pink & brown, blue & brown

Are these color combinations still popular? Or are they "dated"?

vondae 02-08-2012 10:01 AM

I myself love both combinations. Not sure what others may think, but, for me they are timeless.

Mariposa 02-08-2012 10:04 AM

I like both, but not sure if dated or not! Oh well~

hobo2000 02-08-2012 10:10 AM

I feel they are a little over used. Last quilt show 13 out of 60 quilts were one or the other and people just zoomed by them. Some were very beautiful. The Storm at sea in the pink & brown was glorious. ( I am a judge at several small shows). It did not receive a mention. It really should have been in the top five. I really do not understand peoples attitude towards brown. Is it only in the east? Brown quilts do not seem to do as well as other colors. JMHO

It doesn't matter as long as the recipient likes the colors. I've made MANY quilts that I can't stand the colors. They were not for me though! Makes them not as fun to put together, but as long as they are loved, it doesn't matter.

Central Ohio Quilter 02-08-2012 10:59 AM

I am not especially fond of those combinations, but then I never have been.

sewbeadit 02-08-2012 11:22 AM

My daughter likes brown and pink. I would say make what you want and if it is at the quilt shows it must not be too old, or out of style.

LeslieFrost 02-08-2012 11:26 AM

Teal and brown seem to be hot together now. I see lots of that. A thirty something I know chose pink, cream and brown for her baby's nursery. Seemed like an old combo to me, but I found a good number of fabrics that fit her theme.

Momma_K 02-08-2012 12:43 PM

I have a new great grand daughter and her mom and dad (my grandson) requested the Pink and Brown, Blue & Browns. They are in fact a young couple so it must be still popular or as aboved mentioned it's a matter of taste and what you like. Myself I like the colors, I also like the teal and browns. I don't think it's out dated as much as how popular is was and possibly still is. Hope that helps.

wanda lou 02-08-2012 12:46 PM

I like the look of pinks and brown.

decky 02-08-2012 12:58 PM

I heard the new color for quilts was gray. I did see one made up with gray in it and it was beautiful.

LindaM49 02-08-2012 01:01 PM

I love pink and brown...not crazy about blue and brown. My absolute favorite is black background with pink dots.

Fraew 02-08-2012 01:03 PM

Still in style...at least in the baby section of stores. Currently, one of my favorite combos.

Jackie Spencer 02-08-2012 02:43 PM

I don't really care if it's popular or not. I like what I like, I don't care if everyone and his brother is making one or if no one has ever made one. I just do what I want to do the way I want to do it.

Ha! I like your spunk!!!

mighty 02-09-2012 07:25 AM

Dated? I just use the colors I like.

judylg 02-09-2012 08:57 AM

I agree with colors not being dated, if you like something then you use it, I like pink, brown and blue and use it where I can.

teddysmom 02-10-2012 03:52 AM

I personally like the brown/pink and blue/brown combinations.

jitkaau 02-10-2012 03:52 AM

I like to add a bit of cream with them as well.

gailinva 02-10-2012 05:15 AM

My feeling also!!!!

My daughter has a 3 month old daughter and the theme of her room is pink & brown. Their 14 month old son's room is pale green & brown. I'm making tag blankets for each & they have brown in them.

#1piecemaker 02-10-2012 06:07 AM

I have several fabrics that are pink and brown and blue and brown. They look good together. I like the color choice myself.

matraina 02-10-2012 07:57 AM

I both of those color combinations. Who cares whether they're outdated.

RDM 02-10-2012 08:00 AM

I like those combos. I go by what appeals to me and don't care if "dated". I think it's more about what colors play well together and what you enjoy sewing on.

cat2quilt 02-10-2012 09:26 AM

I can't see how they would go out of fashion but even if they did, I would still use them. I love blue and brown together.

What is it with "dated?" I hear it on HGTV all the time! "Ohhh! I couldn't live with (perfectly good kitchen) these appliances or this cabinet top! It's so 80's!

Here is the scoop on dated. By the time you get the quilt made, whatever color and whatever pattern you use, it will have been obsoleted by someone who likes orange and pink for little boys' quilts. Use the colors you like and remember that whatever fashion seems obsolete today will be back, maybe as early as tomorrow. froggyintexas

quiltymom 02-10-2012 09:51 AM

I don't care whats in or out I sew what I like mostly!!!

GiGi 02-10-2012 10:05 AM

How can any color be dated? If you like them, use them; it's that simple! Tks. G

jeanharville 02-10-2012 10:15 AM

I agree with the others. If you like it, use it.

hoppa 02-10-2012 10:27 AM

It is a matter of who the quilt is for that matters

butterflies5518 02-10-2012 10:31 AM

I made the DD #1 tourquiose & brown combo, she loves it. Her DH & DS quilts will be of similar tones. It was one of my favorites to make. I have more blue in my stash than any other color.

nannyrick 02-10-2012 11:16 AM

I love the combo.

paoberle 02-10-2012 11:47 AM

As long as you or the recepient like the colors, it doesn't matter.

lbc 02-10-2012 11:47 AM

I like the colors and does it matter if they are dated if you enjoy them?

Elaine433 02-10-2012 01:08 PM

I like blues, like turquoise and brown. I also like gray and brown. I am just not into pink-no matter what other color is with it.

cassiemae 02-10-2012 01:14 PM

Hi:
I don' t pay any attention to something that is outdated. I like those colors together just keep using them

ShabbyTabby 02-10-2012 02:02 PM

Love those combinations, especially like teal, cream and brown. Since I don't do quilts for shows (I am definitely not that talented) I really don't care what's popular with judges...lol. I combine colors according to the person's room it's for or my own personal tastes...I also love the ones with black backgrounds combined with burgundy or pink.

Butterflyblue 02-10-2012 02:03 PM

Well, I still see quite a bit of it, but to me it does seem like something that was more popular a few years ago.

Mazda 02-10-2012 02:05 PM

I still like those colors.

MacThayer 02-10-2012 02:24 PM

So just use the newest versions of pink/brown and blue/brown that are out in the stores. The Fabric Companies are always updating their fabrics, colors and patterns. You can't get the same pinks, browns and blues that you could get 10 years ago, or even 5, or the same patterns. So the stores keep you updated whether you want to be or not! Use what you love and leave the updating to the experts.

Just look at it this way: if you tried to wear the latest that fashion dictates, you'd look ridiculous and feel uncomfortable -- or at least I would. I've learned what looks good on me, and what doesn't, and I wear a version of those things, updated perhaps, but hardly the latest fashion. So why should I do anything different with my quilting?
