Maybe it's just me. I don't get all bent out of shape about things like this. My husband would never dream of trying to do the ole switcharoo on me. I would not make a big deal of it if he ruined something of mine. My relationship with him is much more important to me than a pair of scissors. When you lose everything you have in the blink of an eye, you realize that things are just "things". And when I almost lost him, I knew I'd never "sweat the small stuff" again.

Some men live by the philosophy that it is better/quicker/easier to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission. When my boys were growing up, I kept my Ginghers hidden, and only used them for fabric. 25 years later, they are still quite sharp. Like others, I keep cheap scissors around the house so DH isn't tempted to use my good ones.

My son trys to snag them every now and then, so I bought him a selection of different child craft scissors, so now he leaves mine alone.

Amen. It's much easier to replace a pair of scissors than my sweetie.

That is funny, not so much for his poor wife. Mine are so much a part of me I think I would know even if they were just the same.

Happy New Year and yes, I've been away. Lots of family stuff to deal with as well as the holidays but things seem to be calming down.
Scissors! I have many pair of scissors for many different uses. When I made wedding gowns I bought specific shears and labeled them. One for satins, taffetas, linings, and other delicates. One for velvets and furs and fleece. One for beaded fabrics. One for interfacings, buckram and other utility type fabrics. I have scissors that are specifically tagged for cottons, denims, duck and canvas, etc. I also have scissors in every spot in the house: each desk, the kitchen (poultry as well as utility scissors, laundryroom, bathrooms and gift wrapping center. There is absolutely no excuse to even walk into my sewingroom for a cutting tool. They quickly learned if they did I would not use that scissor for that purpose again (would you risk a cut of fabric costing many $$?). They had to go buy me another identical pair. My som once had to replace a pr costing over $70. Then there are the pinkers and scalloping ones...............if there's one thing my kids took to their own homes it was what to use for what purpose. Now the tape dispenser was a whole other story....hahaha.

When my kids were little I used to have that same problem, hpwever, now that they're all grown, I can tell them if they use them, those are Ginghers and they're VERY expensive and they will have to replace them as soon as they're done with them. Amazingly enough, I haven't had a problem in years!

Oh that is such a funny story yet very clever. I just keep my sewing room locked.

I have a 'good' pair of scissors that I use for cutting jar tags (cardstock) at the candle shop. I marked them plainly PAPER ONLY. So where did I find them last week? You guessed it...someone had been using them to cut wick - which has a thin zinc wire in the middle of it. Hope I hid them better on my desk this time. LOL! At least they weren't my fabric scissors...those stay in my studio.

DH used my rotary cutter to yhack off some leathery substrate. Let's just say we had words. He now no longer uses my tools without asking first.
