My husband asked me a few months ago, "How come I was always quilting for everyone else. When was I going to make a quilt for OUR bed?" So that is my next project. I am making a quilt from material bought in Gabon, Africa where we lived and served as missionaries for 21 years. The material is real busy so I am looking for the right pattern to use. I am leaning toward the snowball or something with a big area of one material in the block. Can hardly wait to start on it.

I made myself a top out of the jelly roll 1600. I used batiks called zinfandel (purples). I am going to practice quilting it on my new long arm. Some day I will make a floral quilt, and a landscape quilt, and a OBW, and....and.....and.....

I wanted a sort of "Morrocan" feel to my bedroom and could not find a bedspread that fit what I had in my brain. So, after finding some great pillow shams at the thrift store as my inspiration, I am making a quilt using some really neat fabrics in combinations of burgundy, rust, gold, taupe. Most of these have been thrift store finds or sale items in a drapery outlet; one of a kind items that did not sell or only had 1 left-picked up for pennies. I think it is going to be beautiful-and no one else will have one like it!!!
I have only "started" a quilt for myself once in my life. I just have to finish machine quilting it but I really messed up the quilting when I started it. I did great on the piecing and it is a dresden plate pattern.
Have one in the planning stage with soft florals, lace, embroidery and things I like. Want to finish up on a few other things before I start on it.
A quilt designed by Erica De Jong.I can"t decide which one I like the best.
And the good thing about it is that I do not have more than $30 tied up in my fabric finds for my one of a kind Moroccan quilt!

I have a book of a roses on a white background. The roses are shades of pink and light and dark leaves. I would just love to see it on my bed.So my hubby could at least say , " I've given a bed of roses to sleep on." LOL

A kind sized, double sided batiks, made with all of the luscious colors....one side would be a star-within-a star-within-a-star pattern that I've had for years----and made a small one of, but never quilted since it was one of my first and the seams all didn't match....yep, just about every one was off. The other side would be the Lone Star of my dreams....a Log Cabin Lone Star (each diamond is made like a log cabin block then all are set together line a Lone Star.) Unfortunately, I don't have the skills for either! :)
My dream quilt would be a bargello !!!
my brain is not equip to make something like that ! but they are gorgeous !! |
A Double Wedding Ring with red in it. Queensize
If I could only make ONE for myself I would just throw my hands up in the air! There are way too many I want and could never settle on one pattern. The more the merrier!!
A hand appliqued Baltimore Album from batiks would be my 'dream quilt' as I know I'll never make one for two reasons.
First of all my arthritis means I could never do this for myself. Second, my lack of patience means I'd probably never do it because it would take too long. (At least I'm honest!) Peggy in Sizzling Fla (where we've broken record highs 3 days in a row) |
I've made a few 'just for me's' but they end up being some one elses but I WILL make me 2 one for the living room =log cabin and the second =bargello for my bed and I will hide them when company comes Hey a girl has to have a plan
I would definately make a landscape. of my birthplace, Kentucky
I was in the Marine Corps also. I am over one third of the way on my quilt for MY bed. It will have 143 six inch blocks. Each block will be different but with some repetition of fabrics. My tribute to the Marine Corps will be a block with the slogan: Semper Fi.

Double wedding ring for me!!!!

An appliqued floral quilt.

Definitely with Hawaiian fabrics and tropical fish prints.

Dear Jane done in butter yellows, peaches. In this fantasy it is quilted also, not just a top.

I would make myself a log cabin pattern with a Moose in the middle. I love the rustic look.
I just made one for myself and its all shades of pink and lots of pink prints.Tessalating Stars is the pattern. I also made myDH one all in blues.
I have enjoyed reading everyone's answers. It definitely is a good topic! I go for classic quilts myself! It is hard to pick one pattern, but I definitely like cool colors!
Every quilt I make I make for myself in as much as I just love MAKING quilts!! I get just as much out of making a quilt for someone else as for me. I do have several quilts and wall hangings for my home and will make tons more for me and others!! I eat , sleep, walk, talk and dream quilts!!!
Blue and white feathered star...actually I would love to make a TRIPLE feathered star. I think I'm saving that for when the last kid leaves for college!
A floral hand appliqued quilt all with hand dyed silks.
Well you said Dream! lol |
I am making one for myself now. French braid style with a rainbow of colors. I will post a picture when I finish it.

well, Roy Rogers was my hero, and I have several yards of Western, horse, and RRogers fabric. So I would love a Quilt made of these fabrics. They are Browns, tans, reds and Blues. pattern, I really dont know yet.
I need to make one for our bedroom but can't decide on a design. I keep seeing too many here that I like
It would be a toss-up between a floral log cabin or something batik. Someday...
A log cabin maybe scrappy or braid quilt
Tiny grandmothers flower garden or Dresdin....maybe BOTH!!!
Mine would be a Log cabin in either autumn colors or batiks...

I've made a few for myself but still have a list of quilts that could potentially be my favorite!
