It satisfies my creative streak.

Lee Ann where did you get that rooster pattern if I might ask.

I make quilts because I love all of the process and to use up my large amount of fabrics. Of course, I must stop buying more. I always try to find someone that I think needs a quilt. No way could I find room to store all of them.

cjaye44 02-05-2011 03:49 PM

It's a form of therapy for me. I can be completely stressed out but some form of quiltmaking....whether it be piecing, applique or hand quilting really relaxes me. And I have something to show for it later. A win win situation!!

LMB 02-05-2011 03:56 PM

Mostly I quilt for family and friends. I have only done maybe 30 or so over the years... but now I have a huge stach of fabrics and am looking to learn more. This was an interesting question and I am glad you asked it. I learn a little more each time I read the answers to all these questions.

Ditto there is nothing like the pleasure of knowing that a quilt i gift will be used and loved for years to come and when I see a person using it I cant explain it how it makes me feel.

lheizen 02-05-2011 04:04 PM

to be used and loved my first quilt I made was for my
daughter I am still a new bee so as far as the show that's this big league and have no desire to compete

Tinker Tots 02-05-2011 04:07 PM

No show for me. I see my mistakes all the time, but everyone else who doesn't quilt doesn't see them, so I am happy. They are for everyday use. People say: I want one, and when I tell them I have $65.00 in material, and 23 hours of labor, and how do you put a price on that. They shy away. My quilts are all in my house. For family so far. I have made about 8, and have stepped out of the box of blocks and am starting my first one with triangles, shoo fly pattern. It has been fun. I want to learn to stipple, all I have ever done is in the ditch..&.rag quilt. How do you start to learn to stipple, 1st step?

Oh, good luck Renee! I love to see people just getting started in quilting! It opens a whole new world, and you will love every minute of it. BTW, I LOVE your signature line!

hollyberry 02-05-2011 04:11 PM

Mine are made for daily use. I have only shown two of my quilts in our guild's local quilt show.

sewingsuz 02-05-2011 04:13 PM

just because it's fun and I sew products to sell also so I have a lot of scraps from purses baby and adults bibs aprons and much more. I use up my scraps for quilts. I love it.

jitkaau 02-05-2011 04:29 PM

Fun.

Quiltaddict 02-05-2011 04:30 PM

To be used, some for charity, some for home use. And because I love the creative process and seeing all those little cut up pieces of fabric slowing become something beautiful, or fun, or crazy.

whitediamond00 02-05-2011 04:48 PM

All of my quilts have been for family so far. Some day I'll make one for myself. It gives me great pleasure to see how much they like them and appreciate my efforts.

dmackey 02-05-2011 04:51 PM

It feeds my creative side, allows me to give something of value for charities, and those in the family who want one love getting a quilt with their focus fabrics and styles.

My quilts are meant to be used and loved.

Diane

Fun!

yellowsnow55 02-05-2011 04:59 PM

For fun, relaxation, sanity, daily use, decoration, gifts, charities, but mainly because I love the feel of natural fibers. Not into shows or competitions. Have had my avatar in a fiber arts exhibition, a friend was organizing.

bels 02-05-2011 05:00 PM

I like sewing and having a sense of accomplishment.

Debbie B 02-05-2011 05:04 PM

I don't think I'll ever be good enough for show, but when I make a quilt it is usually to give away. I hope that they'll like it & use it.

Julianna 02-05-2011 05:04 PM

To answer your questions: YES

vezzetti 02-05-2011 05:05 PM

Most of my quilts are for my kids, grand-kids and great-grand kids. Sometimes I pray for the person for whom I am making the quilt. My favorite pattern is Log Cabin, but I don't allow myself to make them often. I'm trying to do new things and learn with every quilt. I enter some of them in our litle county fair, and if they win a riibbon, that goes with the quilt to please the recipient. I attend two weekly quilt groups and love the friends I make there. I donate a few quilts. Last year, gave two to our local Hospice, and some baby quilts to needy Mom's. But honestly, I love piecing quilts, changing patterns and colors, just enjoy the process, and like to think that after I am gone, I will be lovingly remembered, each time someone crawls uder one of the quilts I have made.

Barbie 02-05-2011 05:09 PM

Quilts are one of my creative outlets. I keep most of them for use in my home. Years ago, I decided that I would not give hand made gifts. Most people I know do not appreciate the time, effort, love and money that goes into making such gifts. I made a baby gift for my grandson that took me 2 years to applique and quilt by hand. Years later, I discovered that his mother gave it to a friend because the friend wanted it for her child. I was deeply hurt. My grandson (age 16) now lives with me, and I made him his own quilt which he treasures. Gifts of handmade items, from me, are so rare, they receptinet feels so special to receive one.

EdieClay 02-05-2011 05:15 PM

My quilts are made to be used and loved to death.

DeeBooper 02-05-2011 05:16 PM

I make quilts so I can spend as much time as possible with my mom and my aunt or whoever comes to sew with me...it is sooo much fun to get together!

Rusty's Mama 02-05-2011 05:19 PM

I make a lot of charity quilts. I have the joy of making them, giving them and then promptly forget them once they are gone! My pleasure is in the quilting. I make quilts for family and friends. Quilting is really my therapy!

GrandmaAva 02-05-2011 05:20 PM

All of the above ! ! !

Christine27 02-05-2011 05:30 PM

I make quilts because I like them. The quilts that I've given away as gifts may one day line the dog's bed, but I'm okay with that. If I ever enter a quilt in a show or the local county fair, I fully expect my quilt to be the one receiving comments like, "Really, don't you wonder why some people bother?"

DITTO!!

Jeananne 02-05-2011 05:37 PM

To be used! I always hope people that I give a quilt to uses it....that's my intention, growing up, there was never anything better than climbing under a well used quilt!

ajohn52 02-05-2011 05:39 PM

Usually I make them for someone else to use. Or a wall hanging, or for me. I too feel my quilts not good enough to be put into shows.

mmb195152 02-05-2011 05:42 PM

The quilt that I made for my new Grandson being adopted from Ethiopia was the most useful and favorite one I have made. It contained pictures of all his new family members, who he got to know on his way to his new home, as well to cuddle in to on the long plane ride. We also used it to help him learn English. Probably not the most beautiful, but probably the most functional one I've ever made. Mary

This is exactly the kind of info I treasure .... I hope one day to overcome the ability to make hard work out of that which should bring pleasure

Therapy - isn't that enough? lol...

sharoney 02-05-2011 05:59 PM

My quilts are made to be used; some by DH and I; many are given away. And some are for decoration. Quilting for me is "happy time." I can just zone out.

I quilt for two reasons.......#1 for the love of creating something beautiful and #2 for the joy it brings me to give one to someone special. I make many comfort quilts for cancer patients and for others in need of a warm hug :)
