Mine has corn in it - the kind that is dried - looks like you would get it at a wild bird feed store - or a farm supply store. Smells really good when heated up.

We, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, (Mormons) often store wheat. If you know anyone who is LDS they would know where to get wheat or they could find out quite easily. Many of our people might even be willing to sell you some if it is time for them to get their wheat used up so they can buy some fresh wheat.

My friend made me one, She used denim from the legs of old worn out jeans and since she had a farm, she used corn. I love it, works great, can either be used hot or cold

A friend of mine has one filled with dried beans - you know the kind that you cook in a pot - pinto beans, red beans, Great Northern beans - guess any kind would work.

You can find more info by typing rice bags in search at top of page.
Buying the filler, rice, beans etc might be cheaper yet if you have a store that sells in bulk.

I have made them for years! I do the outer bag as well. When you use them on the body, you should use a towel to wrop them in, moist heat is good and it keeps from burning your skin a little better.

I use flax seeds to fill my bags. I do make a liner, so can wash outer fabric when needed. These are simple to do, and make great gifts!

Do you just use cotton fabric and fill with dry rice?

I am wondering if you could make them to fit under dishes when you serve buffet style so the food will stay hot?

Has anyone made them?? If so, how long do you heat them up in microwave??

Lots of questions here :)

I've never used them to keep food warm, but I do have a couple for my hands (I bought them). It's easy to decide how hot---whatever your hands can stand. Keeping food warm is yet another story.

I will urge you to put them in a zip lock bag if not too hot. Remember you can't wash them.

Again, it's a differernt story, but I wear gloves inside my hand warmers to keep them as clean as possible.
