My thinking exactly! I just can't imagine parting with any of mine, but if we sell our home, we're moving into a condo. Guess I'll face that when the time comes.

Just pack them on up and label them "kitchen towels". He'll never know the difference.

Marcia has the right idea and he will never know that he moved your stash. But if that does not work out, you can always stay with us in the upper part of the big state of Texas.

OMG i laughed so hard at this! That is so wrong and so true. You can come down to Florida also. I will have a quilting studio to share. We can set you bed up in the loft =)

How funny--and true! Even my DH laughed at this one-and agreed!!

Glenda m 03-27-2011 06:42 AM

Maybe when DH finds out how many places you can go to, he will decide the let you keep the stash. Good luck on the move.

great idea! or you could tour the states..that would be fun!

jad1044 03-27-2011 07:14 AM

By reading the posts, you could have quite a quilters holiday!!! :) and when all else fails, there is one more place to reside waiting - here! have a great day and hope you can get your hubby to leave his personal belongings that mean so much to him behind also! Just say there is not room for them all - puts things into perspective in a hurry. :)

grandjan 03-27-2011 07:15 AM

Well (sigh) I guess if you can't take it with you, you'll just have to replace it all when you arrive. You might mention that to him.

Ramona Byrd 03-27-2011 08:05 AM

The day before you leave, bundle them up and ship them to your destination.

Have someone ready to accept them for you, should you not be able to get there fast enough.

Stitchit123 03-27-2011 08:05 AM

I;d adopt you and your treasures but I'll be moving soon too But I say -Smuggle- menfolk don't know the diff between linens and fabric and they ain't about to open boxes once you seal and label them he'll be to busy complaining about you telling him the right way to load the truck ,I had moving down to an art work

gigi10 03-27-2011 08:07 AM

quilter1943, the same thing happened to me. Just make sure to get a 4 bedroom, 1 for sleeping, 1 for his office, 1 for your sewing(make sure to get the one with the best closet and light) and the last one is for guest or stash overflow.

Farm Quilter 03-27-2011 08:15 AM

I'll adopt you! I'll give you country living with lots of quiet. You get your own bedroom AND your own sewing room...after August you will also get your own bathroom. Heck, I'll even share my longarm with you!!!

When shall I expect you? Oh, I forgot, you will be the only female there until I get home in October, my DH and DSS are easy going, love to eat and tend to forget to put away what they get out.

However, your stash is very useful for wrapping all that is fragile - plates, glasses, all your kitchen accessories...excellent way of getting your stash to your new home. BUT I REALLY WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU COME LIVE WITH ME!!!

quiltingb1 03-27-2011 08:26 AM

I agree with using the stash as packing material. That's what I did when I moved and everything made it here in perfect condition. Just remind hubby of all the money you spent on the fabric and that you will just have to spend more to replace it all and that will change his mind. If not you can come stay with me. Happy to have a friend to quilt with and to do my housework and cooking for me. LOL

twinkiedog 03-27-2011 08:32 AM

I read in a magazine where a husband said the same thing. So she marked all her sewing boxes as dishes. The moving guys mentioned that boy you have a lot of dishes and kitchen stuff. It worked for her. Good luck

But there is nothing like setting up quiltin racks outside on a nice day(no rain or breeze) and chatting with a friend while tieing off quilts.

Easy solution would be to move "his" stuff in with her husband. They more than likely will get along just fine and the two of you will have "sew" much fun together. There ya go. Problem solved. (Bet they visit you when they smell the food cooking!!)

grannie cheechee 03-27-2011 09:06 AM

I have an idea. Get rid of all your pots and pans, and just pack materials. It will be lighter if the movers charge by weight. LOL

KSue 03-27-2011 09:09 AM

I don't think you are going to have a problem Pippa. Most of us here are willing to adopt. Would love to have a partner in crime so to speak. He he

squeakie 03-27-2011 09:14 AM

how funny!! you can come to my house but i'm warning you i live in a small mobile home and you have to love 4 legged babies and grandbabies!!

mamachazz 03-27-2011 09:19 AM

I used my fabric as packing when we moved. I filled every empty space with scraps and wrapped glasses dishes with the bigger pieces.

GGrammie 03-27-2011 09:31 AM

When can you start?????

I'm afraid he'll miss your lasagna....

I'm sure he's just jesting....

Reminds me of a funny story. Forgive me for being off-topic. My grandmother was a plant fanatic--got them everywhere she went. When I was a baby, we were on our way back home to CA fromvacation. You had to stop & be inspected at the border, as you were not allowed to take plants in. She had one in a paper bag on the car seat. The inspector reached in to take it, asking what's in the bag? She said the babies dirty diapers & he withdrew his hand like she had said, "rattlesnake." Any babies in the house?

eimay 03-27-2011 09:35 AM

I love Italian cooking!!! PM me

Paulette,
I LOVE Ottawa. I'll come live with you. And I have a cottage about an hour away on a lake, so we will have a summer quilting place too. I'll be there before sundown - you'll know me by the big trailer of fabric I'll be pulling. ;)

We will all keep you. Give us the heads up on where you want to live. Men keep all of their toys and old clothes so we can too. Getting ready for you.. LOL.....HIS LOSS OUR GAIN.

So I am looking for someone to adopt me and give me a home with all my stash. In exchange I can offer cleaning, cooking (I make a mean lasagna) or baby sitting. Please? I can't live without my fabrics!

Pippa

First, I have a beautiful (and vocal and demanding!) cat named Pippa....it would be hard to have two of you with the same name in one house! Here's my advice, though: tell him that you don't want to move and that if you HAVE to move, the fabrics have to go with you because it's cheaper than mental health drugs.

BobbiG 03-27-2011 10:58 AM

Are you limited by weight?

mosquitosewgirl 03-27-2011 11:04 AM

I have room for you!

Daisy144 03-27-2011 11:22 AM

Your DH has no idea what he has started. :) Even my DH commented on how mean that sounded so you are more than welcome to come to West Virginia and live with us - have to clean out our daughters old bedroom but that will give us plenty of room for both of our stashes - just tell your DH that he can move to where ever your new home is but that you are going to the US and see all your friends.

How funny; yet so true, no one would ever look inside there! This has got to be the best idea yet! When my mom was living, she hid her checkbook and saving account booklet in her Kotex box and told only us two gals.

Very good idea! Packing paper costs $$.

Patticake 03-27-2011 12:24 PM

I will adopt you! I have a spare room and a quilting room with a long arm. Please come to my house!

breezy 03-27-2011 12:39 PM

Your scraps actually fit on your table!!! ;) I'm lucky mine fit in my house!!! Then there is my stash  Hope you resolve the issue, thats why I am glad I am single 8-)

Airwick156 03-27-2011 12:56 PM

ILL PAY YOU TO COME to my house. Ill kick hubby out in a heartbeat. (just kidding I love him dearly) And he can take the dogs too.

PattyS 03-27-2011 01:09 PM

See, your husband may want to be careful especially when it comes to our fabric stashes. I'd leave behind the pots and pans and then let him figure out how you are going to cook. I love this group. I can always smile when I read some of these posts!

Great suggestion! I used yards of fabric as packing supplies and it worked just great! Got the fabric shipped, plus I didn't have to spend money for bubble wrap! Wrapped lamps, etc! Where there's a will ... there's a way!!

alissa 03-27-2011 01:46 PM

You guys are funny... boxes of tampons, can you just see the expression on his face. :0 :)

penski 03-27-2011 03:38 PM
