Every one of my quilts, be it for home or as a gift, is made to be used on a bed, for a baby, or in the living room to snuggle under. NOT to be put away on the shelf as a keepsake. Hope they are all loved and used till they need replaced
|
1. Fun
2. I donate many of my quilts to helpful organizations 3. A specific purpose such as a gift for someone I know, my own home or, or, I guess that is it. |
The quilts I make are to be used. I have fun making my quilts... and they are all made with love... love of fabric, love of color, love of what I'm creating, love for who it's for.
|
I make them for all reasons. I give them as gifts (sometimes to myself), my applique quilts usually go into shows and then are earmarked for the kids when I pass on to the next life. I just enjoy the process and the end result so to me it does not matter what it is for, I just like doing it.
|
Lets me make one of a kind gifts for family and friends. Also for creativity, relaxations and fun.
|
Mine are mostly made with someone in mind. I have given quilts to almost all my neices and nephews, their kids, plus the ones I make for charity thru our Quilt Guild.
Then of course I just love to put the quit together, I love to try out new patterns, do my own thing with scraps, keeps me sane . |
It is an excuse to play with brightly colored fabric instead of crayons. It is a mental exercise in creativity and patience to keep my mind active because I get bored easily. It is to pay homage to my grandmother and the quilts I lied under when I was a child. It is about being able to make a 3D object that is useful as opposed to one that is purely decorative such as my cross-stitch pictures. I've never considered myself an artist so it isn't about quilts as art. This is a great thread!
|
All go to my Family, love making them things and they love the special touch from Mom or Sis or Auntie.
|
Quilting takes me "out of this world" and away from responsibilities and "have tos". It's soothing, comforting, and calming. I love everything about quilting...

Mine are made for everyday use. I also display quilts around the house. It is relaxing (most of the time) and it is a good feeling of accomplishment.
|
yep, for all those reasons.

They're made for everyday use by the family and the reason for doing it is simple. I love to sew.

For all the reasons. Did enter one in the county fair...stitching was "suburb" but the binding was "too large for the size of the quilt". It was all hand done and took second place because of the binding. Now my grandson has to have it on his bed when he sleeps at G'ma. That's "blue ribbon" enough for me. Most are give away to BE USED.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever...joy is good.

I do it for fun, the creative outlet, making things for loved ones who don't care if it has a boo boo in it, and to share time with my DGD.......
|
For me it's a creative outlet. Being able to make someone happy with a quilt is a big plus.
|
I do quilting like I do all things, because I want something to do and I want them to be used. Isn't that the purpose of them? As far as shows well never thought about doing one for that reason even though some say I should. I don't want the pressure because that takes the fun out of it. Yes I try to make "perfect " seams and try to do "perfect" blocks but when it comes right down to it, they aren't but they are good enough.
I'm happy and usually the person receiving the quilt is happy, end results, everyone get a little enjoyment out of my work. |

I have had some in shows.. even won two ribbons, but mostly I make quilts to give to my family, and to use.. I've said they will the thing I have that my kids will remember me by.. I hope they go for generations. I make quilts because they are beautiful.. they keep my hands and my mind busy.. they keep me moving on.. and they are wonderful to cuddle under. My grandkids love to cuddle up on my couch with a quilt and a cup of tea.. They are creative enough to satisify my need to make something beutiful.. they are a gift to me and to those I give them to... I also do chairty quilts because everyone should have a wonderful quilt to wrap up in..
|
keeps me in the flow/zone its like meditating
|
I just enjoy it.
I have made a few lap quilts as gifts as well as a tablerunner here or there but my main deal is I just enjoy it. I doubt I will ever be IN a quilt show but I sure do enjoy going to those as well. This year I've gotten involved with a group at my church who quilts and sews for those in need - cancer patients, soldiers, babies, etc.... I enjoy just doing for others. |
I think for me it's a mixture of many different mediums expressed in love. I do not do shows. It's also art, The joy of seeing something so plain before you started come to life under your finger tips. The joy of giving which brings smiles to the receiver

Compulsion.

Mine would never make it to a show but my kids and grandkids love them and I love to make them. That's what is important to me.

I quilt because it's fun and I put a lot of love into the sewing and creative part of it. I also say a prayer over the quilt, that the person who sleeps under this quilt will know the Great Spirit that is greater than us. I'm not getting preachy but that's what I do.

Making quilts is the best therapy I've found. It keeps me sane and grounded," I tell my husband when he asks, "What are we going to do with another quilt?"
I also like the fact that it is a challenge and it keeps me thinking, creating, and learning. |
I just love making quilts. I gave lots of them to my friends at Christmas time and some said "You're kidding, right?" They loved them. Now I need to make more to give to more of my friends.
|
all of the above!
|
Sometimes just for fun or because the pattern interests me, sometimes for someone...I haven't ever made any for shows. I like mine to be used and appreciated and well-loved.
|
The love of doing and the love of the receiver and the look in their eyes say it all. I've given many away and don't see who they go to but I know they will be warm in body and hopefully in heart. Use them don't store them ...please.
Made some cuddlers for the local hospital Nicu and the nurses asked if I made small quilts for the babies. Needless to say, next day I was back with some. Smiles all around! |
I have several reasons for piecing blocks.
I am relearning to use an injured hand. I am doing something in that therapy which will result in a finished project. I love texture/color/design--I can't seem to follow any instructions for a pattern. I take an idea and personalize it. I also make "Prayer Quilts" for a ministry in my community. What a wonderful way to give. |

I have been quilting about 25 years and I have one king quilt and two lap quilts. All the rest have been given as special occasion
gifts or "long-distance hugs." Sewing and quilting are my happiness and reason for getting up in the morning. My husband and I each have huge families...someone is always getting married or having a baby, so it keeps me busy. |
