Which One--- New Ideas

2 Attachment(s)
I gathered that about half of you didn't like my new fabrics in "Which One?" that I posted yesterday and I can see where you are coming from. Unfortunately I can't follow all the suggestions as 1) I am totally out of the light green, yellow, and red that was used in the quilt. I liturally had to piece patches of the green together in order to make it work. And 2) I don't get to town often to buy fabric. We are on a tight buget so I can't just go out and buy more. I always work with what I have and saved up to go buy the new fabrics; I would hate not to use at least one in this baby quilt:(

Anyway, that's my reasons for not exactly listening:) But here are two more ideas. What do you think?

osewme 05-09-2017 01:01 PM

I didn't vote on the first one but I see what I like here. I would use the green for a border & then I would bind it with the light duck fabric. I know that was not one of your options but if you had enough duck fabric for a large border, you should have enough to use for binding. That's going to be a darling baby quilt.

I like this idea also. Very cute quilt!

I like the narrow lite inside border and wider dark outside border.

I agree with AVFD215. Use the light border first to finish it off and then the dark green to ground it.

popover 05-09-2017 02:31 PM

You really don't have to please anyone but yourself. Its your quilt. Did Picasso fuss because someone didn't like that particular shade of green?

GingerK 05-09-2017 02:36 PM

Sorry, I really like the narrow green border. It seems to finish the blocks and picks up the green from the blocks and the ducky fabric. I think the ducky fabric is too busy as a first border but looks lovely as a wider second border. I know, I just have to be different, don't I.

pewa88 05-09-2017 03:14 PM

I vote for the duck narrow border and green wider. Cute quilt and those are darling squirrel appliqué.

NJ Quilter 05-09-2017 03:21 PM

I'm odd man out here - I'd go with just the wide green border and not use the duck fabric. Then again, it's your quilt. I might use the duck fabric for binding?? Do you need both borders to get it to the size you want? Just my thoughts.

rl2b-Roseanne 05-09-2017 03:22 PM

I didn't see your earlier post, but I like the dark green. Very cute quilt! When I had a cross stitch/framing shop, the general rule for picking a mat was to pick the third color your eye saw when looking at the project. The darker green border really pulls out the green in the quilt - is that what you like? There isn't a rule or manual for quilting. It's what is pleasing to your eye. It doesn't really matter what we think . . . we'll only see it when you show us a picture of it. ~smile~

I didn't love your earlier options, but I do love the dark green on the outside. It frames the quilt and picks up the green from inside it.

Maureen NJ 05-09-2017 04:39 PM

I agree with NJ Quilter. i love just the darker green as the border and binding. It goes great with the squirrels. I think the white white and off white in the duck fabric compete with each other. I would save the duck fabric for another quilt. BtW, your quilt is very nice.

zozee 05-09-2017 05:34 PM

The dark green border is perfect. It does pull the green from the quilt nicely. I'd use it alone, unless you really need the ducky fabric to make it bigger.

I agree with this.

gramajo 05-09-2017 06:21 PM

I like the green inner border with a wider border of the duck fabric. The narrow green seems to finish off the main part of the quilt. The ducks get kind of lost next to the main quilt.

sewbizgirl 05-09-2017 07:13 PM

I like the first photo here... It blends best with your quilt center.

MadQuilter 05-09-2017 07:36 PM

I like picture #1. Using the dark green by itself would be too intense, I think. Combining it with the ducks is perfect. You could bind in the dark green as well.

Well, then I am different too! :)

Totally agree ... dark green inner/narrow border and then the duckies for a wider border to finish it.

And this is why we audition, to determine what works best with a combination.

Well done NZQuilter!

Murphy224 05-10-2017 01:39 AM

I didn't vote the first time either, but I like the second one with the narrow ducky border and the wide green, and bind with the duck fabric. Not to create a new problem for you, but what are you using for backing? If you have enough, maybe back it with the duck fabric???
I really like this quilt and it really does come down to.....what do YOU like? It is your quilt after all.

Jane Quilter 05-10-2017 02:31 AM

I like picture #1

ka9sdn 05-10-2017 03:40 AM

I like the green for the border as it frames the whole quilt.

PatPitter 05-10-2017 04:48 AM

I like the first one -- inner green border and ducky border on the outside.

Mitty 05-10-2017 05:06 AM

I prefer the green narrow border and duckie outer border, but the other way would work, too. I do think the green looks better than the blue from yesterday.

I hope you don't feel bad for "not listening," we're all happy to spit out our opinions when asked (and sometimes when not!), but in the end we can all make our own decisions for whatever reasons we want. :)

ljptexas 05-10-2017 05:10 AM

I think the green kinda seperates the blocks = green thin border then print.... Cute...

Kitsie 05-10-2017 07:31 AM

Another vote for the first one! Dark green next to blocks, the finish with ducks.

bernamom 05-10-2017 09:05 AM

I like the dark green as the outer border. When you put it on the inner border, that is where my eyes stopped and I didn't notice the other border.

No need to start beating on us, she did ask us for our opinions.... ;)

I really like the dark green addition, it does 2 things for me: 1) it ties the red/green/yellow color theme together with the border, and 2) it helps the green in the ducky print pop, which in turn ties it together with the rest of the quilt.

IMO, you have a winner! :D

coffeegirl 05-11-2017 03:08 AM

I like the narrow dark green border but sorry, I'm STILL not a fan of that duck fabric at all.

illinois 05-11-2017 03:29 AM

I didn't vote previously either but, when I saw it, I wondered why the ducky fabric. It is a darling print but I'd save it for another project. And the green is kinda stark. Do you have a brown or tan blender that would compliment the squirrels? Are you going to put eyes on the little critters? This is a cute quilt though and you've done a great job on the blocks. Love your choices there.

tessagin 05-11-2017 03:52 AM

First I think it's a cute fabric. I looked at your original post on this quilt. I understand why you went with the duck fabric, (well, my thinking) and maybe because of the colors in the duck fabric. The 'green' umbrella pull (?). My 'suggestion' would be if you have to use the duck then use it for binding. BUTTTT This is your quilt. I am curious what your backing is. Can you use that instead of the duck?

red-warrior 05-11-2017 04:28 AM

I agree with NJ quilter,

Waal 05-11-2017 04:49 AM

I agree with GingerK. I like the narrow green border and then the ducky fabric as a larger border.

maviskw 05-11-2017 04:55 AM

I actually like the duck fabric next to the nine patches. They are the same kind of fabric; they match. And little kids will like the duckies, too. Beautiful quilt. Then the green border will work fine.

sewnclog 05-11-2017 06:02 AM

I'm agree with GingerK; I like the green border first; ducky second - for the same reasons. Very cute.

bigsister63 05-11-2017 06:11 AM

i LIKE #1. Cute quilt !!!! Nice job

Wonnie 05-11-2017 07:02 AM

I know you love the duckie fabric but I'm just not seeing it in this quilt. I'm sorry but when I ask a question I want an honest answer and I'm sure you do, too. I would either use just the greeh as a single border or you could use a 1" solid green first border followed by a 1" white border, if you have any, and then a 3" solid green border. Another option would be a 3" green border with an inner white flange.

klswift 05-11-2017 07:11 AM

It makes a whole world of difference when you use a darker small border to frame it. It tends to stop the eye and then you can go to a print (of almost any color) to do the outer border. I think the problem was not so much the colors, but the blending of one print directly into another. I really like the dark green frame border. And, I understand the dilemma. I have had to take small pieces and be creative in putting them together to make that last little bit for the last block!!!!

I totally agree with this. Binding with the duck fabric would really make it pop more than using it as a bordre

Very cute! Wish I could think up cute things like that.
The receiver will love it!
