what kind of Quilting magazines do you all get? what are your favorites? what would you suggest for a beginner quilter?
|
I'd suggest a basic how to book. You can find them used or from Amazon....or any bookstore. Why not borrow a couple from your library? A lot of ppl like Fons & Porters beginner book
You can ask any question on here & find a lot of help. I like a book with clear pictures that "show" exactly what is meant. I think Quilt mag shows projects for beginners. Good luck. PS...here's another thread that might help. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-58838-1.htm

Quick Quilts is my favorite for simple designs that are beautiful and losts of info for new quilter (and even experienced ones that tend to forget!) I've actually been cutting back on my magazines because I found that there are so few new ideas, I keep looking thru my old ones for inspiration and loook on-line for ideas and free patterns. In spite of cutting back, I still get the QQ subscription!
Instead of spending money on subscriptions right away, check out magazines at the library to see what helps you (for free) or buy used magazines to look thru. My caution when buying old magazines - purchase the ones from the past few years which have the newer techniques. Really old ones have great patterns, but the techniques used are old also...no strip quilting tips in really old magzines...no tips on use of rotary cutters, etc. |

I don't subscribe to any although there was a "sign a friend up for free" subscription offered on here a few weeks ago and I was the lucky 'first pm-er' and got it.
Mostly I watch garage sales, thrift stores, small town libraries, and estate sales for them. |
When I started quilting I bought a baby quilt book at JAs. Fast projects. Great instructions. Even had speed piecing tech.
Title is: Quilts for Baby, Easy as ABC by Ursula Golisz Reikes. Use your 40% coupon! Plan to give it to friend for Christmas cuz she's collection "stuff" to start quilting after the holidays. |
I have stopped all my magazines but Quilters World. I do like that one, such a variety of things in it.
|
I get lots but really enjoy the Quick quilts mag. Lots of fun ideas.

My favorite magazine is Quilters World 1 because you can have a digital copy and 2 the quilts are beautiful and they have instructions that you can follow even for a beginer.

I would suggest the digital magazine quiltersworld no hassle and you get 2 years of back issues with you subscription .
