A very young 62 !

ghk1936 04-28-2011 11:22 AM

Remember age is just a number-I am 75 but don't consider myself old. Some people are old at 25 and some are not old at 75. I love to quilt and still go to the gym 3 days a week-now gym's are not for old "folks"-right?

littleone 04-28-2011 11:24 AM

turning 60 in Sept. still feel like a young chick. LOL.

djg 04-28-2011 11:24 AM

I like what you say here. I'm almost 56. I too am a late starter - still a newbie - only been quilting less than a year. My husband also thinks it makes me "an old lady" because I took up quilting. He also says dumb things when his sugar is low!! By the way, I am also in MD.

I'm pretty senior as years go, but refuse your husband's category of "old ladies." I'm 82, still teaching (adults only, these days!), and quilting as much as I can, between keeping the household together, playing tennis, piano, and gardening. Grateful for good genes, and recommend that we all "keep busy" and keep going!

stitchingcrazy 04-28-2011 11:53 AM

Sis Phillips12962 04-28-2011 12:00 PM

I think you will be taking a poll. If you take a pole all of us old ladies will be hiding and will not admit that in fact we are. Iam 73

Just saw a great quote by Satchel Paige..."How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?"

Nanabanana 04-28-2011 12:08 PM

Husbands - they just don't always understand! But we do! I'm 58 and started quilting about 11-12 years ago. My time with "old" quilters has been the most enjoyable times spent with other people! We tend to be a great bunch of home-spun, patriotic, virtuous, spiritual and common sense thinkers wanting peace in our souls! Most of us lead hectic lives with families and work, so quilting is where we can go to release the stress. I use the time to pray for the person I'm making the quilt for.

RobertaMarie 04-28-2011 12:10 PM

77 will be 78 in September
My DH will be 82 in November

I promise not to share your age (he, he) but with the few thousand on our board.

I am 44.

You are?

I'm 64. I've been sewing since I was big enough to sit in a chair and reach the pedals of a treadle machine.

I've been knitting since I was 11-12. I learned simple crochet at the same time. More complicated crochet maybe 8-10 years later.

I've been embroderiing since I as in the early grades.

The first thing I remember that would qualify as quilting was when I was 20 or so and did a small lone star for the back of a chambray shirt.

I learned most of this from my mom. I've never had a home ec class or any other craft class in my life.

lindalou 04-28-2011 12:37 PM

I'm 61 - Is that an old lady? I guess so, but I feel younger. Linda

desertrose 04-28-2011 12:37 PM

Sorry I'm going to confirm your DH's opinion becasue I am an ole lady...

My Age: 63

meme peggy 04-28-2011 12:39 PM

I am 73 and 1/2, and I have no doubt that many of the women quilters along with myself could hold their own doing a hard days work with men of your husbands age, sugar in or out of whack. Being from Texas tell him be careful of talking about age, he may not get any older. Have a good day even with your "BH" husband....memepeggy

Good for you! You are an inspiration to keep doing whatever we can at whatever age we are!
