Why not?! There's a blogger who recently stopped blogging. But, her blog was still there. She almost always has a quilt on her table as a table cloth. It looks fantastic.

I have several table top quilts, the oldest is over 10 years old. Made and quilted just as one for the bed or sofa, get washed when soiled and never have an issue getting food stains out with a decent prewash treatment. Don't use a plain tablecloth often, only once or twice a year.

I imagine the quilts on the tables are fantastic. I'm in the process of finding a suitable pattern for my table which is gate legged so will need to fold over the end and not slide off.

The only time I've put a quilt on a table was when 6 of us were playing Tenzi, (a game where every player gets 10 dice and rolls them as quickly as they can to get the designated numbers.) It's a loud game and the quilt made a huge difference. We removed it when it was time for dessert.

I always use a quilt on my dining table when my family comes to visit. Since my grandchildren are young, I cover the quilt with clear plastic. I use a clear shower curtain cut to size since I don't have a local place to buy clear plastic on a roll. I use very thin batting. I've also used a sheet for a cloth under the quilt like in my chicken quilt.

I have one of Pam Bono's books (Quick Rotary Cutter Quilts) and she has quilt patterns in it specifically made to be tablecloths that are super cute. I am a total slob when eating and I must use ingredients that will leave a stain that can't be removed. I have the stained tablecloths to prove it so I would not use a quilt as a tablecloth while eating. I would not hesitate to have a quilt on the table to protect it. My mom had me make one for her that is round and exactly matches the dimensions of her table.

I always have a quilt on my table. It makes the room look warm and cozy. Use of batting depends on the look you want. Some quilt tops looks better with it and some are fine without it. Try it, I bet you will like it. it can always come off at meal time.

I have made several with scrappy string blocks. I use very thin batting or no batting. Made one for son and daughter in law. Son says its confusing since the strings are made from vegetable and fruit fabric. He says it is all the colors of the food they are eating lol

I use mine as tablecloth all the time. I have several. Made them with regular batting, wash them regularly and haven't had a problem!

You could spray Scotch Guard on it to protect it from stains.
