Would use black sashing and variegated red, green, blue thread to applique.

Your blocks are very cute. What is the pattern? I agree that the bias would very nice, but I don't think I would be able to do that without stretching the sashing. I am new to quilting so maybe with experience I will be able to...
Good luck with your sashing and please post your finished quilt.... |

Language is not just "alphabetic" reading, but other indicators of information(paw prints when hunting, street signs, map designations, etc.) This teaches him to observe his environment, and interpret possible information in short-hand form. This takes the quilt from cute to a learning tool. IMHO.

The other prints would make a great backing, binding, and matching pillow cases. |

I love all those trucks! Your colors and the fabrics are perfect! Is this a pattern I could buy somewhere? What is the name of the fabric line? I would love to make this for my 3 yr old GS. |

I'm gonna be different and say I like the material with the vehicles in it. I also thought the idea to make a highway between the blocks would be a cute idea.

Lastly....
A big huge thank you to you all!!! I am using thread colors that match, tried black, and I just am not creative enough to get that to work, looked good on the blocks with not many parts, but for others with more smaller pieces, it just didn't look right...for the sashing, it will be the plaid, or solid black with white or yellow stitched lines to mimic a road, thanks to ya'll for that clever idea! There are so many wonderful creative people here!!! Love this board! Will post pics when I get it done... K |
I think you should get a solid blue - Kona or something - so the sashing just frames the blocks, not competes with them. They are ADORABLE!
|
Bright varigated thread or invisible. Like the plaid on the bias for sashing.
Adorable blocks |
The plaid.
|
The first choice that came to mind was the plaid. So plaid it is.
|
Plaid....doesn't make your eyes wandering around at the whole focus point of it. Those other fabrics are cute but the plaid lays it to rest.

I love the plaid.

I llike the plaid, but I would try to cut it so it would look like a stripe or cut it on the bias. I would use matching thread to applique the pieces down, or to simplify your life, use black or transparent thread. It would probably be best to use the transparent/translucent thread - it would make your life easier all the way around.
|
Definately the plaid....Very pretty....
|
I like either of the two darker ones. Cute quilt. Some little boy is going to be very happy.

I like the plaid - I did see that someone said cut it on the bias but I would be very careful about doing that because of the stretching; it would be hard to keep the blocks and rows straight.
|
Plaid!!!!!

The plaid gets my vote.

Plaid

I vote for the plaid. Be sure you cut it straight.
|
Love the plaid!
|
Again, I can never thank all ya'll enough for the helpful and kind comments! I am finishing the applique - one more area...yay!!! Then on to the sashing....with all of these ideas, I don't know if I can choose....lol...A big thanks to you all!!! Will post pics when done...

I think the plaid would accent the applique, not detract from it. The light is too light for me. And the one with vehicles is busy and would draw the focus away from your great work.
|
I like the plaid on the bias! Makes it easier too.
|
Thanks again!!
|
I like the bias plaid idea and how about a 1/2 or 1" band of solid (red, blue?) and 3" band of the large print for a border. (Or any size bands that would be right with the block size) A kids quilt can't be too bright. <grin>
|
See post "How would you applique these?" for update...will also post updated pics on new post soon..
Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and taking time to help me with my decisions....such a creative bunch of people here!!! K |
I think what ever you choose this will be a cute quilt.
|
#1 and #2 in that order. I love your blocks!
