I buy both. Love Hoffman batiks! Batik Plus is a great website, and all cuts are very generous.

I would buy both. The mottled for contrast and the watercolors as a blender or light. Looks like you could go bargello crazy.

Depends on the end use, but if buying for stash I would start with the ones on sale for the best price, and build from there!

I like the mottled one just because I have not seen it before; they both are lovely.

I LOVE the mottles. The watercolors would make great blenders. So I guess my answer is both.

Love the 1895s! If I could find a brick & mortar store that carried more than 30, I'd be in heaven -- and financial trouble - LOL!!

I prefer the second set as I do alot of quilts on black background and like to use the bright colors.

Not to get too technical here, but technically, only the mottles are batiks. The watercolors are hand-dyes. On Hoffman's site, you can tell the difference by looking at the name -- if it says hand-paint, it's a batik. Of course, all batiks are also hand-dyes, but not all hand-dyes are batiks.

We're just about to unpack our big shipment of mottles and other new Hoffman batiks and hand-dyes today. Can't wait to see them! The cool thing about ordering in May and not getting them till October is that it's like opening a big Christmas present. The other side though is that it's a lot of work to get all those fabrics up on the website. :mrgreen:

I love both.

I love both! But I tend to use watercolors more, as I like them for smaller pieces, and I do more smaller items. The mottles are great for borders and such, and those special projects.

Both, I love batiks.
