Hang out around the magazine racks that carry quilting magazines. Or ask the owner if he knows who buys those mags. An ad in the paper wouldn't be too far out for me in your situation. I was very fortunate when I moved 1700 miles to a small town outside a 38,000 pop. town. The next month there was a quilt show & I joined the guild, the next month I was the new show chair! The rest is history. Best of luck, I know how much activity lends to creativity.

http://www.quilterstravelcompanion.c...&state_code=OH - here's a list of groups in Ohio. Anything of interest here?

Years ago when I lived in Ohio a friend and I placed an ad in our local paper to start a small quilting group. To our shock, the ladies who showed up wanted to learn to quilt!!
So we started with the basics and grew from there and this was the best experience as we stayed together until I moved here 11 years ago. Still in contact and see who I can when in town.
Put yourself out there and see what happens.

I have found soooo many quilting friends here on the message board! When I see that they are from OK I just PM and ask them where at in OK. We chat back and forth and then decide to meet at a quilt store that is convenient for us both.

I know how that feels, and when you do meet some one they usually are to far advanced to take time

If you live in a rural area your small local paper could put in an ad something cute like "ANY QUILTERS OUT THERE?
You might have to give your phone number but it should be local people who answer or call you.

I know how you feel. We live in a small town about 3,000 people. We moved here about 6 yrs. ago, when my DH was very ill. We havent met anyone up here. Let alone someone who quilts. It's loney we are thinking of selling our house and moving out of the area. The thing is we live in the mountins and we love the climate here. Frest and cool.

and your local Church too.

No, no to an ad with the words lonely quilter!! Even a town of 20,000 has weirdos and you don't need them contacting you. The other ad suggestions and group suggestions sound good.
