I finger press my seams until I get my blocks made, and then I press the blocks. I probably do it that way cause I have to run to the utility room to use the iron. No room in my sewing room.

I also press all seams, have an adjustable ironing board next to my sewing table.

I usually chain piece, trim, and then get up to iron. Works for me. I have tried to lower my ironing board and put it on the side of my sewing table so I don't have to get up, but I find I need to move or I get stiff.
At our last guild retreat, I did notice someone had covered a TV tray table with a few layers of batting to use as an ironing station next to her. Looked like a good idea. |
I usually chain and then press after each step. In winter my ironing board is in another room so I have to get up and move around.

Speaking of seams do you press open or to the side? I find open works best for me. Do you leave your iron on all the time? I turn mine way down while I sew just turn it up when I press (across the room.)

I dont skimp or skip the pressing steps, learned that lesson the hard way. My pressing station is right beside my machine, sew a bit, spin and press a bit, works great for me.

I sew as many seams as I can then press(something I learned way back when). This saves time and energy. My ironing board is a few steps from the sewing machine.
