Last week was at a shop. They had some fabric that just had to come home with me. Got 2 yards of it. Wanted more. But at $13.99 a yard I couldn't afford more.

It looks as though we will be gone back to the time when people used their old clothes, etc. to make quilts. I guess some are already doing that with thrift stores.

Watch Joann's they (maybe not all) cut your fabric less than you ask for. I have read many ladies comments on the quilting board that they cut it short.

Here in Central PA we are very lucky to have Mennonite and Amish shops that sell fabric much cheaper and they are all quality cotton fabrics from the top fabric designers.

as the prices in the netherlands are as high as those in australia
($22-$24 or even more for specials), I'm always looking at the online shops in america to buy fabrics.
I too have a low income and couldn't even afford to quilt if I had to buy the fabrics here.
But still people here say I shouldn't buy in america but support our own quiltstores.....yes sure....they don't help me either by giving discounts, and if I couldn't buy in america I couldn't buy with them either....so it stays all the same...
except now I'm supporting some american stores, so I also do a good job here ;)

I just survived a Moonlight Madness (emphasis on the madness part) sale at JoAnne's. Some terrific prices--some even as low as 60% off. But the thing that always ticks me off is you get some great coupons (50-40%) off on REGULAR priced items and at these sales NOTHING is regularly priced except for some weird formalwear fabrics. So what the heck is the idea with the coupons!? I did score a buy one/get one free batting--king size 80-20 for $39 total. So I guess the $39 savings was worth the 20minute wait for my number to be called--just can't handle JoAnne's more than about once every 3-4 months--prefer the LQS.

Know that is a good idea to take a trip.

I am very glad I have a huge stash to rely on so I don't have to pay those awful prices right now.

I like Fabric.com $35 is no shipping charge.
They also carry Civil War reproductions, 108"-110" for backing with more than fair prices. I have had the best of luck with them and also excellent products.
