so sorry this happened i had it happen to me once and it is very frustrating but that is one of the reasons i wash and put the quilt thru the test before i give it away

I also wash mine before gifting and now I see why that is a good reason. I agree applique would be nice. Maybe something line steam a seam 2 (double sided type) and stitch with small stitches.

I have my son's old baby quilt that needs that type of repair. Just been too lazy to fix. :)

What great ideas from everyone. I took a quilt this morning for a silent auction. Now I wish I had washed it - will do it from now one.

Know you will fix it and only you will know.

lucky for you, this is a relativelly simple repair to make...i make lots of quilts for giving away and for selling...each and every quilt i make has to pass the final test of a wash and dry before it goes out the door.....i call this my final color fast, preshrink, and high durability test.

Oh no!!! It's a good thing you caught this...
It really is a lovely quilt.

Well, nothing a little hand stitching can't fix. It'll be as good as new in about 10 minutes. Maybe not so easy for the recipient, so it's a good thing you washed it first.

I have never washed a quilt before giving it as a gift !!It has never been explained to me why I should or shouldn't wash it. I have given several quilts. How have I missed this ????? This is interesting, fill me in. Nancy

I made a quilt for my DD and same thing happened in one corner. Needless to say I was upset. Thought and thought about how to fix it without having to rip, rip, rip. Looked around in my oddball things I save and found an old pillowcase that was worn to a frazzle but had a monogram on it. I was from my Mom's old stuff and her last name started with a "G" and my DD's name is Geri...Problem solved. Carefully cut out the monogram and appliqued it over the spot. (I had stitched down the rip beforehand) No one will ever know!!!

I usually wash my quilts before I give them away. I'd rather find it first instead of the other person
