I hope to tone it down a bit by using one background fabric for the pinwheels and every other block in the 16 patch. I have a piece of white with yellow polka dots that I'm planning to use.

my DH has picked what I'm making. Apparently I'm using 2 charm packs of Lollipop instead of the Happy that I was planning on. It's all good. I like pinwheels. I might even open up a layer cake I've been saving for a year too.. that might be another one.

Just a thought for those who want to end up with a particular size. Start with that measurement and add 3/4" to it. It will give you some wiggle room. If you don't want any and I mean any wiggle room only add 1/2". Example if I want a 2 1/2 inch block when I am finished I will add 3/4" = 3 1/4" Then I can square up with less than 1/4"

For the perfect people they can add just the 1/2" with no room for a wiggle. Again the 2 1/2" finished with adding 1/2" will equal 3 inches. Will have to sew a very scant 1/4" all around to have that 2 1/2" block.

Here is my very first pinwheel attempt..The points do not match up but, I will keep on trying :-D

When I was trying to find information on how to sew a block with triangles (I'll have to do a new post as I can't find the answer I need), I came across this site mentioned by someone else here.

Is that the way you are doing yours?

I haven't started mine yet. I'm pretty sure I'll use the sew-around the block method. That seems simplest but I've never made a pinwheel before so maybe I should try both methods and then decide.

I started with a couple samples of the 3-D pinwhells and I really like the looks, so I am going with the 3-D one.
