Maggie - your quilt is beautiful. Whats the difference between a mid arm and a long arm. And please don't say the space between the thing is wider, lol I'm referring to the entire set up of them. I have seen people's set up of LA but not quite sure about mid arm Are they more affordable?

I make every quilt just for me but somehow or other they manage to find new homes - which only means I have to make another quilt just for me. There's always one in progress and usually someone wanting it ... I did manage to keep the second one I made because we use it every night and it is HEAVY and WARM. Made from colored denim squares with a fleece blanket backing (no batting) and tied - when it needs washing it goes to the local laundromat and into the commercial washer and dryer because there is no way I can stuff it into my domestic machines

A Dear Jane, and I will someday.

azwendyg 04-11-2011 04:13 AM

The one in my avatar; it's "mine". :)

ronnie17 04-11-2011 05:00 AM

a plethora of colors, with a preponderance of purple, a splash of cats

Dotsie 04-11-2011 05:01 AM

I don't want to be a dull old lady, would like lovely summery colors.

BeckiQuilts 04-11-2011 05:12 AM

I have several tops made, just for me, but nothing quilted. My quilt will be Hearts in Bloom, whenever my frame is empty. It's not very well done, but it is my own "not very well dne". I was still at the crawling stage of learning to piece! LOL

Yooper32 04-11-2011 05:15 AM

Oh, so many, how to choose? I would love a log cabin in soft colors, red, green brown, cream, beige, but it would have to be light in weight, can"t stand the heavy weight anymore on my feet. I have a log cabin UFO in blue and yellow but lost interest long ago. I am in love with the 4 patch posies also the floral log cabins. Too old to make one of each, what to do???

Scakes 04-11-2011 05:35 AM

I've got 1 hanging on the back of my recliner right now. It's a log cabin quilt featuring blue roses - my favorite flower. I also have a blue rose tattoed on my shoulder (anniversary gift from my dh several years ago).

Lynneander 04-11-2011 05:46 AM

I have made some quilts for "myself", but when family comes over, I end up giving almost all of them away. The smile on their faces is worth it all!

I can't wait to see that!!! I hope you post pics!! I was in the Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor and have collected some really cute fabrics, one that was very unique has Navy ships, a map of Hawaii and orange hibiscus on it. I bought it on Etsy and have never seen anything like it.

nancia 04-11-2011 06:41 AM

this is a tough one because i would want different ones for different moods. i would like a log cabin with turkey red and hand dyed period colors, and a cathedral quilt with embroidered flowers in the windows, and a silk in bright glorious colors, or any quilt someone wanted to make for me specially. :)

Nolee 04-11-2011 06:41 AM

A gorgeous shades of green log cabin with a scalloped edge I don't own a quilt myself.....isn't that strange???

CloverPatch 04-11-2011 06:46 AM

Doing an Apple quilt NOW for myself. It's appliqued apples, having so much fun with it! I have been stashing greens for a quilt for over a year now. It is also for me, don't know if shell ever get done!

Now then a Quilt for my husband..... Since he is often overseas, or as it is right now, living in another state. I want to make him one, but don't ever seem to make the time. I have the fabric for it. Some batiks to make a rail fence. It is on my to-do list of patterns. It looks neat but soo simple. I am in no hurry to just sit and sew the same three strips together over and over and over again. I don't care how neat it will look when its done. Wish I could just fast forward through the pieceing of it.

I have made three for myself.. The wedding ring pattern was a joy to make.. have it on my bed now..

Grandma Peg 04-11-2011 07:13 AM

Double wedding ring in blues. This quilt scares me so it's on my to do list.

Remember this would be for just you. So dream on.

I would make 2 mariner's cross' one in the green shades for my husband on a brown background, and the second one in the blues and purples with a black background. The backing would be flannel a nice thick fluffy flannel. For the batting I would make them double thick, as we like our house cool and heavy blankets on us! Now these would be used for camping so I guess that I would want to make a third one for our bedroom which isn't too hard, I would make it tumbling blocks in an assortment of colors, same thing for the backing and the batting!

Oh to dream!

The next quilt I want to make for myself is a lonestar. I'm not sure of the colors though. I've had so many ideas go through my head for it.

I am working on one right now! It is from a 2001 block of the month club by Thimbleberries called, "Quilter's Garden." The blocks are done, and I am obsessing over the borders...

When I put a label on the back of this quilt it will have to be huge because I want to tell the whole story of how I traveled from California back to my home state of Minnesota and found my fabrics at The Main Street Cotton Shop in Hutchinson, Mn. - which is where the Thimbleberries studio also happens to be. I thought I was walking on hallowed ground!!!

My sister and her daughter were with me and we spent HOURS finding just the right colors; it makes this quilt so special to me.

Would I be a freak if I somehow "journaled" all that info onto a quilt label?

Kayaker26 04-11-2011 07:38 AM

I really like Cathedral Windows.

lfw045 04-11-2011 07:42 AM

Fushia.....I want a quilt of shades of Fusha with Asian Fabrics included!

gramajo 04-11-2011 07:43 AM

I have the fabric & pattern for Spangled Cabins in red, white & blue. It's a log cabin with stars inside the logs. I've had it for several years, but other quilts always seem to come first.

I've been working on a Sylvia's Bridal Quilt BOM. When I get caught up on that, I plan to get the Spangled Cabins cut--that is, if no more babies appear. I've made 4 baby quilts in the past 8 months.

I would also like a memory quilt using photos but that tain't gonna happen. I'd have too much trouble deciding which photos to use. :D

Pieceful Quilter 04-11-2011 07:44 AM

I have to confess... I have two dogs, both Brittanys. They have the loveliest shades of orangey brown on their spots. Other Brittanys have dark brown or black spots. I collected various shades of those wonderful browns and blacks for about six months. Added a a nice cream to the mix, and made a brown/black and cream log cabin with the intent of donating it to American Brittany Rescue (one of my dogs is a rescue from them.)

I LOVE that quilt top, and I know once I can afford to send it to the long arm quilter, it will be mine forever!! Something else will have to take its place for ABR.

mshawii 04-11-2011 07:45 AM

I would cut and appliqué another Hawaiian quilt. They are quite time consuming so at my age I better get with it soon. Jan

KarenK, what's the name of your lovely avatar?

hopetoquilt 04-11-2011 07:49 AM

A t-shirt quilt with my Children's clothes. I made one with the baby clothes that came out okay (sashing is too wide). Now I am collecting their t-shirts to make another.

g-maquilts 04-11-2011 07:54 AM

I will make a scrap quilt with 30's prints and white on white. Maybe a drunkards path. I love the happy prints and colors of those fabrics. I have made a lot of quilts for myself but someone always likes them and then I give them away Usually to my daughter. She lives next door so I can always "visit" them

huntannette 04-11-2011 08:00 AM

not sure what i would make for myself....but someday, one will just tell me it wants to stay!!

Mariposa 04-11-2011 08:04 AM

I have a Crown of Thorns started, done in purples with pale pinks, turquoise, yellow, etc. Also want to do a Mariner's compass, and one from Bella, Bella Quilts book.

Bill'sBonBon 04-11-2011 08:15 AM

I have made an attic window quilt for myself.. Waiting to do for myself, A kalidascope using Rhonda's Templet's and Directions.. A Blasing Star which I dearly love,Getting my fabrics collected to do both. BillsBonBon

Rose Bagwell 04-11-2011 08:25 AM

It must have purple in it and lots of bright colos, with purple being the main color. Maybe for me, the best would be a Crazy quilt, made to look like broken glass pieces.

Kj05 04-11-2011 08:28 AM

After reading some other posts, I thought of another one that's been in my head for some time. I'm a member of the World Beer Tour at Old Chicago. I have been for some time now and have collected quite a number of shirts for each of their mini tours. So eventually I'd like to make a quilt from some of those shirts because I really don't wear them all.

quiltingb1 04-11-2011 08:54 AM

I would like to make a Baltimore Album, a cathedral window, a double wedding ring, and a double Irish chain for myself. They are all on the "someday" list. Right now I am working on baby quilts for the grandkids and am working on a Grandmother's Flower Garden , 2 civil war era BOM's and an appliqued wallhanging. Then need to make "big kid" quilts as the grandkids move into their big kid beds, and so on and so on. But I love making for everyone else so someday I will get to one of mine.

PolkaBabe 04-11-2011 09:22 AM

That would be an Hawaiian design, color not sure.

Sandra in Minnesota 04-11-2011 09:48 AM

I would love a queen size wedding ring quilt, but I think it is above my ability.
