Good Morning~! I have the Tri-Sharp Dual Rotary Blade Sharpener - "sharpens 45 mm rotary cutter blades. I use them on what is left over of my old blades and also the Harbor Freight blades. My mother gave this to me and she used it for quite a while. The price tag is still on it - $15.79. Works for me! Haven't bought blades for a long time! Edie

Thanks. I am starting a small home business and will be doing a lot of cutting. I have arthritic thumbs so the rotary cutters are a godsend.

If you are going to be going through many blades, you can get a package of 2 blades for $1.99 ($1.49 on sale) from Harbor Freight. They are in the carpet cutting section, called carpet blades. They fit in a standard 45cm cutter, and are just as sharp. That will save heaps instead of buying brand named blades at a LQS. You can buy them on-line from Harbour freight if there is none near you, but the shipping will be just as expensive as the blades so I would buy up. They might still be on sale for $1.49 per 2/pk. They were last week.

I was at Harbor Freight in W. St. Paul last Monday and they are still $1.49 pack, plus a coupon for 20% off, plus a coupon for a free scissors. Haven't tried the scissors yet, looks like you could cut down a tree or a chicken leg with that one! Edie

They can be sharpened. I bought my sharpener at Hobby Lobby . Very cheap. Sharpens really good and I haven't bought a new blade in like 2 years. I say get a sharpener.

# 1 for a long lasting blade is a good mat the green ones are more expensive but the blades they save are worth it then keep your blades clean as a lot of lint builds up in the back of them after I clen them I drop a small drop of oil on them and my blades last a long time I do use the Olfa blades

I haven't found a sharpener that will work. I was very disappointed and out more more money than I could afford when I bought mine. However, that was several years ago, and there may be a better one now. Maybe someone on the board can tell us. froggyintexas

I've flipped mine over and gained a few more hours.

I just won a 6.5" square cutting ruler @ the Fort Worth Quilt Show! It has a sharpening blade on one side. I am not sure if it works or not. I have only used it once. I am using an old blade with it just to be sure that it doesn't actually ruin my good blades. I will be sure to let the Board know how it goes. It is by Sullivans. It is called "the Cutting Edge". See it at...

I use A-foil to sharpen blades. lay the foil on rotary mat and cut foil over and over again with rotary cutter.

I was horrified by the price of Olfa blades at Joanns, even on sale. How can this be justified?
