There are only 54 more days til' xmas! Do you have your gifties out of the design process and into the created phase yet?

Ramona Byrd 11-01-2010 06:42 PM

Oh, darn. This is about the 50th time that I'm not the first one to wish someone Merry Christmas.

Think on that a moment.

Quiltforme 11-01-2010 06:44 PM

HE HE HE! I was just thinking we only have 8 weeks left of this year and you darn well know it will fly by!!!! AND NO I do not have my ideas out of the desing process.. :)

earthwalker 11-01-2010 06:49 PM

Nope! We are currently "kitchen-less" in fact I am about to hop off the board and go belt some tile off the wall now all the cupboards and appliances are out. They tell me it will be ready before Christmas, but who knows? I do have a quilt (couch size) to make before November 20th...and a baby quilt to do (baby in question arrived last weekend)...but Christmas projects....in my dreams!!!

littlehud 11-01-2010 06:52 PM

Does it count if I have the fabric bought.

You have to start somewhere, right? :) :) ;)

deema 11-01-2010 07:13 PM

Eeeek. I really wish you hadn't put the number in days like that...LOL

Actually, I think I'll be ok. I'm quilting a double for the IL's right now, hopefully it will be finished and bound by the end of this week. I'm in the design stage of another double for my parents, with any luck it won't take as long as my IL's has...but I put that one away for a few weeks, so probably not. Then I have some oven mitts, pot holders and maybe place mats (depending on time) to make for my brother, but those are quickies, so I should be able to get it all done. I hope...

Wow, you are so far ahead of me! I have a couple projects started, but nowhere near completion

hperttula123 11-01-2010 07:28 PM

lol, nope. I just got started. I've got lots to do and I plan on making a bunch of cat and dog blankets for the local animal shelter(they need presents too). I'm not sure I will get all the presents done. I think I'm gonna start right after Christmas on next years stuff though. That way I don't have to worry about it next year.

mrspete 11-01-2010 07:48 PM

Hey, look at it this way, only two months. You're welcome.

teeheeheee, I mean blessings, Ruth

sueisallaboutquilts 11-01-2010 08:03 PM

Can you hear me groaning????????? lol :D
I get mad at people who start counting down before I'm ready hahahahaha

trisha 11-01-2010 08:26 PM

Got a good start. I have to have a bunch of presents ready for my brother to take home to Texas when he comes for Thanksgiving. Making table runner, hot pads, totes and wreaths for his family. Of course I have to decorate the house for Christmas before he gets here, and finish painting the bathroom, get curtains up all over the house, and on and on. But once he leaves I will have a whole month to do nothing but make presents. He will be here in three weeks. Haven't seen him in four years. And he has never met my family. Can't wait!!!

Gift cards worked last year for most people-----------will do the same this year. I do have about 20 flannel pillow cases done, maybe 3 dozen shopping bags done, several scarves knitted.

May try to make a few rice filled hand warmer thingies.

SuziC 11-02-2010 02:53 AM

OMG you have it down to days.....i will never be ready (i say that every year) I even started sooner than usual. It's a good thing i'm good under pressure :!:

redvette54 11-02-2010 03:06 AM

The step-kids get $$$ and socks and underware. I'm going to do a couple of sets of pillow cases, some 10 minute table runners and I have to sandwich and quilt an I Spy for GS. The big job I have to do is cut bandanas for all the grooming dogs at the shop, about 600 and it's felt. Then my co workers hot glue them, so they slip over the collar and decorate them. I have to have that done by Thanksgiving. I work so hard right before Thanksgiving and Christmas, I'm so tired by the time the day comes, I'm short tempered and don't want to do anything.

clem55 11-02-2010 06:23 AM

Guess I am just lazy in my old age. I stopped sewing for Xmas gifts a long time ago. I can't get out to the malls to shop, the walking is a little too much, so I do most of mine online. Have the big grandkids make out online wish lists that I can choose from, my adult children just tell me several ideas of what they'd like and where to get it, and the two little ones are easy. If I do go to the mall, everything gets done in ONE day.

QuilterGirl80, Thanks for the pressure. I mean reminder. As for Moi, I started working on Christmas gifts around March. But I'm behind where I should be, mainly because I have to make 2 business trips between now and Christmas (don't ya hate how working for a living cuts into quilting time? me, too).

I made a lap quilt for BIL; placemats for sister, niece, dear friend, and SIL; pickles, relish, and jalapeno jelly for many friends. Completed and wrapped 14 quilted stockings for friends -- each has the name sewn on it. Today I hope to finish 60 fabric Christmas cards I always give to MIL so she can send to her friends. I still have to make another set of placemats for dear niece-in-law. Later on I will make fruitcakes for parents (we are the last 3 people on earth who like fruitcake). The biggest thing hanging over my head is writing my Christmas letter; it is usually 8 pages long, has lots of pictures, and must go to the printer around Thanksgiving (it's earlier this year because of those business trips).

Oh, I guess I'm not in such bad shape after all.

Here's an example of the Christmas stockings I made for friends. Only a quilter can appreciate how much work goes into these little things.

Stockings for doggie friends. Dogs are people, too!

Shuddering !!!! Heck can't get started..too many on the "want to do" lists!

wanderingcreek 11-02-2010 07:29 AM

I susre don't need any reminders of how little time is left. I have so many projects on the go that my table is covered in little piles here and there of different projects. One quilt almost finished, two more on the go and everything else cut out, labelled and in piles around the room. Wish I could finish 1 project and then start another but that is not how I work. I need to have a gazillion things going at the same time so that I can switch between things. I have 1 more to cut out but it should be an easy one. I will probably be hand sewing bindings when everyone sits down to dinner. It won't be the first time! And I actually lose a day as we have dinner and open all of our gifts on Christmas Eve.

   , surely you jest? I haven't even thought about Christmas!

Flying_V_Goddess 11-02-2010 08:41 AM

Nope. Still getting things for my t-shirt quilt. Got half the shirts, fabric for binding, and I think enough fusible interfacing to back the t-shirts. I know what I want for the backing and borders and batting, but haven't gotten around to buying them yet. However, Tim is getting surgery done next week and can't come up until January so it gives me at least an extra week to get his Christmas present done.

Mariposa 11-02-2010 08:41 AM

I'm still working on a few projects, but no worries. Most of the family does not appreciate hand made items so they get things like breads, fire & ice pickles, cookies, etc. Which leaves me freedom to sew projects for me!!

Robinlee 11-02-2010 08:43 AM

I hoped to moved into new house by thanksgiving, so hopefully I can find the stuff I purchased or stashed away before christmas eve.

Yes, I have two neat stacks of fabric that keep getting moved to another place so I can work on the current project. I would be quite far along with my projects if life didn't keep getting in the way. Had DGS here for 2 days helping me in the yard, so I didn't get anything done those days. Today I have to finish some sewing (alterations) for a friend. Maybe tomorrow.....

uniquelynancy 11-03-2010 04:04 AM

I haven't even started ONE gift yet and I have at least 12 to make! Where does the time go????

Jeanniejo 11-03-2010 04:06 AM

I'm trying. Did my Christmas cards yesterday so they're out of the way and ready to mail the day after Thanksgiving. The rest of the time is for Christmas projects !!

plainpat 11-03-2010 04:14 AM

Does it count if you're planning to hit a good fabric sale?

I've begun placemats. Eight pieced and quilted but not bound yet. These will be for 3 family member's families. Thought I'd make pillowcases for my sons. After that, it'll be projects to stay in my house.

Oh Lordy do not tell me it is less than 54 days till the big guy gets here......

I am going to be busy as they come in December because I will be shutting the service end of the business down 2 weeks before the big day and I will be quilting like mad!!

Billy

Roxanne 11-03-2010 05:02 AM

54 DAYS......Wow, that give me lots of time LOL...
Seriously, I started in January and have now finished 10 baby quilts for QFK, 4 lap quilts for nephews and 1 full size quilt for favorite sil. Decided yesterday to start another "big boy" quilt for my great nephew since the only one he has from me is his baby quilt. He is 5 years old and loves Thomas the train and Cars (what little boy doesn't these days).. I'll do a simple 9 patch and use up some odd stuff from my leftovers.

Roxanne

Maiziedo 11-03-2010 05:15 AM

Boy! After reading all these posts, and all the projects needing to be done, I am in awe. How on earth do you get so much done in such little time? I must be awfully slow!!!

Applique,

I got the inspiration for making fabric/quilted cards from this board. I am not very creative, but I can copy like heck! That's why I appreciate the wonderful folks on this board who post photos and tutorials of their work. Check out the tutorial by DJ called "fabric cards - tutorial."

I also looked at this very excellent tutorial:

http://craftapple.wordpress.com/2006...ards-tutorial/

My cards are a combination of techniques I found on these two tutorials. I'm using holiday fabrics, and have completed 44 cards so far. Of course, you can use any fabric and make greeting cards for any occasion. Very cute!

Prissnboot 11-03-2010 05:34 AM

I've got a queen size quilt in the machine right now (sewing machine, not long arm machine) in the beginning quilting stages, also a major paper piece quilt (stadium throw size) for my mother, and another queen size for my pastor. And ONLY 54 days you say?
