ARGGG!!! I can't get my seams to line up for the flying geese part one is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch shorter than the other side, what am I doing wrong.

Can you post a picture? That might help to see what's up with it.

You drew a diagonal line on the back of the 3.5 sq correct? Stitch a thread away from the line (just next to, NOT on the line). The square is lined up even with the edge of the rectangle before stitching. Draw the line before layering, if the fabric is moving to much, use a piece of very fine sandpaper under the square. I prefer to use a mechanical pencil.

Ok ok after doing about 5 practice ones I think I finally understand what I was doing wrong it was at the point where the point is I figured if you make sure you sew a little bit more so the seams cross it works. I guess anyway I got it done but it took me hours and I now DO NOT like flying geese. But hopefully will get better with time because my next square for the Quilting Bee has flying geese. Anyway here is my block.

Mom I have cut out all the squares for the next project but than it says to cut them into triangles should I just sew the squares into triangle and then cut or should I follow the directions, thanks for your help.

what size did you cut out the squares? If you cut 4 inches I prefer to layer the squares without cutting triangles, f or each pair of squares layered you get 2 tringle squares. When cutting the triangles you are sewing true bias edges.

Are you making half square triangles? I like the Eleanor Burns method. For example, if it calls for 4.5" squares, make them 4 7/8 or 5", put them on top of each other, draw a line, corner to corner, sew 1/4" away from the line on each side then cut them down the middle line. Hope this helps.

I always round up to the full inch, saves time measuring 7/8 inch, and gives me that little extra to square off.

I did take photos of the layout before stitching and how I sew my rows together. If interested let me know and I will post pictures.
