Last Sat., Dec. 4, I mailed a lap quilt to my sister for a Christmas gift using the postal service. It was going from Indiana, PA to Kent, OH, not a long journey. I only sent it with delivery confirmation, no tracking. It hasn't arrived yet. I am sick at heart. It is the first quilt I ever made for her and the first time I had a quilt longarmed. UPS delivered my other sister's and mom's quilts in 1 day. Live and learn. Next time I use UPS for everything!

If you had Delivery Confirmation, there is a tracking number. You can go on USPS.com & see where the package was processed last.

Sharon,
Don't give up yet. Even though it should have been there already, it may still get there. Pray about it. GOD knows where it is. |
Call your local post office. They should be able to track it to it's last scanned destination. I had the same thing with my mother in law's birthday gift. Had hubby mail it and insure it, No delivery confirmation or anything else. they were able to track it down to where it was last scanned. with help from several post offices some wonderful workers found it sitting in a sub station to be sent back to me becasue the zip code could not be read. they changed it and sent it to her. Took almost a month, her card mailed the same day got there the next day.????
If your local post office does not want to track it, try calling the 800 #.
Keep the faith, don't give up. I bet it'll show up soon. Remember it's the Holidays and all sorts of packages are out and about. It'll get there, maybe a little slower but it'll get there.
contact the post office and have them to track it down for you
That is really odd - out for delivery means that the mail man is suppose to be delivering it that day. I would definitely contact the post office and find out what the deal is. The mail man should know where he left that package...
stinkers though - I hope it makes it to her! |
Don't panic yet - this time of the year things take longer and get caught up in places .
Always buy insurance to anything important that you send through the mail. Its not a lot for peace of mind.
Lanny |
Six days - is longer than usual - but I don't think it's time to panic yet. Give another two or three days and keep us posted.
It took five days last spring for a Visa payment to arrive - it arrived one day late so it got a late charge - |
Out for delivery here means tomorrow. We are on the edge of town but have a rural carrier. I asked him where my package was the day before when it said out for delivery and only got a smile in return. Humph! I am a Fed Ex person after UPS damaged an antique table I actually had packed for shipping at their store!
I've had this happen when an item was delivered to the wrong house in my neighborhood. I've simply called the post office and they've located my mail carrier and had him try to recall where he remembered it being delivered to. I will say that some of finding it depends on your mail carrier's memory so I wouldn't wait too long to look into it.

I have all packages delervered to my business, open 6AM to 5PM but......when I have a ''new'' guy deliver my mail, he will just leave a package sitting outside the door!!!! No knock or anything!!! If it wasn't for the fact that the dogs hear his footsteps and bark, I would never know a box had been left......and my business door is 4 foot away from a public sidewalk. Knock on wood, I've never lost a package but.......
jodi in leavenworth PS....they tell me, if it won't fit through the mail slot, the subistute delivery people do not have to ''open'' the door to deliver mail....shaking head in amazement. my regular guy ALWAYS comes in to chat for a minute or two..... |
Well, the story has a happy ending. The mailman didn't deliver it to the front door like he usually does. He stuck it between the storm door and the back door! She just found it late this afternoon. I think the next time, I will make all deliveries in person!! :)

Good heavens, sweetie!!! That's not long enough to start worrying! My friend sent me a check from her home, 40 miles away, and it took 8 days to reach me!!!! Glad she got it okay.......
Glad it arrived safely
Glad it arrived! I sell on ebay and ship daily but this holiday season things seem to be moving slower than last.
I totally disagree with insurance though. The hassle to do all the paperwork isn't worth it. |
Well super glad she got it!! Now, send it my way!! HA! HA! :-D :-P
Soo happy to here you had a happy ending! I would have been heartsick as well - especially after having it done on a LA.
I'm glad it arrived safely!

It took DS's sticker a month to get there when it should have only taken ONE day!
It will get there! Keep your chin up. I just mailed 2 quilts and I insured them just to be safe! Let us know.
Yeah it got there!
I had a priority take TEN days to go one state over--don't give up yet , but call the PO right away---probably delivered to the wrong house--ALWAYS insure! learned that the hard way...lost an embroidery that I had over 150 hours in!
I know it's scary when you send something precious and it doesn't get there when you think it should.. In years and years of mailing packages out, I've never had one actually get lost.. sometimes they are delayed.. One even came back to me because I had put some crazy address on it, (still don't know how I did what I did!).. Our postal system is very very good.. Just give it more time, it will come though!!
So relieved for you! I've never had anything lost by the USPS. Can we see the quilt?

Lanny a $20 comforter from Kmart. And the fabric price - they don't understand you had to buy 50 FQ's to get that gradiation . Only that your quilt is 72x72, so it's 8 yards of fabric (front and back). And fabric at Joann's is $3 yard. You do the math. Not pretty. And I'm pretty sure FedEx does NOT allow insurance on works of art, especially the handmade kind. Most of the big names in quilting, when sending their quilts to shows/appearances, have some sort of separate insurance policy, or a rider to an umbrella policy. And most of those quilts have already been appraised for insurance purposes. If you didn't know, if your house burns down, and you don't have some sort of rider and/or written appraisals, you're getting the $20 Kmart for each of your handmade quilts. That's why it's sometimes worth it to have it appraised (a written appraisal at a local show, or ask at your LQS - they'll know someone) The cost for a written appraisal runs around $60. At least then, if there is a disaster, you would get some value back. So you're not Caryl Bryer Fallert - the appraiser would still look at your quilt, the value of the fabric, quilting, artistic contribution (and I know that's subjective but I can't think of another way to describe it) to come up with a $ amount. So a quilt full of Mariner's Compasses would be valued higher than a YellowBrickRoad quilt. Which makes sense. Again, it's not perfect, but it will get you more than $20. |

I have a package missing now and it sat in California since Dec 1st, going to Nevada. LOL Now it went to Mass. and is on it's way back supposedly. The post office has you fill out a report to locate and seems they found it on it's little tour around the states. I hope it shows up soon. Hope yours shows up the same time mine does. Think positive.

Sounds like the airlines with lost luggage!
I came home today to find my December Secret Pal box sitting in plain view on my front porch. We have lots of teenagers who walk down our street from school and I am always worried that they will see a package and steal it off the porch. My dh wrote down the wrong address on a form when he got his replacement laptop battery and when he checked Fed Ex, it was delivered to our neighbor. He walked over there and the package was on the porch, but his name was on the box, so he just took it. The neighbor wasn't home and never had a clue that he had a box on his porch. Nobody around said a word. That was how easy it was. We put big planters on our porch and some UPS and Fed Ex deliverers will place a box or package behind them. When we walk up to the porch, we can see them clearly, but anyone from the street cannot. However, USPS never does. They leave them exposed. I would rather drive to the post office to pick up a box than worry about it getting stolen before I could get home. |
Your quilt is beautiful....so glad it was found!

I am a retired letter carrier and use to leave packages in all kinds of places. I also left a note so the person knew where to find it..I didn't want to take any back. I have even left packages in the grill in the back yard. Dry and out of sight.
So glad your quilt was found. Crisis averted. LOL.
Whew...glad this story had a happy ending!
