I heard a person on a quilt show state that "The Double Wedding Ring Quilt is suitable for beginners".
Didn't know whether to laugh or shout at the TV. HettyB |
Ginny Beyer's "difficulty ratings" for her quilts!

Stitch in the ditch is easy -- not for me!

That is partially true - but does not work out well for all blocks. From me: Oh, that quilt won't take very long. Hah! Replace 'that quilt' with 'the binding'. Binding seems to take way too much time. |
Nesting seams....not easy for me.
Sometimes winding a bobbin is frustrating. Mitering corners takes me a lot of thinking, no matter how many times I've done. it. |

I did a log cabin as a beginner and didn't have any issues. why would a log cabin not be good for a beginner?

"Use only the finest cottons from your LQS" is bunk. I recycle wonderful fabrics at an extremely small cost (My accountant DH estimates it averages .25/yd). I have fun and create some beautiful quilts.

Like Innov8R "use only the finest cottons from your LQS"....'fraid not...no LQS for kms and I am a rabid upcycler. I will try and make quilts out of almost anything, which is sometimes a challenge, but much fun. Sometimes I am almost intimidated by a good quality new fabric...and yet I throw myself into making quilts out of men's shirts or clothing with abandon.
