I use to use the hair clips but I found out that you can actually use the WASHABLE glue sticks by Elmer's to glue the binding in place. It actually works great. Found the information on this board......

I use the coated paperclips. They work great! I clip about 1 foot of the binding and just keep moving them along as I need. I can't watch videos, but I know it works better if you join your binding before you get to the backside.

I just press the binding - first away from the quilt, then folding the edge and steaming a crease in the binding.

I don't use any pins or clips while I'm sewing the back to the quilt.

The steamed fold doesn't require a lot of pinching with my aching hands and there's nothing there to catch on my sewing thread. When I get to a corner, I fuss with it a little bit to make sure that the miter falls in opposite directions, front and back and I sew up one side of that fold and down the other to close it up before moving on to the next edge.

I also ladder stitch my bindings. At first I used pins, too much finger poking. Then I went to the snap type hair clips, worked just fine. I took a quilt with me to a weekend away and forgot the clips. Found out that with the ladder stitch you don't really need to pin, clip, or glue. Binding turned out just as nice as when I used the pins and clips, and eliminated the extra effort (and finger pokes from the pins).

I keep hearing about the ladder stitch. How is it done? Thanks.

This is a easy to understand tutorial on joining the binding.
