There is no book to follow. From what I understand, they are dooing the Pioneer BOM blocks that are right here on the board. If you look under the block of the month you will find them. They can all be located to free on quilter's cache. They give the fabric requirement for each block, such as how many strips, what size, ect.

We are following the 2009 Pioneer BOM here on the board. Go to the bottom of the page here (or any thread) and click on BOM, scroll down and you will find the link with patterns. Start with Janurary.

For fabric requirements you could start with say 3 or 4 FQ of medium to dark and another 2 or 3 light FQ for backgrounds. I pulled scraps from my stash and some FQ. I need to choose different fabrics for block 2 as my original pieces I pulled are to small.
When all my blocks are complete I will look for border fabric.

I have block one completed, will post it later this evening after guild meeting

Here is my first block, went together easy. Post here or PM me if you have any questions. I hope others will post pictures as you finish your block.

I have cut out some blocks ahead and chose fabric for others. As I am pulling from my stash, large scraps, a couple of FQ's and 1/2 yd or to, I need to make sure I have enough fabric, LOL

I am finished, I did run into some issues the bottom of my block is not lined up completly straight, My recommendation is that you trim and line up the seams, which i didn't do too well on the bottom may rip it out.

brushandthimble, I really like the fabric/colors you used.

farnsworth, I think your block looks good.

I have my block finished. I just need to remember how to post pictures. It's been awhile since I've done that.

When I saw this sampler I knew I wanted to use fabric that would fit with the theme. Nothing struck out at me. I decided to use some from my stash - calico type prints in a red, a blue, and a green. Then, I have a cream color small print for accent. I may add more as we go along. I don't know how it will work out as I've never done a sampler.

Block 2 – Chisholm Trail
The 3 7/8 strips for color 1 and 3 are for triangle squares. I cut mine 4 inches and draw a line diagonally one the back of the three light ones, layer with fabric #1 and sew ¼ inch seam allowance on BOTH sides of the drawn line, cut on the drawn line and press to the darker fabric. You should now have 6 blocks, I use a square ruler and trim these down to 3 ½ square.

Color three cut into 4 rectangles 3 ½ x 6 ½
Color 1 cut (8) 3 1/2 inch squares and draw a line diagonally on the back. Layer these on the 3 ½ x 6 ½ rectangles pieces. Sew a thread away from the line (toward the corner), when you fold this square over it lines up better when you have sewn a thread away from the line instead of on the line.
