I have the machine for a week now and really love it. BUT the footpedal feels like a toy compared to my Bernina.......
I have shoesize 5 1/2 sew barefoot and hardly can get used to this small lightweight thing. How about you? Maybe I contact Janome and ask whether a big heavy one is available!? Granny guess which one is from the Bernina |
Looks just like the one on my 6600. Nothing wrong with them- just different!
|
That's the one I had on my old Janome and loved it. I think you just have to give it a chance and get used to it. :-)
|
That's the same one I have on my various Janomes, it does move around quite a bit too. You get used to it after a while.

I have the same one on my Janome6600. Janome is notorious for their
"lovely" foot pedals. Never had a Bernina so I don't know what I'm missing. What I don't like about the pedal is that I have to keep chasing it. I put a silicone potholder underneath but it still escapes. Oh well. |
Yea, it's the same one as used with the Janome 11000 as well, I don't think you can get a different one though. I'm used to chasing it all around anyway.

Same one I have with the 6600.
Now I can't remember if it's my Janome I do this with or my Husqvarna ... but one of them works better if I turn it around and use the back of the pedal. I tend to use foot pedals with toes only, not my whole foot. And yes, I always sew barefoot. |
Looks like the one for my big Elna, but I don't have a problem with it slipping, unfortunately I have carpet in my sewing room and I have about a 2" piece of the stiff part of sticky velcro and it doesn't go anyway, only problem is moving it. LOL
|
For folks having trouble with slipping foot pedals, I have a neez-ez foot pedal holder that I bought from Nancy's Notions years ago. It works pretty well in holding the foot pedal where I need it and it relieves the stress on your knee.

mine is small like that. just have trouble with it moving. well i did until i put one strip of velcro on the bottom. now it sticks to the flat carpet i have in my room.
|
Is there any differenz between the brands besides the size of the plug? Or in other words, wouldn`t it be possible to put on a Bernina foot a Janome plug??
Granny |
Maybe I am doing something I shouldn't, I have a Janome 6600 and was constantly chasing the foot petal - so I turned it over and use it upside down. My floor is carpet and it stopped the sliding all over the place. But I prefer to use the button on the machine.
|
Every machine has its quirks. I bounce around between my Janome, White, Bernina and Singers and each one has it's differences you learn to live with. All the different foot pedals haven't affected my work, so that's what matters. That's part of the fun of sewing on different machines:>
|
that is what I have on my Elna...I have a size 9.5 foot, so yes it is tiny, but I have vintage machines that have way smaller foot pedals!
and trust me, you do not want to pay for a replacement foot... |

If you are having trouble with the pedal moving, put a length of self stick velcro - the loop part - on the base of the pedal if you are sewing on a carpeted floor. On a wooded floor place a carpet mat underneath the velcro grips the carpet. It works for me. All Janome pedals are the same size and you will get used to it.

My Janome 8000 is the same..I used a idea on here a rug that goes around your toliet..with rubber backing have laminate flooring and chased Forever.. tried the velcro..turning pedal over ect Put the pedal in the hole that goes around base of potty and Eureka stays put...give this a try
|
Funny, I have the opposite situation. The footpedal on my Pfaff is lightweight & small & the one on my Janome 1600P is a big heavyweight one!
|
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I simply dont understand that such a heavy machine is coming with a toy footpedal. My Janome Cover has a much heavier pedal (of course it does not fit the Horizon....) and it happens to be the exact same my Babylock Overlock has?? Will see what my dealer answers and I will let you know. Granny |
I use the push buttons.
|
I've read that many Horizon owners flip them over. There's a very active, helpful yahoo group for the Janome Horizon.
|
Got an answer from my dealer: put velcro on the floor....
I will contact Janome. As most machines these days are manufactured in asia (most probably in the same plant) there must be a working pedal from another brand!? And maybe if enough customers get to them they might come up with a new one..........like the 1/4" foot  Granny |

I have the 6600, and love it. I don't use the footpedal though, learn to use the stop and start, you will be so glad you did!!
|
I use the non skid rubberized stuff that you use under scatter rugs to keep them from slipping.

About three years ago I took a class for free motion embroidery. The instructor had the class to use their left foot on the footpedal. She said this would cause us to be using the creative side of our brain. Anyway, I found that by
using the left foot I was not putting so much pressure on the footpedal and now with my Janome Horizon I find that the smaller pedal is taking some of the stress off my knee. It does move around some because of the light weight. I have heard of women going to their car and getting a floor mat to set the pedal on and that it works very well. |

Regarding the chase of the foot pedal many are speaking of. I had the same problem with my Janome 6600 before I bought a small piece of rubber matting (flooring dept) in Home Depot. It stopped the little thing in its tracks.
|
I have the Horizon and use one of those rubbery computer mousepads under mine. Same size Janome has had for years with their machines, guess you are just too used to that Bernina. Nice to hear that a Bernina user really is loving the Horizon!! That will encourage others who cannot afford the higher priced machines.
|
Looks like my Janome foot pedal as well. It is just small! It didn't take long for me to get use to it.
|
I have one just like it and never even thought about the size. I have chased it around however. Velcro works on carpet to keep it from slipping and you can find non slip discs that go on furniture to keep it from slipping on a wood floor.
|
Thanks for this tip. I just added it to my Amazon wish list so I should be getting it for Christmas.

I have two Janomes and have never used the foot pedal on either of them. I use the start/stop button. So much easier for me. You adjust your speed with the slider, so you go as fast or as slow as you need to. That's one of the best features of Janome, in my opinion.
|
Well isn't it just the cutest little thing. LOL It does take awhile to get used to. I purchased a foot rest from Nancy's Notions as it serves 2 purposes. 1, pedal doesn't move around and 2, I seem to have better pressure control (does that make sense ?). How about attaching a piece of thick plexiglass cut larger then the top of pedal. That will give you a bigger contact area. I did this on a foot pedal and it works great. I glued that rubber shelf liner on top of the plexiglass and the traction was just perfect. If I can get to the storage shed I will get it out and post pics. Just my thoughts on the matter.

The Bernina foot pedal is the one on the right, the larger/heavier one. I know, I have two Berninas. I too, fuss with these other brand foot pedals as they as so light and flimsy-ish. My old Singer has a nice heavyweight pedal, too. My Baby Lock is lightweight, but if I can get it to stay put, at least it does work. We're just used to quality materials and workmanship.
