Hi everyone! I just finished a quilt with a prairie point border and I'm wondering what will happen to those nice crisp little points when the quilt is washed. Have any of you had experience with this? I'm afraid they will be wrinkly and not so cute anymore. I'm gonna try and post a picture of the quilt because I'm really happy with the way it looks....crossing my fingers that this will work!

That's a sweet quilt! Love the pattern and your cute little points!
What's the pattern name, I really like it. |
Looks great, you did a wonderful job
Beautiful quilt-I'malso anxious go hear from othes who've washed prarie points.
love the quilt, don't know what will happen with your points, will be interested to find out. I would think since they are folded they may get a bit softer and not a crisp but still pointed. You could always iron the points afterwards.
The points really add something special. Beautiful. I too am guessing a light ironing will be needed.
Quilt is beautiful, but I don't know able after the wash.
Have confidence that it will be fine, maybe with a little iron touch-up. It's beautiful!!!
Yes, they will wrinkle but so will hopefully the whole quilt and it will have a warm homey look. This is a stunning quilt!

This is beautiful.

Love it! Very cute! That pattern could be used as a baby quilt also!

Oh my that is a cute quilt!! Did you use a pattern for it? I love the idea of the prairie points for the border. I think they will wash fine, I don't know that they will be crisp per-say, but I don't think they will get bent out of shape because of the way the fabric is folded.
Cheers! Rachel |
This is just beautiful, I just put it in my "want a do" stack!
love it!! I remember 30 years ago when I worked at a farmer's market, a 'little old lady' put prairie points on aprons, runners, about everything. I've made them a couple times, too.
The quilt is beautiful!! Love the colours you used.

What's the pattern name, I really like it. Thanks to everyone for your kind comments. I'm gonna go ahead & wash it & see what happens. Don't know if I am up for ironing points, but we'll see. |
Very pretty!

Stunning!!! I see someone else likes 30s fabrics!!! I don,t see a problem with your prairie points with the way the fabric is folded and stitched!! Perhaps a light touch with an iron just on the tips should restore them! It will still look fabulous!!!! Definitely on the 'To do' list!!

Love your quilt and your 30's fabric. I have not made prairie points.....now I am inspired.
beautiful quilt-love the colors
This is a lovely quilt. I love your fabric choices and the prairie points complete it just right. Thank you for sharing.
I made a quilt once with folded fabric. It was an orgami type pattern. It really looked nice--then I washed it. All the folded parts came unfolded. I ended up throwing it out. I was really disappointed--it was very pretty before washing. Hope you have better luck.

Beautiful! I hope to learn to do those cute prairie points as well ;-)
really pretty. I must try prairie points myself
Your quilt is gorgeous! Prairie points should be fine, possibly a light pressing after wash. Did you pre wash the fabric?
I love your quilt! Colors on white is so ?? sweet? fresh?
Great job! Maybe make a small block with prairie points and try washing that first? |
Nicely done ... and a perfect quilt to showcase prairie points!
As a kid I remember going to our local Fair, and ooing and awing at the quilts, particularly those with the prairie points. My Mom sewed, but didn't quilt, so I was in heaven looking at them. Have done a few PPs, though not as a full border yet. It'll come! :) |

They become softer but it doesn't deter from the beauty of the points.
Your quilt is beautiful.
I have made prairie points on baby qults...just not lately.
They were washed before I gave them away and they came out just fine. Never gave it a thought that they wouldn't. The way you fold them...then sew, I can't see how they wouldn't come out looking good. |
Your quilt is beautiful!

What a cute quilt...
Very nice!
...and thank you for a great "binding" idea for my "Cheddar Cheese" retro 30's quilt. I never would have thought of prairie points. |
Great quilt and love the prairie points. Glad they washed all right.
I made a quilt for my daughter about 15 years ago with prairie points and they are still nice and pointy and have held up really well. It was a very high quality cotton fabric so this may have helped a little. I think your points will be just as perfect after washing your beautiful quilt. Beautiful work
