I think that's a great idea.

grandma anna 08-11-2011 04:18 AM

I think it is a great idea I would adopt.

gigi4419 08-11-2011 04:22 AM

Great idea!

sankay 08-11-2011 04:43 AM

I would adopt and it would have a good home.

OmaForFour 08-11-2011 04:55 AM

YES! and you can also PM me as soon as you get anything. Thank you for taking on this great mission of salvation of quilts.

cmilton 08-11-2011 04:59 AM

wonderful idea. we should all do it.

jeanneb52 08-11-2011 05:21 AM

sounds like a great idea I would adopt!

Quilt4u 08-11-2011 05:27 AM

I would adopt too if I could fine any.

Deborah12687 08-11-2011 05:33 AM

I found a quilt at the Goodwill that was so beautiful and couldn't figure out why someone would just give it away like that so I purchased it. It had a tag in the lower corner with a name and address on the corner of it. I took time to look up the address and found the person who made it. The quilt had been left on a table at a family picnic. She was so glad to see it and she did pay me what I paid for it. Shortly after that I found the quilt board!

fosseldaughter 08-11-2011 05:50 AM

I would adopt as well. I have friends that go to great lengths to show off old quilts, though they are not quilters themselves.

smagruder 08-11-2011 05:56 AM

I would certainly buy in to this idea.

AnnT 08-11-2011 06:07 AM

Put my name on the waiting to adopt list!

That is a great idea. I would love to adopt one.

sharoney 08-11-2011 06:41 AM

I would!

Suz 08-11-2011 06:45 AM

LindaM49, please post a picture as we would like to see DH's grandmother's work. We can then all enjoy. Thanks.

MS quilter 08-11-2011 06:47 AM

I will give a loving home to any adoptee quilt.

barking-rabbit 08-11-2011 06:53 AM

Good idea, some of us don't go to yard sales to find the deals. You may need a waiting list.

This story reminds me of when my Grandma and I rescued an elderly ladies sewing goodies from a fire. She had died and her son took all her prized goodies and piled them outside and set them on fire. I told Grandma what he had done and she went over and put out the fire and rescued the goodies. I promised my Grandma that day that her prized sewing goodies would never be treated that way.

Several years later when Grandma died.....I rescued her prized sewing goodies from the dump. My Uncle called me and asked if I wanted her sewing crap. If so, I had 1 hour to get it or it was going to the dump. I was very upset with his attitude!!!!!! I went and loaded my car with all of her goodies. There was 3 boxes left and I told him I would come back and get them. He said that when I left the rest would go in the pickup for the dump. I tied those boxes on the top of my trunk and took them home.

In those boxes was a beautiful Umbrella Girl quilt top, several quilt tops cut and ready to sew. I have shared Grandma's sewing goodies with my family and I still have several cut squares of blocks waiting to be used.

Normacharlie 08-11-2011 06:56 AM

I still can't believe someone would give up their heritage for $2.00! Her grandma is turning in her grave! Yes, rescue any others, someone will always want them!

karenpatrick 08-11-2011 07:25 AM

I know I would.

patdesign 08-11-2011 07:40 AM

Sounds like a nice idea, I have rescued 3 so far from thrift stores.:)

dphelps 08-11-2011 08:04 AM

I would be glad to adopt and what a wonderful idea. If someone found a quilt to place for adoption it would be really nice if they were also able to get some history of the quilt to share.

Rann 08-11-2011 09:21 AM

I would love to adopt. I am always looking for one.

bebe 08-11-2011 09:22 AM

yes

lollygagging 08-11-2011 09:58 AM

I would love to adopt a quilt. The adoption certificate is a great idea. You could put the date and location you rescued it on the certificate!

brendadawg 08-11-2011 10:37 AM

I think that would be a very good idea. I'd probably adopt one (or more).

PatinAtlanta 08-11-2011 11:14 AM

I will definitely watch out in the classified for these. I should do garage sales but never do. Now that I am retired, maybe I will!!

I have loved reading the stories on this thread. I hope no one burns my stuff or sends it to the dump!!

thelondonzoo 08-11-2011 11:21 AM

I think we should all keep a look out for quilts needing to be adopted and then post them when we find them. I'm going to stick to my under $10 price range just because I want more people on here to be able to afford one than if I bought one for $40 but that shouldn't stop anyone else for buying one over $10. I'm going to hit the thrift stores this afternoon, wish me luck! :D

Floralfab 08-11-2011 11:40 AM

I'm sure the lady who made that quilt is looking down and smiling at you.

Paisleyc 08-11-2011 12:12 PM

You have a wonderful idea with the "Adopt a Quilt" (feel free to use it, if you want). I know I would love to adopt one and would even go to $20 plus S&H.
You are a kind soul, with a smile in your heart, and God looking down on you with pride!!
Why don't you start a list and I would like my name on it too.

Thanks again for making my day!!
Carol from NC

fairydawn 08-11-2011 12:36 PM

I would love to adopt a vintage quilt!

thelondonzoo 08-11-2011 01:04 PM

Thank you, Carol. :) As I find quilts I'm going to post them in the Classifieds section. That's the only fair way I can think of doing it that way if it's a pattern that someone doesn't like or a size they can't use then they can pass on it and let another adoptive parent have a shot at it.

MrsWiggs 08-11-2011 01:10 PM

I'll adopt!!!

cheaha39 08-11-2011 01:12 PM

I buy the contents of abandoned storage units and I have many adopted quilts. I have had to repair or finish many of them and they made great gifts. I would love to adopt more.

A fun part of finishing a paper piece adopted quilt, is reading the 1930's news. I save as much of the paper as I can, an put it in a plastic sleeve on the back of the quilt, to authenticate the quilt.
