My friend is a Foster Parent, and I offered to make a quilt for the child they are fostering, his court date is coming up and they are not sure what exactly will happen...I offered to make him a quilt, this is the first family environment that is stable for him and I know he loves and appreciates them. I am making him a spider man quilt.....

However, we want to make sure that this quilt travels with him where ever the next decision sends him...so the suggestion is the somehow put his name on it.

Any suggestions on how to put a name on a quilt???

TIA

When you make the label, put his name on it. For example:

Name of quilt

Made for (childs name)

made by

Your city

Date made

But wouldn't a label just peel off?

Could you hand embroider his name in one of the blocks or borders?

I would quilt his name right on that quilt in a contrasting thread color. I have quilted names on quilts quite often. It isn't hard. And no one is about to pick out the quilting stitches!

Well, you could always embroider it. If you don't want to do that how about just printing his name on a prominent block on the quilt.

I met a lady in a shop here in OKC who makes quilts for foster children and she told me that anything that was given to a child stayed with the foster parent where they were staying at the time so she always embroidered their name in about 4" letters on the top border of the quilt.

My grandsons loved their Spiderman quilts.

Bless you.

You make the label seperate, and stitch it on the back after the quilt is finished. Or us a pigma permanate marker and write all the information on the quilt back. I wouldn't use a sharpy, it will fade and wash out.

Or you could applique his name as part of the quilt front. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

Thanks everyone, i am def. no good for hand doing anywork LOL, i could try the machine quilting his name, that might work. I also have a embroidery machine, i wonder if i can do it on the back fabric BEFORE it gets quilted.

I've made a separate label, then attached it to the back BEFORE quilting. That way, the label is not only hand sewn in place, but quilted in place.
