I was going to use this beautiful fabric with turtles for a baby quilt for a boy. But when picking other colors to go with it, I noticed alot of pinks in it. They are brite and varigated. But not sure if it would be ok for boys. What do you think? Thanks

gabeway 03-14-2013 06:42 AM

As long as pink was not the primary it would be fine. It also has blues purples yellows which would all go with it making it more masculine.

craftycancer 03-14-2013 06:45 AM

ummm, well it is pretty vibrant and has some pink in there; but in my opinion it can be used as a universal quilt since the background is green and there is some blue in there; I think it will turn out quite nice!

Nanny's dollface 03-14-2013 06:46 AM

I think you will be fine, as long as other colors are used with this pattern such as reds, yellows, blues, purples or the background green. It will be a colorful and cheery quilt. Keep us posted.

Tartan 03-14-2013 06:47 AM

That fabric would be an excellent choice for both girls and boys depending on what colours you added. I would pair it with that turquoise blue for a boy? Hot pink would go well for a girl.

sewincircles 03-14-2013 06:48 AM

I think it would be okay for a boy.

bigsister63 03-14-2013 06:51 AM

I would use blue/red.

Sarah in Brooklyn 03-14-2013 07:06 AM

I think it's fine. Those pink/blue conventions are not as strong as they used to be.

PurplePassion 03-14-2013 07:07 AM

Ok, I have been anxious to use this , it is so beautiful. I will post a pic when done.

azwendyg 03-14-2013 07:08 AM

I think this fabric would be just great for a boy; bright, cheerful and happy! And when I look at this fabric, I'd have to say "it's green" because of the background.

Quilty-Louise 03-14-2013 07:19 AM

My opinion yes I think it would be ok for a boy.

Down play the pink and bring out more of the blue, red, & yellow.

This is just my opinion, but I like what the others have said.

ArtsyOne 03-14-2013 07:27 AM

Cute fabric! I would just add borders picking up the blue and turquoise and it will change the entire vibe to "boy".

lpsewing 03-14-2013 07:33 AM

I vote perfect for a boy quilt ! What boy doesn't love a turtle ?
Pick up the blue as an accent color,I think it will be lovely when finished.
Keep us all posted,please.

CorgiNole 03-14-2013 07:55 AM

Certainly good for a boy. I would chose blues, greens, yellows as your accent colors.

Cheers, K

AliKat 03-14-2013 09:23 AM

I would think it would depend on the size of the baby quilt. Many kids keep theirs, if the quilt survives long enough. Once boys get a bit older anything with pink in it is taboo.

newbee3 03-14-2013 09:31 AM

bqbies love bright colors I really think he would enjoy it

redquilter 03-14-2013 09:40 AM

I agree with everyone. It's fine for a boy as long as you don't add any more pink. Go with the blue, red and yellow turtles!

BellaBoo 03-14-2013 09:48 AM

I know my DD and SIL did not want any pink at all in my grandson's baby items. Really it's up to what the parents like when it comes to babies.

Luv Quilts and Cats 03-14-2013 09:58 AM

I think it would work for a boys quilt.

ube quilting 03-14-2013 02:40 PM

Where is the law written that there can't be pink in a quilt made for a boy. This turtle fabric is perfect for a little boy. If you don't add any more pink to the quilt it will disappear. There are so many colors moving around on this fabric it won't be noticed at all if you don't point it out. Add lots of other colors. It is wonderful. peace EDIT: Would you not make it for a girl because there is blue in it? peace

PurplePassion 03-14-2013 03:51 PM

Ube , yes I would make it for a girl and add brite pink. I love it.I think some boys and men look good in a purple or pink shirt. I am just trying to convince my grandson.

Yakkity 03-14-2013 03:53 PM

I think it is ok for boys too. it is like looking into a box of crayons.

GrannieAnnie 03-14-2013 04:19 PM

You've got a couple values of blue and of course the green adn plenty of red. Even black and gold

LynnVT 03-14-2013 04:26 PM

Why not ask the mom? I think it's better to make what she likes, rather than try to surprise her. Some people might be hung up on the little pink bits, while others might not mind at all. I agree that the other fabrics in the quilt would set the tone. It's so cute!

berryberry 03-14-2013 04:30 PM

It's cute fabric and could be for both a boy or a girl. If you're not really feeling this fabric, look at the northcott stonehenge undersea. No pinks or purples, but lots of orange, green and yellow colors just like your turtles.

They also have a cute whimsical dino roar fabric with carton dinos and it does have purple in it. Dinos can be both boy or a girl, but to me just scream, boy.

susie-susie-susie 03-14-2013 06:22 PM

I have to disagree. Some parents would not want any pink for a boy. Blue for a girl is alright (we are always the accommodating ones). I have a quilt that I made to be neutral--I used aqua, green, and yellow. It was all batiks, but had 2 squares that were a pinky purple. I took it into my LQS to get border fabric, my friend who works there said, "oh, they are having a girl". Then I found out that the baby it was meant for was a boy. I had my daughters and DIL vote and out of 4 votes only one was neutral. I would be very careful, you don't want the parents to put the quilt in a closet and never use it. JMHO By the way the fabric is very pretty.

In my world boys are allowed to like all colors. Babies love bright colors and this would be perfect.

Cybrarian 03-14-2013 07:02 PM

Make that quilt! I'm a Media Specialist at a a middle/high Christian school. Brights are in for all ages. I've seen pink shirts, pink Keds, multi print shoes with pink in them, pink socks, pink shorts etc. on guys. With all sports having games using pink stuff in their game uniforms to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research pink is an accepted, mainstream color. I'd pick up the bright blue, red and yellow in the borders and other blocks. I've seen some great multicolored stripe fabrics that would go great with it too.

justflyingin 03-14-2013 10:31 PM

I think if you add the blues and reds as sashing, borders, that it would be fine. But, like the others, I think it would be best to ask the mom for her opinion.

QM 03-14-2013 10:38 PM

I think it depends on how you use it. I have used a very similar fabric with a royal blue background to make a giant friendship star on a boy's quilt. If you are not adding pink, it should be fine.

Tropical 03-15-2013 12:29 AM

Who says boys can't like pink. When my boys were very young, the principal of their school wore only pink dress shirts. I'm sure the little boy will love it because you made it for him and it is very cheerful. :):):)

Judi in Ohio 03-15-2013 03:06 AM

It's perfect for a boy or girl. It's not over whelming in any color. I love it.

sweetpea 03-15-2013 03:19 AM

love it!!! it will be great for a boy. go will blue's and green's and it will be great.

catmcclure 03-15-2013 03:31 AM

Contrary to my former grandson-in-law, having a pink quilt will not sissify a baby boy. Elvis LOVED pink. He even had a pink Cadillac and nobody called him a sissy (at least not more than once).

MadP 03-15-2013 03:56 AM

Don't use pink for your other colors.

Btucker2714 03-15-2013 04:32 AM

I think it would be great for both boys & girls: boys - use green, blue & yellow. Girls use pink, purple & yellow.

Pieces2 03-15-2013 04:35 AM

I think this fabric will be great as long as the other fabrics are more 'boy' fabrics in color.
cute fabric. :) Love bright colors in crib quilts.

WMUTeach 03-15-2013 04:52 AM

It is a baby quilt and turtles. Use some of the blues, dark purples, yellow and enjoy making a unique and warm snuggle blanket for this special little boy.

pumpkinpatchquilter 03-15-2013 04:54 AM

I have made quilts for boys with a little pink in it. But, if it's not for you, you might not want to use it. Some parents are funny about that stuff. I personally wouldn't mind at all! :)

bunniequilter 03-15-2013 04:57 AM

I would use it, looks pretty gender neutral to me.
