[quote=RST]I don't like jigsaws -- there's only one right place to put each piece. I love quilting, because there is always a different variation, another solution, some little fix for what you didn't like. To me, it's a completely different mental process.
[RST=quote]

I agree. I've never liked jigsaw puzzles, but give me some fabric or even just a pattern book and I'm happy. My VBFF gave me a book of 5,500 quilt blocks for Christmas so I'm in heaven.

cjomomma 01-03-2011 08:56 PM

Hand waving like crazy. I get almost as obsessed with jigsaw puzzles as I do quilting.
My 4 yr. old has an obsession with puzzles too. He got 10 dollars for his B-day and he bought 8 new puzzles at the Dollar Tree. He probably has 50 puzzles in variuos sizes. I hope this means he will be a quilter too!!

scowlkat 01-04-2011 01:00 AM

I have never liked doing puzzles. I think it is because not only is there only one place to put each piece, but it was someone else's idea. I have very seldom used anyone else's quilt pattern, I prefer making my own.

tmg 01-04-2011 02:56 AM

I like the sudoku puzzles and I'm thinking about making a sudoku quilt

granky 01-04-2011 03:17 AM

I love puzzles, but have a choice...sewing space or puzzle space. Guess which wins?

sew wishful 01-04-2011 03:39 AM

Oh, my. I love puzzles too, but since I've started quilting I haven't done any! Didn't think there was time or room. You guys are the best...as soon as our last Christmas family gathering is over, I'm getting the card table out to get one going!

girlsfour 01-04-2011 03:56 AM

I don't understand it, but I don't care for puzzles. It makes sense that I should, but I just don't. Oh well!

PattyH 01-04-2011 03:58 AM

Try the Quilt Show with Alex and Ricky. They have a puzzle about once or twice a month. You can either do it with rotating or non-rotating pieces. It usually takes me 30 or so minutes to do the non-rotating. Rotating just takes up too much valuable time. Could be quilting instead!

I do the National Geographic puzzles on the computer every day. There are 10 new ones a day. Between them and this site, I don't have much time for quilt related activities. Ha! This way I don't have to buy them and find a place to store them. I can work them and then delete them. There is a site that has quilt puzzles, but I can'tremember where they are, and just happen onto them. When ifind it, I stop and work on them and then go on.

farmer623 01-04-2011 04:28 AM

It's a running joke in our family that I can't do puzzles, even the big, kid kind. I guess I can quilt because I can look at the pictures. One of my daughters was wondering the other day how I am able to quilt.

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 01-04-2011 04:42 AM

I'm working on a puzzle right now. I also like crossword puzzles and before I spent most of my time quilting I liked building doll houses.

Nanjun 01-04-2011 05:08 AM

PattyH 01-04-2011 05:18 AM

Thanks a bunch for the National Geographic site. Just did my first puzzle. LOVED IT!

Lyn 01-04-2011 05:31 AM

I love puzzles but can't do them with 8 cats around so I do my quilts.

Zephyr 01-04-2011 05:33 AM

I learned that two fur babies and a puzzle is just impossible!

pocoellie 01-04-2011 05:41 AM

Not me.

Anne Marie 01-04-2011 05:44 AM

Yes! This forum is amazing.

GemState 01-04-2011 05:48 AM

Now the question is: If you like to quilt and you like jigsaw puzzles were you good in math in school? Do the 'math people" piece more traditional quilts and the "non-math quilters- do more non-traditional or art quilts?

Good for you! I'm a crossword puzzle enthusiast, but haven't completed a NY Times puzzle. Washington Post Sunday puzzles are more my speed.
My husband is an ace at puzzles. When he was a kid he was sick a lot. He'd do the jigsaw puzzles in a snap, then turn them OVER and put them together that way. He has a good eye. His suggestions with color placement when I put a quilt together has been part of my success.
Keep on with the NY Times puzzles!
Do you do them in ink?

duckydo 01-04-2011 06:16 AM

I love them

Deborah12687 01-04-2011 06:22 AM

Every New year I buy a 1000 piece puzzle to work on. I chose one this year that is very hard of a mountain scene. I love puzzles but this one I am working on is going to take a while.

Jshep 01-04-2011 06:31 AM

I love puzzles too. My favorite is Thomas Kinkaid. I keep one going all the time. I will quilt for a while, then work the puzzle, then read. I also love to cook, but have recently developed diabetes, so I am looking for new recipes I can eat. Anyway, by having so many things going at once, I never get bored. Oh and I also love TV (especially the Food Channel and Lifetime Movie channel)

Gail B 01-04-2011 06:36 AM

I love puzzles. My favorites are Disney Photo Mosaics and Christmas.

raptureready 01-04-2011 06:38 AM

Jigsaw, word search, cryptograms, crossword, etc. I just love puzzles.

jme 01-04-2011 06:47 AM

I love to do puzzles! Just found one before Christmas in the thrift store that's a big quilt (only 1.00 on sale day!). I'm going to finish it and one day hang it in my sewing space. Don't really have a space right now just use my kitchen table.

darcy1936 01-04-2011 06:50 AM

I love puzzles too, I do the puzzle of the day thats why I don't get my quilting done beside reading what everyone here has to say hahaha

LouBert 01-04-2011 06:56 AM

Love it and even my 8 yr old GD loves to do them with me

Well actually I was terrible at Math...Numbers used to bring me to tears when I was in grade school... Don't know why Hated them. When I was growing up Me, Mom, and my 2 sisters did puzzles as a cheap intertainment as we were a poor family.. we love doing them.. I was good with the 1st graders while I was a paraprofessional helping those that seemed to have the same problem I did... No problem with reading I exhaled in that... In 2nd grade I could read 3rd and 4th grade books and comprehend what I read.. This should actuall be another thread.. I love to piece more than doing whole quilts.. I also like to do my own thing instead of following a pattern. although I do follow some patterns.Better at math now than then. Just don't give me anything with Algebra and I will manage....

We must be twins. I read over breakfast in the morning, quilt, then work on puzzles in the evening. I'm working on a Thomas Kincaid 1000 piece puzzle now. Very difficult. I also like to cook and love Lifetime movies.

trolleystation 01-04-2011 07:06 AM

Me too, Me too, Picture puzzles and crossword puzzles

Jshep 01-04-2011 07:08 AM

Lori we do sound like twins. I also read in the mornings. I work during the day, so mostly quilt on weekends. Do some of my handwork at night while watching Lifetime movies. Work on the puzzle at all different times. I am learning to grill vegetables in the oven using different spices (from watching Food Channel).

Always have a quilt going and always have a puzzle set up!

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 01-04-2011 07:25 AM

I have a crock pot, clay cooker,George Forman grill. I love to try new things. The clay cooker makes a great chicken, the crockpot a great beef stew. I read cook books like novels.

I HATE puzzles - always figured it was my love of sewing which fit the need to put things together???

Joanieu 01-04-2011 07:29 AM

I also love puzzles - I buy only the 1000 or more pieces - I have a NSCAR one that is little pictures in each piece. Haven't started it yet but now that the holidays are over I can put it out on my dining/kitchen table and start on it. Maybe... I have 2 quilt projects that I need to complete. but I just love doing puzzles always have.

Homespun 01-04-2011 07:30 AM

I love the Suduko puzzles although I only do the easy ones with ease! One of my goals is to make a Suduko quilt.

foxxigrani 01-04-2011 07:38 AM

I do I do

sewnsewer2 01-04-2011 07:42 AM
