I have several mats and the large Fiskar mat was showing lots of wear and changing the blade on my rotary cutter really didn't solve the problem. So I cleaned the mat with a Mr. Clean white sponge and then took extremely fine sandpaper to it in a circular motion---something I learned while helping my son sand down primer before painting a car. Then I cleaned it extremely well with a clean sponge. Made a huge difference.

I have wondered if my old decrepit mat could be used for the bottom insert for the bags we make for ourselves and others. Cut up into the right size pieces, it certainly would be removable when washing a bag.
Just a thought..... |
I worked at a quilt shop and agree that the mat wears out where you repeatedly cut fabric, ours wore out the most at 18 inch mark
