Question about cutting boards
I just put in a new rotary cutting blade & cutting is still very difficult.
Could my cutting board be wearing out? Do they wear out? Would buying a new cutting board solve my problem? Or? Any suggestions? Yes, I did clear my cutting board & turned it over to try the other side. No better. Thanks for you help. |
Are you sure you didn't put two blades in my accident?? I did that once.

I use only name brand blades, what brand of new blade did you put in? I have flipped over my 20 year old Olfa mat and a new blade still cuts like butter on the back of the mat.

As mentioned, make sure that you have only one blade in your cutter. Then make sure that you have reassembled it correctly. You are not supposed to tighten the screw down all the way on some cutters. If you are using a HF blade, you might just have a bad one. I have had bad luck with them.
Yes, mats do wear out eventually. If your mat is wearing out it's usually because of repeated cuts in the same area so you will most likely have skipped cuts, not a difficult time cutting in general. If you tried the back and are still having problems I'm guessing it's not your mat. |
Are you sure you out the rotary cutter back in the correct order

It sounds like you have your assembly screw too tight. Try loosening it a quarter turn and see if that helps.

Like others said, I think it's an assembly problem. There is a YouTube video on the assembly of the Olfa.

No one has yet addressed the type of cutting mat you are using.
There are mats and then there are MATS!! Olfa cutting mats are one of the latter. They are truly self-healing and do NOT destroy your blade. There are many cheaper mats on the market; consider that you get what you pay for. Jan in VA |
Usually, my problem with problems are most likely "operator error". LOL. Me, being the "operator".

Mats do wear out. Also the cutting surface underneath the mat makes a big difference. One table at guild any mat will not let anyone cut without gaps. Put the same mat on a different table and no problem. We have to demo this to the unbelievers. LOL
