What do you think?

Homespun 06-14-2017 04:50 AM

I like how the sashing makes each block stand out.

earthwalker 06-14-2017 04:52 AM

I like it both ways, but no sashing, then maybe a border of white, then a thin border of black another of white and a black binding. But any way you choose will be beautiful. Lovely blocks.

ruthrings 06-14-2017 04:53 AM

Wow! What's cool is that you can't go wrong! I agree that the sashing makes each block stand out, but on the other hand, I love the secondary pattern formed when the blocks meet. Toss a coin!

nativetexan 06-14-2017 04:53 AM

I honestly think with out sashing. the white is the background and they will float beautifully.

Ditto.......................

popover 06-14-2017 04:59 AM

I prefer the no sashing with the secondary pattern giving a place to show off some quilting.

lillybeck 06-14-2017 05:21 AM

Definitely stashing\

QuiltnNan 06-14-2017 05:21 AM

i vote for the sashing because I like the individual blocks. But the secondary pattern by using no sashing would also be attractive

twinkie 06-14-2017 05:33 AM

I feel the sashing sets off each block.

minibarn 06-14-2017 05:33 AM

Well, I like them both. That block pattern is very neat. Please post pics when you get it completed.

gramajo 06-14-2017 05:51 AM

I prefer it with sashing. It shows off each beautiful block.

QM 06-14-2017 06:02 AM

IMHO, the issue is what sort of quilting do you want to do. Unsashed, you have a lovely space for focused quilting, such as a floral motif. (or space for embroidery or applique). If you don't want to do those, sashed is probably a better idea.

I agree. I'd go with the sashing, because I like the dramatic look of the black, but without sashing looks great, too.

threadedsister 06-14-2017 06:14 AM

Sashing

I think sashing would be the best choice

I agree with many so far who have posed the question of how you want to quilt this. I'll add by asking if your seams will butt appropriately or are they all headed in the same direction. If you can't rotate the blocks so that all seams butt, then I'd add the sashing. Your quilt will look great either way, just depends on a few things and what look you're going for. Are you hoping to have your piecing stand out or the quilting?

Jordan 06-14-2017 06:56 AM

Very nice blocks by the way. I think I prefer the sashing as it makes each block individually visual. Also like the no sashing picture so I don't think you can go wrong either way. Anxious to see what you decide. Please share your finish.

I agree the floating look would be best ..... which to me means, a white sashing would be in order!
Otherwise, the points on each block will be meeting up, and you somewhat lose the float.

With a white sashing, I would use a SIAS for a cornerstone, so that the centre square would be set on point and the outside would be in the same white. Because of the assortment of fabric choices for the main blocks, I would consider whether to use the same scheme of the SIAS centres or to pick one and use it for each of the centres.

Likewise, I would finish with the same outside sashing for the blocks, before deciding on how to finish it up with borders, or not, or what type!

If you are really wanting to use the black sashing (or any other colour), you will have the same effect with the points touching against the black. I would still prefer a white border first, in order to let those blocks float within the black.

Of course, all are IMHO ........... what you have looks great! I really like the warmth of the scrappy colours on the crisp white background.

dunster 06-14-2017 07:45 AM

I like the secondary pattern, so I would probably vote for no sashing. But I also like the dramatic look with the black sashing, so I might change my vote. Glad to be of help. :)

Kitsie 06-14-2017 07:52 AM

I agree with white sashing. Nice looking quilt pattern!

MadQuilter 06-14-2017 08:28 AM

This is an interesting one. To me, the one without the sashing reads really dark. Even though the one with sashing adds more dark fabric, the blocks really pop and all the color shows more. So I vote for sashing, but either is pretty.

RedGarnet222 06-14-2017 08:56 AM

I think a white sashing with a design where they meet. You would put a colored triangle on each white strip end and a colored square for a cornerstone then it would form a small friendship star when they were sewn all together.

slstitcher 06-14-2017 09:34 AM

like the black sashing

bearisgray 06-14-2017 09:39 AM

I like them both.

Take pictures of them both, tack them on your design board, close your eyes, and throw a dart at them?

I think I like it better with the sashing.

joyce blint 06-14-2017 09:49 AM

Definitely sashing.

Boston1954 06-14-2017 10:41 AM

I vote for sashing. It makes a statement.

Jennifer23 06-14-2017 01:21 PM

I like it without sashing - I like the secondary pattern created by the white coming together. Either way it will be beautiful!

mrs. fitz 06-14-2017 01:34 PM

Surprising myself, no sashing.

jokir44 06-14-2017 02:34 PM

I am in the NO SASHING camp. I like the unity instead of the 20 separated sashed blocks.

osewme 06-14-2017 02:39 PM

If I were making it I would use the sashing. That's going to be beautiful which ever way you go with it.

catsden 06-14-2017 03:41 PM

I like the sashing.

busy fingers 06-14-2017 03:59 PM

I will go with the sashing camp. To me it seems to highlight each block.

Nice work.

Jingle 06-14-2017 09:36 PM

Its up to you. I think it will be beautiful either way.

paoberle 06-15-2017 02:12 AM

The black sashing makes your blocks pop.

Sassylass 06-15-2017 02:15 AM

Sashing....makes the blocks pop!!

ube quilting 06-15-2017 02:22 AM

The secondary pattern in the background is so pretty and the sashing stops the flow of the whole quilt and interrupts the unity. It really depends on the look you want. With the sashing each block is highlighted individually like a picture show. No sashing on this one if it were my project.

sval 06-15-2017 02:44 AM

If you can't decide go with sashing. You won't have to match all those points that way.

illinois 06-15-2017 03:25 AM

I like it without the sashing. I see the colors of the piecing better. The black sashing competes. LIke others, I'd consider white if I used sashing.

How big do you want your finished product to be--if that's a consideration? And then how accurate are your blocks so that the points on the design will meet? These are factors that would influence my decision if it were mine.

ka9sdn 06-15-2017 03:31 AM

Well you have a lot of opinions here and I agree with all of them. Myself, I would use the black, I like the block look!

This was exactly what I thought. If you want to show off some quilting in those white spaces, go without sashings. If not, then the sashing gets my vote.
