I agree. This is the solution.

I think your blocks are lovely. Here are a couple options for arrangements:

Jennifer23, I love the second option! What a difference it makes!

I do think the colors and fabrics say "Christmas" rather than "baby".

bearisgray 07-24-2016 04:26 PM

I think the fabrics/colors say "fall/autumn" - I'm seeing rust, gold, and sort of a yellowed green. At least on my monitor.

I like 2nd option....amazing what a difference rearranging blocks makes! Nice job!

I agree with the majority of the comments. Rearranging the blocks will make a big difference. I love the 2nd and 3rd pictures of being rearranged.

Your choice of borders will make or break the blocks. I think maybe a really dark floral border would make them pop!

Rotate the blocks until you find something you like. I agree that this is not a pretty lay out at all.

daisydawg 07-25-2016 07:16 AM

amazing! looks like a totally different quilt. Not "ugly" anymore.

Michellesews 07-25-2016 09:35 AM

I don't see anything wrong with it. Probably needs borders but I think it's lovely.

new holiday theme

The colors look like Christmas to me. How about re-arranging the block layout and something to go with that theme. Diane C.

I tried this arrangement -- getting rid of one column (or you could add another one too, if desired) and adding in some sashing. Then in the sashing you could FMQ some cute little sayings or put some toys & whatnot in the wider sashing -- or even just quilt a bunch of different sized circles. Babies seem to love exploring quilted circles.

Me too ! Colour contrast is very nice.

This is what we ended up with. Thank you everyone for your suggestions and pictures. I have to get fabric for the border, but that will have to wait til we go to the fabric store.

I like the fabric colors and agree that you should play with block arrangement.

Love this....do you have any more of the fabrics? If you do, I would consider making another two blocks to complete the bottom ones (so they look like the other blocks). If not, consider not using the bottom two. This is just my opinion. I love the colors! The babies will be very, very lucky to have such a beautiful quilt to use. Thanks for sharing!

tuckyquilter 07-25-2016 09:07 PM

Yes, this is good. Love it.

The blocks you've made are nice, but not done like the traditional Log Cabin block, dark on 1 side and light on the other.
You could add a different block like I did in my quilt. I tried to put a photo in this message, but it fails every time.
