I have two of them and also a lamp that uses a day lite bulb. Sure helped me with cross stitching. Use coupons when you can for the bulbs and lamps.

LOVE mine - use it for my sewing machine area and also move it to my chair when I do reading at nite or handwork. It is also great for matching navy/black dress socks!! :-)

I have two Ott lights and I love them. I had a third that I used on my sewing table and it died after two months. I reported it to Ott light and once I sent a picture of the light with the cord cut, they sent me a new light. It had one of those new bulbs in it, the spiral ones. I think I could see better with a candle. I gave it away. Although I would'nt hesitate to buy another Ott, I would not buy one that uses the new bulbs.

I have three-two floor models and a fold up table lamp. They are very cool (don't put out heat) and make everything show up so well. I got mine on sale at JoAnn's at different times. The bulbs last a long time. As a matter of fact, I have never replaced a bulb yet and the floor models are used daily.

To get in on the discussion of the lights---My husband and I both have one at each of our desks, really makes a big difference--will not change those---and I also have one in my sewing room. Really helps when I need to match colors, or to trim closely, can see so much better. Sibyl |
Some people are soooo silly! I have been struggling with sewing at night...dragging the pole lamp out and back, tilting the table lamp shade to direct light, just avoiding sewing at night! Until this post...I forgot that I had bought an Ott-Lite. I had packed the unopened box neatly away in the garage but I knew exactly where it was. Ladies and gents, the unopened box was post marked 02-09-2008. Yes, bought for half price when Joann's had a sale and never opened! Oh the shame of it. The light is now assembled, on and I can direct the light where I need it! THANK YOU for posting the topic and helping silly people like me. :)

I LOVE my Ott Lite! I don't know how I ever stitched without it! I used to use the daylight bulbs, and for me the Ott is a BIG improvement. I have a floor model by my chair that is used daily for hours. It was gifted to me by a friend a couple of years ago when her MIL passed away. She didn't think she'd have any use for it, so it came my way (bless her heart!) I am still using the original bulb-at least two years old.
I love mine so much in fact, that I recommended it to my friend to use when grooming her dogs. Her light travels with her to the shows almost every weekend. It's a bit more bunged up than mine, but it's still going, and she loves it too! |
love it love it love it!
I have 3 and I love them all, I wouldn't be without them.
I have two, the portable tabletop, and also the floor model. Use both of them daily. love them. Can buy at JoAnne's either on sale or use coupon if not.
If you are under 50 they are AWESOME!! If you are over 50 they are REQUIRED!!!! Go for it.
I LOVE mine! It is beside my chair in the living room. I use it for hand sewing, hand quilting, cross stitch, etc. Couldn't live without it! (LOL)
I bought mine at joannes several years ago and it sits next to my easy chair and is used every day and still has it's original bulb in it. It seems to last forever. Love it.
I have two of the "generic" ones also. A table top version and the floor lamp version. I love them, and will soon be purchasing another. If you have a big lots store in your area you should check there for the knock of versions. Mine are truly identical in looks to the OttLites, but I paid only $30.00 for each of them - and they both came with an extra bulb!!!!! I've had them each for about 3 years now and they are working wonderfully.

Mine was a gift from a friend who was upgrading. Thank you friend! They provide wonderful light for these aging eyes.
I have 3..wouldn't do with out them.
I read and sew with mine illuminating the area.I thinkit is fabulous.I also have a magnifying glass attached to mine.It is very useful as well.
absolutely but don't pay full price. Go to Joann's with a coupon.....
great deal on them.... sometimes it gets even better when they have them at 50% off |
I have a floor model and a desk lamp model. I bought both of them at Lowe's at a much reduced regualar price. If the store doesn't have them order on line and have delivered to store (No shipping). I got both of them in about 4 days. I am not as pleased with the desk style to travel so I probably will order the fold up one next. I take the floor model with me on retreats it fits in the tool box on my truck.

I think Ottlites are a great investment. Saves the eyes.
Wonderful lights. Go to Office Max or Depot to buy.
I love my lights, first one I bought my mom can use when she stays over because all she has to do is close the lamp, second one is the floor one , after christmas special half off then gift cards for christmas 199 lamp only cost me 25. love it, would have never spent that much on a lamp
Love mine. Floor model with magnifyer and pattern holder (clip).
I have two, one sits on top of my sewing table for when I use very dark colors and another that sits on the floor that I can move for when I do hand embroidery or near my sewing machine and ironing board. Love, love it. Bought mine when they were on sale, got the floor model at half price at Joann's

I have an inexpensive IKEA goose neck floor lamp and I use the Verilux true spectrum bulbs. Inexpensive but very effective. Bought the bulbs online over a year ago and still on the first one.
I have two of them. One has a magnifying glass attached. I use them very seldom.
We have several at our house & love them! They don't put out the heat like regular lights do, so in hot weather, that's great. It's a softer, more natural, light too, so easier on the eyes! I have a base one, that will sit on a table, or any flat surface, & it folds shut for easy traveling, if you want to take it with you. I also bought a clamp on one, to use on my machine quilting frame. Hubby uses them in his studio too. He saw how great mine were, so he wanted some too. Best place to buy, Joann's online, they run them on sale, 50% off, alot, so sign up for their emails if you haven't yet, & save some bucks!

I believe it is a must as I age as well. I wasn't enjoying my hand work for a while - really didn't know why. I bought an Ottlite, and really was able to SEE     AGAIN  .
Yes, for me it is a MUST :!: :!: :!: |
I have an Ottlite that I never think to use, but, every bulb in my house is a day-light bulb, much nicer light than an average lightbulb and a heck of a lot easier on the electric bill.
We just moved into a house from an apartment and the first thing my husband did was to change all the bulbs in the fixtures to daylight bulbs. He has chronic depression and the daylight bulbs seem to help him a lot with that in the winter. I bought a floor lamp at Lowe's for 19.00 that I have by my chair, it has a dimmer 13w daylight bulb facing upward and a stronger 23w daylight bulb facing down towards my chair if I want to sew. Each has it's own switch so if I'm not sewing I just use the upward one for general lighting. My hubby liked the way it worked so he got himself one for reading. |
There's a world of difference between an Ott light & ANY OTHER.
Yes, they put out good light.
I have 4 of them that I use and I probably could not sew without them!
Yes Very Well worth it.... we have 4 now 3 of the pop up ones and a floor one by the chair to read or do hand work. All was 50% off except the one dh got at the local Goodwill for $3.99 and the bulb was still good for a long time
I have 3 different ones and love them all!!
I have 3 and love them. First for painting and now for quilting. Couldn't do without them. They are worth the money.
I have them all over the place, by my chair where I read, by my bed where I read, by my sewing machine, by my table where I cut out fabric; I love them and would never be without one anywhere!

I have one that is the foldup style for traveling. Hospital rooms and hotel rooms just do not have good lighting. Yes I like it. But for the money and our budget I buy the daylight bulbs for my lamps at home and they work the same or better. I need all the light I can get for my needlework in the evenings. Try the daylight bulbs first before you spend the money on the name brand.
