Guess what?? I just heard from my Aunt and she is going to send me a quilt that my grandmother made! She and I are the only quilters in the family and I never knew she quilted. I wish she was still with us so we could quilt together. I am soooo excited, (can ya tell)?

I will take pics when I get it.

Good news Dawn. I have vintage quilts from a great-aunt, my mom, and one from mil and more from other family members. I Love mine and keep them in a cabinet so I can see them. I also keep a little cup of water in it and keep it full. Old trick to keep moisture in the air. Can't wait to see it. I am in the process of making labels for them so others know who's there were.

How wonderful is that!!!!! I still have the Sunbonnet Sue quilt my great grandmother made for me when I was born (almost 60 years ago). Hand pieced and hand quilted. I also have a couple of other quilts she made that my mom passed on to me. I cherish them.

Debbie what does the water do? Won't that cause mold? I've never heard of that.

That is so cool! I sure wish I had some of the quilts I'm sure my Grandmother & her relatives made. I mean - corn farmers in the middle of Nebraska. You know those ladies made quilts for those cold winters!

Pink Dogwood 08-04-2011 07:43 AM

That's awesome!! Can't wait to see it. When we got married 47 yrs ago, my Grandma asked if we wanted a NEW Bedspread or HER quilt she made BEFORE she married my Grandpa in 1917? I guess you know my answer...and I have loved it ever since. Someday I will get pics of it on here. Enjoy your quilt!

caspharm 08-04-2011 07:55 AM

How exciting! I agree with everyone, would love to see it when it comes.

marcialb 08-04-2011 08:17 AM

Very Cool!! I've got one that someone made for my mother from her dresses that she wore as a child. FULL of memories of her, even if I didn't receive it until after she passed. I look at it and smile, thinking of her.

It is such a good feeling to inherit a family quilt. I inherited a quilt from my grandmother a year before she passed 2 weeks before her 98th birthday (she died in 2010). It was a quilt that her mother's sister made for her in 1947. Totally done by hand. It was a proud day for me!!!
