroidery unit that goes with it for Christmas. I have had Pfaffs for over 25 years and wouldn't buy another machine. I had a Pfaff that I burned up the motor on after 25 years of kids clothes then quilting. I looked at all the other machines and came back to the Pfaff.

qwkslver 10-26-2010 06:19 AM

I envy you all your babylocks and other expensive machines, but I can't bring myself to pay that for a sewing machine. I'm hard on them, go through a new one every few years. I got a Brother HE120 that is about to kick the bucket after about 4 years.

Marvlin 10-26-2010 06:20 AM

Butterflyquilter:

So sorry your machine died. Can new life be breathed in it? If not start serving soup and sandwiches for lunch and dinner, put away the rest of your grocery money for a new or used machine. If complaints come your way, luxuries come in different packages, eating high on the hog is a luxury so soup and sandwiches will have to do.

Look in the papers for machines for sale, sometimes there are real bargains out there and at very good prices. Always insist on a certified dealer to check out the machine before laying out your luxury money for the machine.

Good luck with your search for a machine because we all know we can't live without them. This is just a little bump in your creative world, but don't stop creating because when you get another machine, what a happy girl you will be. Your husband will be much happier too with a talented artist busy on her canvas of life.

Barbj 10-26-2010 06:23 AM

I'm with you, Marie! I LOVE my Pfaff machines. I sew mostly on a Pfaff Creative Vision - which I piece on, and embroider. I have a Pfaff 2058 that travels with me - love it too! I also own a beautiful Pfaff from 1860. Still works and is very smooth, but it's a showpiece, I don't sew on her. Quilting - ok, I'm a bit spoiled, my DIL and I have a quilt shop and we have a Gammill Statler stitcher.

purplefiend 10-26-2010 06:30 AM

Sew Lovins,
I love showing off my machines! They are so pretty and they work great too. I have 2 other treadle heads and cabinets, but they need lots of work before they are functional.

Dkm 10-26-2010 06:34 AM

Bernina 153. The best machine ever made and, of course, they don't make them anymore.

One thing I've learned through the years is that, one needs to buy good quality tools and maintain them properly and they will serve you well for years if not decades. I used to sell new sewing machines and learned that the machines that cost at least $300-600 work so much better than the cheaper machines in the $200 range and less. You wouldn't buy a car that was poorly made would you? So why do so with a sewing machine? You deserve a good machine and then you don't have to replace them every 3 -4 years. Sadly the Singer machines made now, aren't what they used to be; mostly clunky,
poorly made things. If you treat yourself to an older machine that's well made, you'll be suprised how much better you like sewing.
Getting off my soapbox now. :D

so true! You get what you pay for!

RkayD 10-26-2010 06:43 AM

I took my first quilt class with a Pfaff 7570..when I was able to buy a new machine I went with the Bernina 830 and got the quilt frame as a freebie. My Pfaff is a complete work horse and the Bernina is too..just a bit more bells & whistles. I do wish I had gotten the Mega Hoop instead of the frame though...I can't bring myself to pay $400 for 1 hoop. No matter how cool it is.

I would tell him he is a luxury and I could do without him. Priorities here.

GABBYABBY 10-26-2010 06:48 AM

I have a Hasqvarna Viking Designer I and I love it.
Bought it when i retired over three years ago.

mic-pa 10-26-2010 06:56 AM

I have three Janomes and use each one for different reasons. Love love love those machines. I alao have a husband who insisted I buy the machine I wanted. Lucky me

If I did that, he would tell me I don't need as much grocery money!

Take the quilts off the bed! I understand nights are getting cold in Illinois. I'll bet he decides quilts are good!

Jerudy 10-26-2010 07:17 AM

I have a Brother QC 1000, for when I take the plunge to quilt something. I've been using my featherweight to piece and found I get the most straightest and accurate stitches with that. Just picked up a Singer 66 and will be using that for piecing also. Gotta love those featherweights!

Everyone has said it already, but, my dear, I can tell you right now that the vast majority of us would look him dead in the eye, laugh in his face, and then RUN, not walk to get a new machine. I agree with the other gals, husbands are a luxury, not sewing machines.

neonparrot 10-26-2010 07:30 AM

I basically use 2 machines...My Viking SE and the Viking Magna Quilter. Each is used for quilting, but differently. I don't have a long arm.

cowgirl 10-26-2010 07:37 AM

I love my Babylock Quilter's Choice!

Amen sister!

butterflyquilter 10-26-2010 07:54 AM

I would have already done that if I had my own money. I only work very little in my shop because I am so busy with housework, homeschooling our daughter, church work and activities for my daughter (Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader, Sunday school, etc.). I am working on getting some applique projects ready to work on since I won't need the machine for them for awhile.

how about necessities of fishing/hunting/football, maybe even tools (like 25 electric drills?) etc.
